Ooh yes! This is what I am waiting for! Is it true that captains chairs are no longer in vogue? Seems like all dining chairs on photos are exactly the same, either all armless, or all armchairs. The Aster Table from CB2 is very sculptural!
Hi Julie, I have antique Arts and Crafts quarter sawn oak round table. It has 2 leaves, which makes it oval-shaped. I've paired it with Pottery Barn upholstery chairs, and I love it. I have an open floor plan, so it works well between the kitchen and living area.
I recently was able to find a vintage Ikea table I have loved since my kids were little, back in 1998. It's solid beechwood and took my husband and son to move it. This was when Ikea still made alot of real wood furniture. I got the kronvik table and four chairs with the Risom woven parachute strap style. A few weeks ago I found two more of the chairs. I didn't want matching chairs but for now I am going to keep them. Thank you SO much for your informative videos. You are a gem! 🤗🥰🥰🥰🥰
I love these videos where you show us things that are quality and show us where to get it. PLEASE do one on chest of drawers or bureaus! Thank you! Kathy
Hi Julie! I have an oval dining table French country Ethan Allen. 20 years old. I just liked the look when I bought it. Now I appreciate the rounded edges. When I have work done in my home I always ask for smooth corners no sharp edges. You are smart to think of safety when you have little ones. But the thing that is not good about this Ethan Allen table is the legs go to the edges. This ruins the seating capacity at the edges. Your samples show the pedestals or a more centered base allowing more people to sit at the table. This is smart design by the furniture makers. I like your new do! You look terrific! See you soon! Margaret
Great vlog Julie. The measurements to be aware of are so helpful. We had a bespoke polished concrete table made for our open plan dining area in 2018. It’s 3 metres in length and about 1.5 m wide and seats 12 comfortably. We love it as it’s so practical and easy to keep clean. The legs are made of raw steel so it has a real industrial look but also the patina is beautiful at the same time. I would also add that the reason we chose this material is that the dining area is at the back of the house and get sun all day from the south facing garden. There is also a glass lantern above it so you need to make sure you choose a material that will be resistant to heat and sunlight in this case. Look forward to your next vlog.😊
i have glass round table. got 1932 chairs and gave away gateleg table. love chairs that fit under glass top perfect. small open room. so i loved your round tables ❤
Such beautiful pieces. Loved them all! I have owned so many tables over the years. But I’m currently planning my forever home and so I knew that I needed my “forever dining table.” And I found it! It’s a gorgeous ornate antique (c1880) walnut English dining table. I also found a set of walnut fiddleback chairs, complete with carvers, from the 40’s with their beautiful original upholstery that go well, without matching exactly. These will go beautifully in my new transitional space and I love them so much.
Hi, Im new to your channel, Your information has helped me to see my space in a new way. We just moved and Ive been having a hard time arranging our furniture! So thank you for what you are doing! Have a blessed day!
Awesome! I love to hear that! Definitely check out my Dream Space series- I detail the exact steps I share with my clients when designing their homes 💖
Thank you and your team for finding so many options to share with your subscribers. I'm so happy with my MCM extendable teak table that was gathering dust in my friend's basement. It will seat 4 to 12 people and the wood is so warm. I'm holding on to it but enjoyed seeing all the beautiful tables in this video. As usual, you are so thorough, Julie. Thanks!
Oh Julie! Your Vlog could not have come at a better time! I’ve been breaking my head over what type of round table to put in my kitchen area and have seen literally dozens. Any chance you could give me advice? 🙏🙏
I have 2 great tables that may need an update but I really think I just need new chairs. Looking for your chair roundup. I just stumbled upon you. So thrilled I did.
some of these tables did not impress me, until theyre seen with the chairs-- then they come alive! my tabletop needed help, so i went to a tile business and asked if i could go through their castaways and mismatches. i found a bunch of tumbled marble tiles that i just laid across the top of the table... not anchored permanently, just placed on the top. totally changed the look of the table, and ppl love it.
That’s the thing about design… it’s all about the combinations! When you start to dissect incredibly designed spaces, you will see some basic pieces paired with more statement-making styles. That’s how you build a visual hierarchy in space 😍
Julie, love your videos. Can you do video on how to design dining room with sofa? Love your dining room. Can sofa be longer than table? How far sofa should be from dining table? Thank you so much.
My sofa is backed up against the wall. You need enough distance from table to sofa so guests can get in and out with ease. Mine is tight because I don’t like to push the table back in once ppl are seated- start with 3” overhang (table over sofa seat) and go from there
I am about to jump in turn my family room to my new dining room, it’s going to be a big project to me😅 and you just come up with this video that’s amazing 🎉
Julie, these furniture videos are very informative for those of us shopping for new pieces. Can't wait to see what you say about chairs as I have some upholstered ones on order. Would you please comment about the types of wood currently being used to manufacturer many case goods nowadays. In particular, rubberwood, mango wood and the like. Much appreciated !
So helpful, thank you! I like oval tables. I found finding the right chairs difficult, but settled for mismatched, like all four different from eachother but same material and colour. The style through the house is sort of coastal bohemian or something. Nice hair do in this video!
Incredibly useful video! Thank you Julie! Sorrento is my favorite. Can't wait to see the dining chair video. I've done some shopping but find many of the prettier chairs are uncomfortable.
Great information! Thank you for sharing! I like the Cheatwood round table and pottery barn square marble table. Also James and James has some pretty tables. The Liberty Harvest Gathering chalkboard trestle table and chairs as well as the River trestle table and chairs are pretty. Living spaces, Crate and Barrel and Macys have some nice tables. Pottery barn has some pretty ones too. The Fort round and rectangular tables are pretty. Also the Toscana. I like the servers on those too. I have several old dining tables that I like. One is a Tell City Trestle Table, also some antique wood tables. Also, drop leaves so you can make them fold down when you aren't using the table. Facebook Marketplace and resale stores or antique stores have great deals too.
I am in need of a new dining table and chairs, got rid of the matching set too heavy looking. I want something light and airy, I love a darker oval or rectangular table but it is the chairs I don't see to be able to match well, I see a table but then I would need chairs so unless I find both I don't want to purchase one before the other, considering a different type chair from the table, like a wood table and chairs with metal or fabric.. Can't wait to see the next video with chairs! Wonderful content!
I would love to see wrought iron tables and chairs...they have been hard to find Quality that is... I love all the tables but rectangle glass is my favorite.. Thank Julie always informative 👍
Love your videos, would love to see a few with tiny rooms in tiny homes. We want to do our diningroom over but it's ridiculously built for comfort. It's 9ft wide and 14 ft long with 2 exits on each long wall, and 1 exit on each end wall with a chimney smack in the middle of one of the long walls that we assume was a pot belly stove connection. No matter which table we try, we can barely get by.
About 8 years ago, we got a dining table from Wayfair. It is more narrow than most. I’m not sure, but you might be able to put the size you’re looking for in their search bar. You also might want to check out having a custom table built for the space, that is narrower than normal. You might be able to find someone locally who could do it inexpensively, and I think there are probably lots of woodworkers on Etsy, as well. Best of luck!

Hi Julie, Your video covered a great variety and I love all of your examples. My sewing table is a Walnut Trestle table that I found in an antique store many years ago ($100.00 and all of the table edges are rounded!), but now you have me thinking that I could change it out with the dark Tiger Oak Draw-leaf table (our dining table now) that I bought 3 years ago. We gave our light-toned tiger oak Table, Buffet and Chairs to our son when he graduated from college. I had him pick out an upholstery fabric, and we added good foam and recovered the chairs. They look wonderful and they sit very comfortably. I was raised in a house w/ a glass breakfast table, and there won't be one in my house. Thank you.
I linked them in the description box and featured them in the shop the look SQUARE section Priscill- the West elm and Pottery Barn ones are both 8-seaters
Hi Julie, thank you for the wonderful video. I have started measuring my dining room to find the perfect table. Had a question though if the table is circular, does the area rug have to be circular too?
Hi Julie, I love your interior designing by the way! Now i have a Rectangle dinning & living area off of the kitchen you step down to the room. i'm not too sure how to set up the dinning table & lounge TV etc. can you help me sort this out? Thanks Toni
I’m a new fan of your page ! What are you thoughts about placing a glass top on a wood dining table? My cat loves to jump on it ( yes, I know 😱). I’m refinishing the top to eliminate some scratches and I wonder if I should get a glass top for it. Thank you for all your great design advice.
Hi Julie, great tip on the pedestal table. I was considering the french country style trestle table, but you are probably right that people on either end might bump into the table legs. My goal for this year is to get a new dining table (and chairs) before Christmas. I've been using a hand me down for the last 20 years. Time to be a grown up!
I got a victorian oak dining table on Craigslist and refinished the dark oak top to be a stained teal color from minx wax and did the base bright white. I bought white chairs and upholstered the seating into a matching tea boat cloth. I really do't like the current trends in furniture.
Hi Julie, thanks for your great video. I have some question that would like your advice. My dining room area is 9.5 to 10ft wide and 7" length and I should buy a round table. And I want to seat at least 6 people, what size should I look for in a round table? Will 54" too small with my dining room space? As I think 6ft wide round dining table is too big for me? Please advise.
My great room is set up like the room 3:36. It’s not as wide, (I think 14X12ft area) however. Im torn between a round table or rectangle, as it’s in the middle of the flow of traffic to the backyard, the family room and kitchen.
Thank you for another awesome video, Julie. You rock! And you're looking fabulous as always, but just fyi, you had red lipstick on your teeth 🤣 lol 🤦♀️ happens to the best of us. 🤷♀️
Nice! my table is about the right size and the right form for my dinning room (when expended that is)! ^_^ When I was in my previous apartment, the dinning space in the kitchen wasn't as generous, so I placed one of the smaller side of the 3' x 4' table against a wall and placed two chairs on each of the longer sides (instead of one chair by side). That gave me enough room to move in and out of the kitchen or open the fridge door. Is it a viable solution for a small space or should I have chosen a smaller table instead?
This was perfect as a vanity desk for me. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxMAlHv7-BBWMrPRm5-uEoD6rtdT7SG2Qr Especially the glossy finish. Easy to cleanI was looking for something that wasn't the traditional white and with more of a modern feel. This fit the bill beautifully. I put it together with no problems, by myself in under an hour.Make sure you double check where you place the drawer tracks before screwing down. I had one track that needed to be aligned with different holes than the rest.
Be sure to tune in NEXT WEEK for my roundup of the best dining chairs!! What was your favorite table from this list?
Would you please consider doing some videos about Arts and Crafts/Mission/Craftsman style stuff?
Ooh yes! This is what I am waiting for! Is it true that captains chairs are no longer in vogue? Seems like all dining chairs on photos are exactly the same, either all armless, or all armchairs. The Aster Table from CB2 is very sculptural!

Sounds perfect if it’s lasted that long Gina! 🙌😍

I love the oval shapes tables
I grew up with oval tables, I love how informal yet elegant they are
Great video! Can’t wait for the dining chair video. Chairs are so very expensive!
Chairs are expensive because they need to be solid and sturdy. Plus you sit on them daily- save on the table, splurge on the chairs! 👍☺️
I would love to see wrought iron tables and chairs...they have been hard to find
Quality that is...
I love all the tables but rectangle glass is my favorite..
Thank Julie always informative 👍

Hi Julie, Your video covered a great variety and I love all of your examples. Hi Julie, great tip on the pedestal table. I was considering the french country style trestle table, but you are probably right that people on either end might bump into the table legs. And I want to seat at least 6 people, what size should I look for in a round table? Will 54" too small with my dining room space? As I think 6ft wide round dining table is too big for me? Please advise.
6 ppl can be seated at 65” comfortably
Finally 💛

Hi Julie, I have 14x14 pentagon space for my dining area. What size round table would work best in this space?
Subtract a minimum 36” and that’s your maximum size, you’d be left with 11’ diameter which is huge. 6’ can fit 8-10 ppl
What is the biggest round table you can buy without going custom?
Cute hair cut!!!
Thank you Estrella 🙏🥰
Hi Julie
How many people would a 65” or 72” round table seat? What would be the minimum room size to fit a 72” round table?
You need 36” min for passage all around the table. 72” fits 8 comfortably
BLESSINGS ❤

Round is more informal and allows more space to walk around it

Would a round table work in an open concept room? Just a small one that fits 3-4?
Absolutely!
Can’t wait for next week. Perfect timing since I’m having a round wooden kitchen table being made & looking for chairs.
Woohoo! Let me know if you have any questions Anne!
I bought a dinning chair similar to number 2 in your first set. I wish I can show you a photo.

Please add more ideas for tables seating 10 to 12 persons.
I love my dining table (seats 10-12) from Rove Concepts (Osten). Will add more in the future!
What about a table shape and size for an eat-in kitchen
Measure the space you have allotted. If it’s wide/long, go for rectangular. If it’s equally spaced length x width, go for square or round

Thank you for the tip Robert!
Nice! my table is about the right size and the right form for my dinning room (when expended that is)! ^_^
When I was in my previous apartment, the dinning space in the kitchen wasn't as generous, so I placed one of the smaller side of the 3' x 4' table against a wall and placed two chairs on each of the longer sides (instead of one chair by side). That gave me enough room to move in and out of the kitchen or open the fridge door. Is it a viable solution for a small space or should I have chosen a smaller table instead?
That’s the perfect solution so you still get a large dining surface 👏
I really am searching for a round counter top table
You can always build the base with a separate top. 34”H base is perfect for countertop height with a slab of 1”-2” thick
