Your older cakes are still great because 20 years ago, they didn’t have the helpful cake decorating things they have now. All the tools, mats, scrapers, helpful videos. We are starting off these days with much more resources.
So true! I pulled out my 22 year old portfolio of cakes to show my daughter's boyfriend and he was impressed by all of them. I was surprised based on the cakes young ppl are exposed to from Instagram etc. We didn't have much to work with back then. I loved piping. Like most I started with the Wilton shaped pans and star tips. Funny thing, I never liked fondant but any of my blue ribbon competition cakes we fondant. Happy Caking!
Great advice on so many levels. It’s good to look back. We can see how far we’ve come and also not to be so hard on ourselves. Also good lessons to reflect on. Caking is a journey like you say its cake and have fun!!
Do you have a video on how you make those baby blocks? I tried making them and they came out ok, but not crisp and clean like yours! Never mind. Ha! Just finished watching the part where you said you didn’t and would next time!
Hi Carolyn! How do you film your content? Do you use a camera or your phone? How do you deal with running out of memory (if its your phone)? Thank you!
I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max. I bought it a few years ago and invested in the one with the most memory (over 500GB) so I wouldn't run out of space! I also got a MacBook about a year ago so my phone could easily communicate with my laptop. It's so easy to air drop videos to my Mac to edit them!
When it comes to the baby boy cake, I actually liked the first one much more. The feet and the baby butt on the second cake look so unrealistic to me, making it an aesthetic eyesore. The emoji cakes were my favorite, and that dark black background on the second one really popped and made the colors look amazing. Great job!!!
All the cake rules. I remember when I was starting out, one of the rules I kept seeing was that cream cheese frosting absolutely could not be covered in fondant because it wouldn't work 🙄I never once had a problem covering cream cheese frosting in fondant.
Right?! We all find what works for us! To tell others that something won't work, just because it didn't work for you, is ridiculous. I've been refrigerating ALL of my cakes since I began!
The tiered cakes were a few years into my cake journey. I have tons more pictures of old cakes that are a mess! I've made a few other videos about this before, so I try not to show the same pictures in all of them. But, trust me, it was rough in the beginning! And, don't be too hard on yourself. Some people just pick things up faster. With practice, you'll improve at your own pace! 🙏
Your a true inspiration. Thank you for sharing
The advice in your videos is GOLD. Thanks so much.

Never mind. Ha! Just finished watching the part where you said you didn’t and would next time!
I definitely will film it next time I do it!
Your cakes are incredible! Did you do lots of courses over the years or is it literally from just learning as you go?
I didn't take too much classes, I really learned as I went! There weren't a lot of options like there are now. 😊

I totally agree about feet on the cake! Thank you! 💜

I know it was stressful, but that Noah's Ark cake is so adorable.
Making 10 sets of 3D twin animals is something I really don't want to do again 😂 But it really is cute!!
😃😃🥰
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Your “starting out” cakes are still 1000% better than mine lol. I just don’t seem to be getting the hang of it very quickly. 😒

I enjoy making 3D animals. Your little monkey was so cute!! My monkeys look a bit more like bears for some reason. 😅😂
Awww thank you! It may be the placement of the ears. Monkey ears are more on the side of the head, while bear ears are on the top!
@@KarolynsKakes I'll pay attention to the ears next time I make one. Thank you for the advice!
So…Am I weird because I love your weird ways? ❤😂
Tell you Mom HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!
Thank you love!! And no because you must be weird like me!! 😂
More professional!
