@@Richard_Stroker He would then proceed to say the exact same words we can see in above video, except replacing the word "black" with "white" when describing the band's name.
While I don't really agree with the score I think Anthony hit the nail on the head with the "They are giving us EVERYTHING" idea. This isn't meant to be their most polished, fully conceptualized project in their catalogue. I love that it doesn't feel as tight and cohesive as their other albums, it gives it a real sense of putting everything on display and filling out the picture of black dresses all the way to the edges of the canvas and letting it bleed over. It's a perfectly messy final stamp and probably the most loving goodbye BD could give to their fans who just love their sound. I think it's a perfect way to end the project if they do decide not to return to it again.
even back in peaceful as hell they said they would still make music together and possibly revisit the band once fan tensions had settled, this is different because the two are breaking up as a couple
@@leafyyay6960it’s not necessarily that different though, as plenty of artists who were couples made music together after a breakup. Think about it like this: if they couldn’t work together with their relationship ending, why did they make this album? Why’d they keep going, if they knew it was over? The worst part of breaking up isn’t a few years later when things chill, it’s in the midst of a breakup, so it stands to reason if they could do the album while breaking up/right after breaking up, they could manage to do one together in the future, if they want.
seems like you missed the context of this album being a breakup album, devi and ada broke up and the lyrics very much reflect their feelings on that and i think you misinterpreted it as just them talking about the band ending (although they kinda mix meanings). also i don't really get your reading of Magic Eye, I thought it was pretty clear that it was directly about taking acid lol.
honestly kinda confused about this review in general, it seems like you kinda missed the point on some of these songs and I really cant see how a lot of these are any worse than the lowlights on their previous records. black dresses can always have their awkward performance/songwriting moments and I find those to stick out a lot more on a few songs on each of the previous albums. ive never heard you speak so lukewarm on black dresses especially and i find it confusing that this is the album that makes you go "meh" when everyone else seems to be pretty blown away by this one. just ur opinion tho
No like exactly. It’s so insane to break up with your girlfriend and then record an album with her where you share your most raw emotions about it. The album feels so different from anything else I’ve heard before with that context. They really pushed boundaries until the very end, and it’s kinda poetic that their final album would be like this
Welcome to the Needle Drop. He often gets lyrics/themes wrong. His interpretations of things are usually really bad. I’ve also found in recent years Fantano has become more biased and his reviews are plagued with favoritism. What I mean is if it’s an artist he personally loves - he will be charitable about the interpretations or more open minded. If it’s an artist he doesn’t personally ride with then he’ll have the most least charitable take ever and won’t even put in the effort to try to understand it. Like if Kendrick Lamar put out a song with lyrics that sound cringe on the surface - Fantano would find some excuse as to why it’s actually brilliant. Or he would at least be open to the idea that maybe there is more to the lyrics that he doesn’t get. But if it’s a band like Twenty One Pilots or the Killers - then every lyric better be perfection or else he’s gonna have the most negative take on it, even if he’s completely wrong and misunderstood the themes. I’ve also found that lately Fantano seems to care about what others think about his opinions. Case in point Bring Me the Horizon. Fantano literally loved every single they released. And then he said the band should do X Y and Z for their next album. So the band does X Y and Z and suddenly Fantano is saying that they shouldn’t have done that. And then when listening to the album on stream he starts saying all the singles are awful or embarrassing - when he previously loved them. His entire mood shifted the second he started listening to the album in front of another person. This isn’t the first time he’s done this either. He really changes his opinions fast when he has his two hipster friends on stream. All this to say I wouldn’t take his reviews that seriously. Like obviously reviews are subjective. But the bigger issue is that Fantano has gotten worse over the years with giving things a fair shot and he’s often just wrong about certain things. So when a critic starts doing that then it’s not worth engaging with. Like the issue isn’t that a critic doesn’t like something. I actually really enjoy negative reviews of things I love, because it gives me a unique perspective on it. It gives me insight into how another person views this piece of art I enjoy. It also makes me analyze my own opinions. But when the reviewer doesn’t even get the lyrics right, and doesn’t care enough to even do the most basic research - then they aren’t worth your time.
Or stoopid dream , Honestly I can’t see his angle . The track list is daunting with a lot of different influences. But I think the tracks themselves are for the most part pretty solid and well done
i rlly think it’s their best album and i absolutely LOVE everything they’ve released. i love the runtime love the ballads and sonic variation across tracks. i feel like i’ve heard their most vulnerable lyrics on this album and considering the rest of their discography that is saying a lot. if you find me gone is my new favourite track and i don’t think it will ever not make me cry. idk everyone’s entitled to their opinion but i just rlly love this album there’s nothing they could’ve improved imo. still happy u reviewed it tho!

On the question of is this THE last album, the really REAL last album, and did they say that they’re done before, people need to chill.. Other bands have consisted of people who are exes, and/or continued on after breakups, and/or reunited later in spite of ended romances. I’m just saying, “but this really is it bc they broke up” doesn’t have the weight you might think. Maybe this will be it, but there’s no reason to believe they couldn’t make more music together after this, especially when this album exists. It’s not like this album was made within the context of a perfect relationship, then they broke up, then it became a breakup album, so that it was made in the context that it was, negates the “this has to be the end, bc breakup”. No, it doesn’t. As far as the music, I think I like it a little more than Anthony, but I agree they have had some better albums.. 7/10 for me, so far. If this is where they end, I’ll say it was a great run, and I’m not shedding any tears. Hope the best for them and their future art.
