I have been following Hajime Osaka's UA-cam channel for some time now. It was nice to see him show his chrono at baselworld!

Thanks for sharing the work of these innovative independents'.
It's amazing what these one man show watchmakers can do while large manufactures "need" years to develop similar mechanisms.
I understand that production in scale is more complex but it definitely makes us wonder how much R&D is really put into new pieces vs the amount of hype pushed by brands to simply justify astronomical prices

I love Mark's smiley face watch. What a beautiful piece and the way it hints at his motherland Russia... Just beautiful. I hope he considers making clocks like that as well.

Recommend having a look at the McGonigle brothers watches from Ireland. Very small volume production by Swiss trained watchmakers but decorated with a unique Celtic style in place of more traditional Swiss stripes, stippling and bevelling. The make a beautiful tourbillion and a gorgeous skeletonised minute repeater.

9k for the joker piece seems very reasonable. If it were to be white gold for say 13k since its no bracelet that would probably be a stronger seller as the collector who would consider it is clearly not budget minded or only his 3rd or 5th piece but more like 20th

The Joker is such an inspiring timepiece... Are you planning on talking someday about independent watchmaker Pita Barcelona? It is quite difficult to find info and videos about their work... Anyhow keep up the great work, always a pleasure to watch your videos!!

I can't imagine, or comprehend how these independent watch makers get started! It's not like the random companies that design a fashion watch with a cheap quartz movement.

The Joker, a great idea, beautifully executed. Why do I find it ironic that a watch meant for the middle market was introduced at a trade fair, where the entire run of 99 was snapped up by industry insiders, for many of whom 6,990€ is pocket change?

Great report as always. One question about the Hajime Asaoka watch, is that fly wheel bigger than usual or is that watch small? Because it was taking quite a lot of room back there.

    • @watchestv-com

Chaikin is the best. Absolutely unique design fresh-smile-face-lol. I think this is cool and important for Russian watches development manufacture to participate in Baselworld.

First: Why do you think that I am anglophone-only person? I'm a nativ German speaker and had French and Latin in school too.
Second: How is that a stupid comment? We live in an English speaking world - deal with it.

Chaykin sells watches for 7k a pop and he can't hire a half decent translator? Worst instance is during the end when Chaykin says the watch goes for ONLY seven thousand Euros and she uses ALMOST instead of only. Kills his little joke and inverts the meaning.
