  • Punk Rock icon. Spoken word poet. Actor. Author. DJ. Deep thinker.
Henry Rollins has been there and done that and isn't afraid to tell us what he really thinks about it.
He is far more than just a formerly-angry punk front man as I discovered in this fascinating one-on-one...

Henry Rollins is my moral north star. He puts into words alot of what I am thinking. When he talks about having no self confidence and that he feels he has to work 3 times as hard because he knows he will probably screw it up. Man that is hits home.

How he talks about his father hit home too. My father back breaking hard worker and really smart. But buys into all the right wing conspiracy theories. Dad literally believe in global under ground pedophile cities.

Henry Rollins isn't ANTI-RACIST - he just hates white people - countless studies show that blacks are the MOST BIGOTED people on EARTH - Henry ignores their hateful demeanor because he feels they are INFERIOR. The guy is a CLOWN SHOW just virtue signaling his entire life - saying things & telling lies he doesn't actually believe just because he thinks it's trendy. It's a pathetic existence

I like Henry a lot - Rollins Band in particular were a very underrated band.
No ones perfect obviously and Henry definitely is a fighter and gives a great interview .. that said their are two great questions hes being avoiding for years :
    1. The reason hes not doing Rollins Band anymore is because he's too old to be travelling and singing at the level the band would be perched at today. Also, There is zero money in being in a band of that level in 2023.
    2. His parents. He wont go into that - its a closed shop. if he genuinely didn't connect with his father at 61, hes obviously been dealt a really hard blow in childhood. Theres got to be abuse at the root of that.

YESSSSS!!!! FINALLY! For once, I don't hear Henry Rollins and his "work ethic" bullshit. He's been a multi-millionaire for many years now.
Henry can be interesting from time to time because he has entertaining ways of describing ordinary bullshit in life, but FUCK him and his work ethic, and his "working hard for his meals and his floor to sleep on" garbage, because he's a *very* wealthy man for what he did with his life. Christ, he gets on stage and talks. He is NOT a brain surgeon. He does NOT build power stations or highways for a living. THAT kind of stuff is hard work.
Now that he's getting old, Henry Rollins is finally outgrowing some of his pretentiousness and I think that's pretty cool. It's also about fucking time already!

I LOVE THIS MAN!!! He is incredible! HE IS INTENSE and that is why I love him!
I have watched him speak 4 times in my life. I saw him in 2005, 2017,2018 and 2022.
He is delightful and I had the honor of meeting him in 3 out of those 4 speaking engagements. He is a sweet person but I can see why he is guarded.
In the last three speaking engagements there were still groupies. One of them was quite clingy and wearing THE OUTFIT hoping to be called backstage for sex. She was so vacant, she didn't know Henry wrote books! He probably got lucky and good for him if he liked that type.
He would be a great dinner guest not because he is a celebrity but simply because he has a lot of interesting things to say and he is funny without even trying.
Growing up in conservative deep south Texas, a lot of the things he said would have been considered foreign but when he said them, I felt like I wasn't alone in the world and VINDICATED.
My dad died of cancer around the time Joe Cole was murdered so when I was exposed to his work, it was like the universe gave me a gift. I liked the book on grieving because those feelings were shared when I read those lines in his book!
He even talked about how people show their true colors when there is a death or tragedy. I saw a lot of ugliness too when my father died and to know someone else knew and understood meant so much at the time!
I will always have a special place in my heart for this man!!!

Wow, he really has placed himself on a pedestal, looking down on everyone else. Henry really does believe that he’s doing something great, and making changes to the world by ridding it of all its evils. I guess it’s great to have been in a popular band. I’m sure that spoken word that he does pretty much just preaches to the choir. In the grand scheme of things his impact probably will be similar to the effect a butterfly has on the world by rigorously flapping its wings. Sorry, but I don’t need some former punk rocker to lecture me on how to live my life in a meaningful and moralistic way. Henry Rollins really comes across as a narcissistic clown, even though he really does believe he is enlightened and is making a difference.

    Getting into fights
Always going with his feet on the starting blocks
Henry lived in a white section of DC
He attended a very exclusive, very expensive private school
He scooped ice cream for a few months
In his 20s, he punched 14yr old kids at black flag shows
He talks, and noone is listening, writes it down, undoubtedly for far fewer hours than the average American works....all while dressed like an auto mechanic despite never having done any work in his life that would actually require a pair of Dickies

Behind the glib response to his father's death there's still a bunch of unresolved feelings. From what I have read in a lot of Henry's books he should have had just as much rage towards his leftist mother for all the loser degenerate boyfriends she brought home to abuse him. He's open enough to talk about the stuff but hasn't processed it. I had a very similar kind of dad growing up but i found room to forgive his bullshit, Henry comes off pretty cold and cruel about a dying old man that wanted to see his son...
