    More profs need to explain why they carry out certain calculations and what assumptions they make. This helps us understand how to solve problems. You are one of the few that do this.

    Finally somebody explains it in terms of Potential gain and Potential decrease. I especially like how you elaborated that the reason for the convention for the resistor was energy loss.

    I'm a first year Sound and Communications Tech/Installer Apprentice. I was having no luck understanding the textbook explanation of Kirchhoff's Law, but after watching your 4 videos once, it began to make sense.     Best explanation. My only question is, why is the voltage drop across the resistor negative when the current flowing through the resistor or load is going in the same direction as the current in the loop.

      When the current flows through the resistor there is a decrease in energy.

      @@stepbystepscience I get that but whether it flows from left or right it still flows through the resistor. Unlike the cell or battery when the loop flows from a negative terminal to positive terminal we denote a positive gain in potential.
