At the age of 16 Michael Schenker was already on the tails of Iommi and Blackmore and this is insane! You can clearly hear that this blond kid was destined to the greatness, maybe he didn't pile up millions of dollars like his older brother did (and remember Michael could have make it too if he had chosen one of the dozens of big names that asked him to join them since he left Ufo !) but he's been recognised as an icon in rock history, one of the greatest guitar players of all time and that's what he's always aimed for in the end... God bless you Meister Michael Schenker!
Lead guitars: 1st clip Michael Schenker, 2nd clip: Uli John Roth, 3rd clip: Uli John Roth. As most people might know: M.Schenker quite early went away to play with british rock band UFO. From very first start until today (1965/ 1969 - 2022) and still: Rhythm guitar: Rudolf Schenker.
Those first two Scorpions albums are rare gems among the Heavy Metal genre, in that I still listen to them and they still get me all fired up after all these years. Such wonderful musicianship. There are certainly still moments from the later works that get me excited, but the first two albums each hold up so well as complete works that I had to post something. This is the kind of inspiration that makes music one of the great human endeavors and perhaps after Engineering, and before Politics, music is one of the greatest problem solving human endeavors.
+Marty Goddard Hi Marty! It's Kip and I hope this is Jim's brother I'm writing to. Wonderful comments and regardless of whether or not you are who I think you are, I totally agree with and relate to every word! Thanks dude.
Kip! Thank YOU, my friend, for providing such excellent musical advice in those days. I still really dig "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath", and "Master of Reality" too. Iron Maiden, Motorhead and Judas Priest, Def Leppard. Have you heard this song by "Royal Blood" called "Blood Hands"?
+Marty Goddard Truly, that first album rates in my opinion as one of the most breath taking and ground breaking records I ever heard. The bright, lively almost raw sound Schenker got and playing that borders on inspired madness has rarely been equalled, even by Schenker, though he had his moments with UFO. Possibly matched by Sad Wings of Destiny in terms of its impact on me, this album stands alone as one of the great rock records ever made. I treasure it still. The Uli Roth albums are also magnificent.................I recall waiting eagerly for each one to be released at the little record shop I used in Witney, Oxfordshire. Great days.
@Izno Iznogoud Agreed...Around that time period, Rock was changing, evolving from Acid/Psychedelic Rock, Space Rock, on into Hard Rock/Metal. Bands of this time period are interesting to see the change. Rudolf's brother Michael's band, UFO went through the same change, their first two albums not much like their later music, but still interesting to listen to anyway.
Really sad later they decided to move for rock pop genre and gain mainstream popularity... They could have shine up to heavy metal hits like Black Sabbath, Dio, Iron Maiden, and similar others of their era...
MS played a Les Paul until right before he joined UFO, the story goes that at a Scorpions gig he broke a string right before a lead break, so Rudy handed him his guitar so he could play the lead, and he fell in love with the V and the sound of Rudy's 50-watt Marshall. Supposedly the UFO guys also offered to buy him a new one to entice him more into joining the band.
7:40: check out Uli's heavy duty whammy bar. That thing's HUGE. Actually, I read somewhere that he used to break the stock ones all the time so Francis, a trained mechanical engineer, designed and built these heavy gauge units for him.
I'm going mad video...never saw that before. I liked the bass player. Rudolph and Klaus...so young. Almost didn't recognize Klaus. What a band...and from Germany they conquered heavy metal world
Uli continues to amaze me. Guy never looks at his guitar. I loved the Scorpions ever since Love at first sting, growing up. Then later on I learned their 70s stuff, and my God what a band.
To me Speedy's Coming and We'll Burn The Sky is when I think they had turned the corner and were on they way up! It's like the first time I heard Pat Benatar you knew she was going to make it big. Not categorizing her with the Scorpions other than that when I had heard the previous two songs I mentioned i knew it was a matter of a little time and a couple more rockers like that they were starting to turn out and they were going big time then. And that's exactly what happened. And I don't know about you all but all but to me the Scorpions was the band that took kick ass Rock and Roll to the next harder level than anybody else was at the time and that that era in Rock and Roll was when everybody stepped up their game to the next level and I happen to think that a lot of that came from their influence or at least that's what I'll alway think but then I've loved this band from the very first time I ever heard them.
LONESOME CROW was one the first "Progressive" albums I have ever listened to . It made me fall in Love with the genre and cherish the early years Scorpions..
Mom Schenker must be very proud! Thanks for putting these 3 early videos together. Even from these you can tell how talented Michael Schenker and Uli Jon Roth are. Like there was something magical in the water where they grew up. They never sounded like anyone else but both played soaring leads that grabbed me so much I had to tell my friends...listen to this. Scorpions were not played much in U.S. and I got to them via Mcihael Schenker and then just gobbled up those early L.P.'s. Solid.
I've been hooked on scorps from flying to the rainbow and on.,.songs that were a little awkward but st the same time sooo special!!!klaus voice , uli's unbelievable guitar, Francis clever bass lines, Rudy's 3 chords that made sense...and Kenneth drumming perfect yet so underrated!
I agree, Rosenthal was a great rock drummer, too bad his time in the band was so short. I believe he left the band because he got drafted by the army. Rudy Lenners was great too, it's so sad he had to quit the band because of health problems. I think both of these guys were better than Hermann Rarebell.
I wish The Scorpions would have stuck to this original formula - it's so much more significant and meaningful than "Lovedrive" and everything thereafter.....
Prog X, they are talking about the old days (before 1975). The stuff that came out between 74 and 77 was pretty good, but when Lovedrive came out in in 1979 they made their mark on the map as a serious hard rock band. I believe that from 79 to 88 that it was the most powerful music anyone could make in that day and that they were in the same league as Van Halen but they had a much better singer! The stuff that came out between 1990 and 2010 was good, but the 79 to 88 era was off the hook!
I think they also mention something about being the sole German band that wasn't like Amon Duul and other 'kraut-rock' bands of that period. When you compare the early Scorps to other German bands of the time, yeah, they were definitely different.
In 1972 Scorpions was making songs that seemed like "The Sweet"(Ballroom blitz), "Led Zeppelin" (Whotta gotta love) and others bands like theses . Thanks God that they change their way to true Hard Rock and Heavy Metal road!!
Their early albums were really strange. It's hard to believe that the same band that did songs like Lonesome Crow , Drifting Sun , Longing For Fire, Evening Wind , Yellow Raven and I've Got to Be Free is the same band that did Rock You Like a Hurricane, and Winds of Change. They went from weird psychedelic music to mainstream AOR . Lonesome Crow and Love At First Sting are like Polar opposites. I don't care how many people disagree with me, Animal Magnetism was the last true Scorpions album that retained the classic elements. Klaus Meine used to scream a lot, almost like Dan Mc Cafferty of Nazareth. Blackout was a good album, but to me that was definitely a transition album from the older more dangerous and interesting music to the more formula predictable melodic Hard Rock format. I would consider Blackout an actual Metal album, but all their later albums more AOR Hard Rock
Successfull as f*ck, even today their music videos get million views, with simple and honest concept, not overly complicated but quality music and sound, and great strong character vocal.
I read that the tremolo bar was specially made for him by one of the other guys in the band -- Francis Buchholz, who apparently was a machinist -- because Ulrich Roth kept breaking the stock Strat tremolo bars.
The origins of the Scorpions go back as far as 1965, when they were still on the beat band. Back then Rudolf Schenker sang, until today the only original band member. Footage on Super 8 can be found on UA-cam. When Klaus Meine and Michael Schenker joined the band, a completely different, more rocking component came to light. However, that was just the phase of Krautrock, bands like Kraftwerk, Kraan, Can and Amon Düül shaped this direction. So it was not surprising that in the debut album "Lonesome Crow" in 1972 hit the same notch, especially as the record company Brain Records and producer Conny Plank were to be regarded as the greats of this direction. However, already with the follow-up album "Fly To The Rainbow", released in 1974 by RCA Victor and produced by the Scorpions himself, it became clear that one would orient increasingly towards Hard Rock. This documentary by the German television broadcaster WDR traces the way of the Scorpions from the beginning to the climaxes quite well.
Where can we have see the super 8 on UA-cam ? I could not find any links. You can watch it tho via Uli 40th scorpions anniversary LPs. Any links please share thanks mate !
I don't know what he's doing these days but he was on an album around 1980 by the band Serene. It also featured former Scorpions keyboardist Achim Kirschning (Fly To The Rainbow, In Trance).
I don't understand what they're saying but it's great to see this footage! Micheal was 16 years old when they recorded lonesome crow. Those gold plated albums on the wall would not be without ulrichs contribution to the scorpians.Accept were just as good as the scorps and could have been just successful had they had the right vocalist.Deiter Dirks produced them as well as the scorps!
Klaus and Rudy speak English just fine, but they still live in Germany, and clearly this interview and documentary were made in Germany, hence them speaking their first language.

Oh i forgot, ,this may sting a bit.. , Anyway here goes,, If the band you play in now , starts playing different tunes, i might see you on the dark side of moon?,, , seriously

he didn't pile up millions mostly because he drank it all away. Or had princess fits and walked off stage. Incredible talent, and his own worst enemy

Hell yea - 70 Scorps --the most underappreciated "piece" of music History ..!!!!!
klaus with a beard and a very young michael schenker..!
i really enjoyed seeing these very early video clips..!! awesome band!!
Lonesome crow, the beginning of a great band and my favorite rock guitarist ever.... 17 year old Michael Schenker!
Damn... !!! so he was 17 year old at that time???
И мооой! ❤
@@rosejuliet1219да, всего 17! Он 1955 года рождения
Scorpions through out the years always had great sound never mattered the changes that time brings they gave us song after song.
Michael Schenker very young playing gibson guitar, sweet sounds , Michael Schenker genius!!!!

Sorry, but the stock bar is actually quite strong. He'd break the fender vibrato mechanism before even bending the stock vibrato arm.
There's not enough footage of 1970's-era Scorpions, period.
Scorpions early works are extraordinary. Later they just OK.
The Scorpions have played together
since the 1960s.Their desire was
to play music.
Scorpions - The best band of the universe!

Very cool 🤘
He joined Eloy shortly after this and did a few albums with them. He also wrote a lot of the lyrics on those Eloy LPs.

Gute Video , hervorragender Musiker einer legendarische Krautrockband - uberhaupt kein ahnliche...bis Heute zum Tage..
Meine with a Beard! This is not heavy yet! Early German Rock. Lonesome Crow? Way before they got big! This is great to see this early footage!
Thanks for the info on Lothar. He's definetly one of my favorite bass players of all time and I've heard them all.
GENIAAL!!!
Michael Schenker's early playing was already something exceptional, like Gary Moore's in Skid Row.
