awesome radio just purchased this very model from my ham buddy got the Amp.and external speaker and the Kenwood desk mic going to have it all gone thru and restored!!!
You should replace all the capacitors on the carrier unit board. If they fail, it could cause the fail of the 66312 DDS chip which is unobtainable. As I remember, there are both leaded and surface mount types on that board. Mine failed in spectacular fashion (capacitor leakage). But that was back when the DDS chips were still available from Trio-Kenwood. Still working today.
Yes I did that board back in 07, it was the first board I looked at when I opened it up a few days ago, all looks good still. The replacement caps are holding up so far. I have the DDS chips ending with the #2 so that is good. Thanks for watch my friend... Cheers from SLC
