- Big surf is headed to California - and also San Diego County - in the final days of 2023 as the King tides approach. Massive waves are expected to arrive as early as Thursday morning and last through Sunday.
What are King tides?
"A king tide is a non-scientific term people often use to describe exceptionally high tides. Tides are long-period waves that roll around the planet as the ocean is "pulled" back and forth by the moon's and the sun's gravitational pull as these bodies interact with the Earth in their monthly and yearly orbits," according to the National Ocean Service.

If I was in San Diego I would watch the waves above Sunset Cliffs in OB. I used to and feed the seagulls at the same time. Great happy hour times!
I'm sure people will wait until it happens before they notice that something is different. They are too busy playing with their phone instead of using their phone to read about what is going on in our Country
You should leave a live camera on overlooking the OB pier. I might go up to SD for a few days (possibly take a boat out)
