I was like "oh no he needs to listen to Its Alright after all the other ones" and I'm so glad you did--- Mother Mother songs are just so *raw*, like lyrically and musically the songs just feel like someone's soul being bared to you. Like the friend you can talk to about all of the darkest sh*it. When I was younger they resonated with me, how raw and unformed and intense my emotions were and often still are, because I felt entirely seen. I still love their music, though I'm maybe a little less intensely emotional than I was in middle/high school, and it's nice to have some of their songs now be more like... healthy??? I mean not that the other ones were unhealthy, but stuff like "Its Alright" just feels like coming out of a long dark space and letting yourself heal. They're just... so good.
So we Mother Mother fans are all desensitized???? Is that why I didn't question the lyrics??? I thought we were just vibing??? Hello??? Are we okay??? DaMn
@@ubeyelliott6348 I don't know, I don't want to assume that just because someone listens to dark music, that they're unstable. I've had people use that against me, and other people I know. "Oh, because you don't listen to happy music, it's making you depressed! It's your fault," essentially. But... I think I can at least say for myself that these kinds of raw portrayals of feelings I personally have had makes it not seem so jarring for me- I just know I've already felt like this, so the lyrics just don't hit as hard. It feels more like someone kind of understands me. Even if one of the songs isn't something I personally relate to, the feeling still seems raw and real.
My favourite Monther Mother songs not included here are: -Ghosting -Angry Sea -All Gone -Bottom is a Rock -Wreaking Ball -O My Heart -Legs Away -Wisdom

I never clicked so fast ! More seriously about "Body" I know a lot of trans people are like "yup dysphoria" and other are like "yup dysmorphia" but as a transgender and disabled guy I always saw it as medical. Every inch of my body hurt and whenever I'm in a bad day I listen to it with the urge to just get rid of my body because I see it as "useless". I'm lucky that it works, that I've never been amputated or anything but when my brain can't process light and sounds and I have to use my wheelchair to go everywhere and sometimes I just can't go outside at all, I really feel "heavy". You know you just feel like without a body you would be at the same level as everyone else and it's soooo frustrating that it's "getting in the way". So I'm happy that you talked about the medical side of it because I thought I was the only one thinking it in the corner you know XD
Same and also i am plus sized and disabled and so I've always just felt in the way and that if my body wasnt they was it was then i would be happy. But slowly I'm realizing that my body is trying it's best to let me be alive but it's difficult. Body helps me cope with every bad feeling towards my body
Same! I'm chronically ill and Body is my theme song when I'm having a flare, like this body SUCKS can I return it for one that doesnt hurt all the time!?

A hayloft is the top of the barn. It's a common like, small farming community trope to sleep with the farmer's daughter and get chased away, him holding a shotgun and taking potshots. I don't know if there's anything important subtextually in that song.
Mother mother has a lot of feeling for people who have been repeatedly damaged. There are times I have a god complex due to suddenly bad things not happening for the first time so like Oh Ana. Lots of these songs fit just for people who are often beaten down or ostracized. So for me I was often abused I'm also trans and Body by mother monther was the first song to put into words the feeling but also the body issues I got from other mental issues as well. It helps word situations most people without pain might not completely understand. It's a feeling of drownding alone but listening to their music your trying not to drowned together. It's dark definitely and I don't need it all the time but sometimes I need it to get out of the cumbersome feelings and situations they talk about.
So glad to see “it’s alright” was on here, it’s the main one I hoped you’d react to. I also recommend “the stand”, “ghosting”, “family” and “get up” (all some of my faves, some might make you sad but all of them rock)

I have a suggestion if that's ok, it's for a guy called Cosmo Sheldrake, he's not that sad but he's very interesting as an artist! some of his songs include: Come Along Birthday Suit The Moss Pelicans We Axolotl Egg and Soldiers Solar Waltz (just to name a few)
I love how Bill interprets music and what lyrics mean Like a lot of the things he says in all his videos on the music he's listening to are things I never would have thought of or realised and they help me better understand why I actually like the music and help me connect better with the artist and the emotion they put into their music. Here's to another year of trying to stan
Penelope Scott is a great up and coming artist that you might enjoy! She has really great lyrics and all of her songs are _bops._ Some of my favorites of hers are: - Cigarette Ahegao - Rät - Born2Run (I prefer the shorter version that was originally released on tiktok personally, but yknow) - Sweet Hibiscus Tea - Lotta True Crime - American Healthcare
when it started talking about nose and eyes in body, it also tapped into my internal racism, i've hated my features for quite a while because because i didn't meet caucasian beauty standards and it was drilled into my mind as a child because that was all the media i consumed, western media
As someone who has liked Mother Mother for about 6 years now, it's crazy to me that they are getting popular now! Edit: If anyone new to MM is reading this, I hope you like them!! (Also Very Good Bad Thing isn't on Spotify so I advise you to listen to the album here on UA-cam since it's so good!!)
Honestly whenever I heard they were getting big on tik tok it made me so happy that other people could get into the band they're music is so good and just raw

You should so totally do Penelope Scott, she has some really good music that o definitely think it would be interesting to see your reaction to. -cigarette ahegao -born2run -mommy friend -feel better -moon sickness -rat -sweet hibiscus tea -Montreal -lukewarm -American healthcare
Tbh, I like mother mother so much because their music feels so chaotic and angry. The lyrics are really heavy and in a way that makes me feel understood. Like, I've become so numb to certain things and feelings and it's just nice to kinda let go by listening to this and singing along to songs that are so blunt and brutal. But I see how upsetting this must be to someone who connects with this on a different level. Especially someone like you who cares so deeply about things. :(
This really does highlight how desensitized I am to the music I listen to. For me music like this is very comforting because it shows I'm not alone in the way I'm feeling. I also have difficulty communicating things, so hearing lyrics like this that really illustrate thoughts I've had myself is very helpful.
Bill watching these for the first time: **understanding the message clearly and being concerned over the lyrics** Me listening for the 500th time: Yep these songs sound good
TW: Self harm as a person who used to self harm, Oh Anna really does describe that struggle for me a lot, and is honestly the best representation of what its like that I've found. Not a lot of people know that self harm is an addiction for most people and believe that just saying to stop will make the person stop, which really harms the other person when they get mad that they didn't. During that time I would feel like I was a disappointment and constantly thought about how it would affect my loved ones but couldn't fully stop doing it. Even after I thought I stopped, I found myself hitting my head into walls when I become overwhelmed with emotions, a habit that I am still combatting to this day.

Me, a depressed child: THIS MUSIC ROCKS! *Makes a playlist of only mother mother songs and listens to it on repeat* Normal people: ...help? This is terrifying? I need a hug after this...
@@sourlunae I definitely worded this like a "not like other girls" post but I'm more so referring to the feeling of having mental illness or a traumatic childhood and thinking certain things are normal or making jokes about things and having normal people find it off putting. Like I make a joke about past trauma or show people this type of music and they look at me weird and ask if I'm okay meanwhile I don't see a problem with it or find it comforting. It's not about being quirky it's that feeling of "oh that's right this feeling isn't normal and neither is this experience".

DaMn
No, we’re not ok at all, pretty sure most of us are mentally unstable-
@@lyna4279 u right u right
@@ubeyelliott6348 I don't know, I don't want to assume that just because someone listens to dark music, that they're unstable.
@@supremeoverlord0 yeah I felt that. It's not that the songs are what desensitized us but we like them because we are
My favourite Monther Mother songs not included here are:
-Ghosting
-Angry Sea

heatwaves been faking me outtt
Oooooooo, life itself is also a great one, it’s one of my new favourite glass animals song
PORK SODA IS A BANGER
That's a really good take! I never really thought of the songs that way before.
YES YES YES I always say as a disabled ND trans person Body just HITS RIGHT

i would change coffee for hamantha! the story would make an interesting video hah
Hamantha and Dinner is not over are also good
Please please dont push yourself!! If listening to these types of songs gets you really stressed please please take a break or rest dont worry we’ll wait!
had to pause as you said "oh anna".... oh bill. this is gonna be rough.
"It's Alright" really is such a comforting song. It feels safe.
A hayloft is the top of the barn. It's a common like, small farming community trope to sleep with the farmer's daughter and get chased away, him holding a shotgun and taking potshots.
I don't know if there's anything important subtextually in that song.
ya he seemed to dig a LOT more into that then nessasary pfft good analysis tho
I also recommend “the stand”, “ghosting”, “family” and “get up” (all some of my faves, some might make you sad but all of them rock)
family is definitely one of my favourites
ghosting is so good
me, who bops to Mother Mother without second thought listening to him talk about how the lyrics were sad and serious and upsetting: ... am i insensitive?
i just heard "alright so next is 'Body'" and went oh boy
I was thinking the same thing. I didn’t realize how dark some of these were because I was too busy giving

Calm Me Down is an awesome song omg
Lemon Demon is a perfect contrast after Mother Mother, honestly...
Jaws and Cabinet Man absolutely bop too
Honestly, as a chronically ill nonbinary person, Body just hits different. It’s heavy for sure, but I’m glad a song like that exists for people who need it.
Hey Bill, you seem like you’re going through a rough time. You’re probs not gonna see this, but in the off chance you do. You are a wonderful person and you deserve great things. You seem so kind and caring and genuine in your videos, that’s what drew me to watching them. I really hope you’re getting the help you need right now. I care about you bro, have a lovely day and a fantastic year.
Thank you very much for this. I'm doing my best, and i appreciate you taking the time to send kindness and support! i hope you and yours are safe and well! :')

bill : (teary) "oh god"

some of his songs include:
Come Along
Birthday Suit
The Moss
Pelicans We
Axolotl
Egg and Soldiers
Solar Waltz
(just to name a few)
I absolutely love the mess that is Pelicans We
yesss!! i also really like tardigrade song!
Axolotl and Solar Waltz are beyond underrated
Yess i really love his music !
This would be so good!!!
Oh so this is how people non desensitized by trauma react, cool to know
there is no wrong way to take in music as long as you are kind to yourself and others.
I had never really considered myself to be desensitized, but watching someone react like this has made me...question quite a few things
Also if you do Mother Mother again I love burning pile, arms tonite, (very?) good bad thing, wrecking ball, and ghosting
as a closeted pansexual mother mother is definitely one of my favs
I love how Bill interprets music and what lyrics mean
Like a lot of the things he says in all his videos on the music he's listening to are things I never would have thought of or realised and they help me better understand why I actually like the music and help me connect better with the artist and the emotion they put into their music.
Here's to another year of trying to stan
you have no idea how badly i needed to see something like this today. thank you so much for this. i hope you and yours are safe and well.

My favourite band!! 🥰
Omg yess my faves!! I'm sure Bill would love them!
Absolutely! I would add 'Six Weeks' to this list as well as 'Mountain Sound' they're just such bangers!
when it started talking about nose and eyes in body, it also tapped into my internal racism, i've hated my features for quite a while because because i didn't meet caucasian beauty standards and it was drilled into my mind as a child because that was all the media i consumed, western media
“Happy 2021, I’m ok 🙂” sounds like a song
As someone who has liked Mother Mother for about 6 years now, it's crazy to me that they are getting popular now!

Thier music is cool.
don’t forget lotta true crime :)
THANK YOU THIS IS SO COOL BTW I'M SO HAPPY THANK YOU FOR LISTENING TO MOTHER MOTHER AAAA
My favs:
Hayloft
Ghosting
little pistols
Arms tonite
Body
Burning pile

TW: Self harm
as a person who used to self harm, Oh Anna really does describe that struggle for me a lot, and is honestly the best representation of what its like that I've found.

*Makes a playlist of only mother mother songs and listens to it on repeat*
Normal people: ...help? This is terrifying? I need a hug after this...
so quirky.
