- Back once more to watch your takeoff and landings in Star Citizen. This time at everyone's favorite landing zone to hate, GrimHex. A popular destination for criminals and those that have a general hatred of all things atmospheric and gravitational. The hangar location makes it both easy to watch and simultaneously dangers to watch, especially if you are in EVA like myself.

it might be hard to follow around to all the hangars but Seraphim would be cool to see sometimes people really come flying in hot and cook it straight for the hangars, I saw an impressive one the other day.
Depends... I'm more of a PASS A FIST or two INTO YOUR FACE or more if you do the same to me. Otherwise you'll find me a player taking in the beautiful views that Star Citizen has to offer. DO take time to stop and smell the roses. You'll begin to see why so many backers have bought into Star Citizen.
Hence my Mi'qote sitting alone in a field in Final Fantasy XIV gazing at the distance gazing at the beauty of the world... There is beauty in the game realms we play in. if you just stop and admire it.

This is likely my favorite location for takeoff landings. Probably because the dark but well lit background and all the hangars are there so you don't need to zip around everywhere.
Man as simple as this stream is I actually enjoy watching these some of them were comical and some of them are actually pretty good and prepared to take off but you could always tell which ones a propilot and which ones are noob pilot just by their takeoffs love it keep up the good work man the good vids

I suspect that the Avenger Titan pilot didn't so much choose not to repair their wing, as the repair/refuel feature was broken again... ;)
Substracting points for getting the landing struts out shortly before the hangar-doors is...a bit odd.
I mean, pilots in RL get their gear out miiiiles ahead of the runway too and not just right above the tarmac. :D
Also when they take off, they don't inmediatly retrac gear, just in case something happens

I believe I was the A2 here. First time landing at Grimhex so I took my time :D Proud to have at least nailed the takeoff!
The best thing about the acceleration and/or speed limiter landing is that you can actually first zero out your thrust and pull your nose before touch down up and give some throttle again last moment without the risk of preventing the touchdown.
Looks, feels and works great in crafts like a m50 that actually have wheels as landing gear. Such a nice, classic landing. I do hope we get some air fields or carrier flight decks to land this way soon. VTOL is nice and all for vertical takeoff and touchdowns, but it's imho so much more fun to land modern aircraft style.
Speaking of that, we have to subtract one point for your nose touching down first instead of aft landing gear. 9/10, maybe even 8/10 it looked a bit unsteady, but that might have been just issues with the recording ... no, seems like you are moving that acceleration limiter a bit unsteady instead in one smooth movement.
But the take off were 10/10, gear getting in before you punch it was a nice touch too. But the nose really need to get pulled up a bit for those landings, not only for a more cinematic look, but as well for the simple purpose of not putting as much stress on the nose gear. The aft gear is almost always more sturdy than the nose landing gear, especially as most ship do have two landings gears aft, but only one on the forward side.
I finally got my friends to try out SC. As new players they appreciate your content and tutorials. It's not a me,me, and I game expiriance for sure.
Nice video, really enjoyable. That being said, I would argue against the idea that landing gear should be deployed only after passing the hangar doors. Ultimately, I find my inspiration for flying in the verse in real life aviation, and you're supposed to lower your landing gear before you start your final descent toward the runway (or in this case the hangar).
The reason may not be immediately apparent, but it's important. The closer you are to touchdown, the busier the pilot gets. Lowering the landing gear before starting the last phase of the approach is a safety measure that ensures that the landing gear deployment isn't forgotten during the busiest part of the landing.
I understand that one may argue that the landing gear risks to clip the hangar's structure, but a good landing requires a centered approach both vertically and horizontally, which means that's a non-issue. Nearly all Star Citizen ships have lots of vertical clearance.
A by the book stabilized approach requires the aircraft to be fully configured for landing by 500 feet above landing elevation, and I think that makes sense on Star Citizen as well. The landing gear should be lowered just before the final part of the approach in order to let the pilot focus on the approach and landing themselves.
Take-offs are a different matter, as you're supposed to retract the gear as soon as you've confirmed positive rate of climb, so an early (albeit not too early) retraction is fine.

The corsair used the VTOLs but the fact that he did NOT extend the wings made me a sad fellow Corsair player :/
Why do you need wings deployed in Zero-G while traversing an asteroid field?

Upgraded to the Freelancer Max from my starter ship because I felt like it was a good choice and I was right. Cargo capabilities but I can go ROC mining whenever I want or load up a cyclone to go attack a bunker. Very useful ship with quad size 3 cannons to make short work of combatants.
Just like the Ebon Hawk in the KOTOR Takeoff/Landings.

And as a corsair pilot it's a pain because VTOL has to be manually reset to on after raising the gear
Honestly, VTOL on takeoff in a cutlass in a horizontal hanger is potentially dangerous overkill. You're somewhat likely to bounce off the ceiling.
I think the landing with the "MAX" was mine, but I'm not sure, your angle of view wasn't good, I would have recognized myself by my equipment!
I normally use my M2 as a daily driver but in GrimHex I prefer to land with smaller ships.
Oh yes, the Max flies as she looks, "like a sluggisch rotten waterbucket in a curve " but does its job, was my old daily driver 😅😅
As someone as flies always decoupled i take offense to you taking points off for putting down landing gear before your over the pad. Lol
max is one of the few ships i bought with real money, and will probably never trade. i bought a c2 in game and use that more now, but i earned the money for the C2 with the max, and if aren't trading gold (you can) most people leave you alone. though the long burn of afterburners can be helpful for running and if you get a jump on someone coming after you you can usually get to qt elevation and leave before someone catches up. and it can carry anything.

Dude two days ago I had an epic awful level take off as my throttle was inverted since I’m just coming back to the game and got my HOTAS set up.
Had the best take off (cinematic ) and proceeded to boost backwards full speed into the wall. Was hoping you happened to catch it 😂😂
From time to time, the mobiglass route planner doesn't work in GrimHex either. A lot of time actually.
Suggestion: Announce to the server where you are so that you attract people showing off their best or worst efforts. I've started paying attention to my takeoffs and landings because of your videos. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for another entertaining video. This is a great concept and I really enjoy watching it. But I have to disagree with you a bit on the landing gear deployment. I think it's fine to deploy a little early, especially for the larger ships. I do agree that very early deployment should be a deduction. But I like seeing the gear drop on final approach. It looks more realistic and, dare I say, cinematic. Waiting until the last possible moment doesn't make sense to me. Of course, it's a matter of taste. For me, however, I wouldn't deduct points for a slightly early deployment.

This might be strange but when I'm flying my Corsair, the only time I set my wings in the down config is when I'm getting ready to fight or sense danger (pirates)with the hair standing up on the back of my neck. Oh...and for screenshots, of course, and when I know someone my be watching my take offs.
So when you see CMDR_Phreedom approaching you in a Corsair with its wings unfolded...
Hey Hybrid V Audio, This was a cool find. I dont know if anyone has ever told you but these videos remind me of a channel on UA-cam that makes videos watching people luanch boats at Miami Boat Ramps LOL. that 3:14 C2 start is highly possible my start... this is my flight route from GH... that long stop is when u cant QT to another planet so firstly u need jump to Yela with recalibration of QT drive...
You need to know, you can't plot the mobi-glass in grim hex in the hanger either. You have to pull out to set the points. I live at grim
tried the vtol on cutlass red takeoffs from arc. dificult not to slam in the roof, with trusters on the thumb stick
in the small hangar, cutty got too much steem then
I use autoloader just because of OCD and wanting to be in the exact center of the hangar pad. I usually make a perfect speed-limited cruise approach then auto land at the very end.

VTOL isn't the way to take off from such horz hangars directly to space. In my opinion using VTOL here would even be a mistake. Cheers.
My very first landing in SC resulted in an explosion. Any landing you can walk away from gets a thumbs up from me.

I had a freelancer max. It's nice because of the size 3 turreted guns, though the rear turret FOV is atrocious. These make it good for mid-high level bounties. The one main problem it has, besides being pretty ugly imo, is that it is absolutely terrible at maneuvering in atmosphere. Anything above SCM and it literally WILL NOT turn, which can hinder it against things like m50's.
I can newer use route planer in eny hangar. It can be fiddly inside armestyzones.
Realistically, no on puts their gear down right before touchdown. Not necessarily that they should put it down once they jump in (but that would be most realistic), but a millisecond before landing seems a bit much
the rating is based on looks, not practicality.
Why would you expect VTOL to be active in a horizontal take off tho?
Bruh, I always nudge my tail wing and starboard all the time, but that’s on me also, since I like to be “realistic” and not use 3rd person cam
Most people drop their gear outside the hanger thats not early at all.
someone also stated this and i agree, your landing should be retracted once you know for sure you are airborn and safe, in case something happens to be able to land again quick and not have to wait for gear, and for landing, early as same, just in case you need to rush it or even land for an emergency outside, IRL do this

I think it looks silly to deploy vtol for landings in GH, with the exception for hangar 13. Starting? Yeah makes sense, makes the start a bit smoother and more stable, but as you are coming in so low and do not a vertical landing the vtols look silly to me.
I get it that you like them for vertical landing, but coming from zero g directly into contact with the tarmac in the best case ... not my cup of cinematic.
I've been a gigantic fan of Jon's for maybe his entire career... and I LOVED what he said last night. His cuts against Biden were just as valid as his cuts against Trump. Just because your candidate gets made fun of in obviously true and hilarious ways, doesn't mean you can't still think they're the best person for the job of the choices we currently have. Is he the perfect candidate, is he even who I would have liked to see run for the Democratic party? Hell no! That doesn't mean he's not the best choice at this time. If you can't stick to your principles and reasons while still laughing at the people you might vote for, you really need to divest your pride from every debate, and maybe rethink what your outlook on life may have evolved into. Grow a spine, people.
Find it ironic that the "cinematic" landing guy picks the least cinematic camera locations to shoot cinematic landings from. Love the crash sound effects though.
Does GH no longer have the tiny armistice zone very close to the rock? I like landing at the exterior pads. Easy to decouple land from distance. Set vector, 15m/s speed aimed right at center of pad, tiny bit of space brake just before touchdown and gear down just before that space brake.

You're wrong on landing gear. It should go up well after you have left the landing area. Just before you are about to increase speed.
Landing gear should also be down as you approach the landing bay. NOT after you enter.
I only use VTOL on planets, there isnt really a reason to toggle it on stations.
Some of the havior ships seem to like to for take off even from stations.

You really should get a second judge for commentary, someone who will follow the same basic critera, but at the same time usually disagrees without a little.
That 9/10 Freelancer landing? Slowed down way to hard, way to early, and was super unstead on the roll. That was not a smooth landing, that was simply not cinematic at all. Way to much oversteering on the roll. Gear did came up way to early too for that slow speed, making it even less smooth. Though the touchdown was really smooth and the approach before the sharp breaking was pretty good too.
That was at best 7/10. Not bad, not good.
Thanks for the critiques, but I disagree with your gear assessment. The game is broken and if you stow your gear early on takeoff or after the airshield, the ship drops like a rock. (I only fly decoupled, no auto anything, so the workload is much higher.) Also, I think the cinematic aspect of your critique regarding gear is not really cinematic, but star wars based. Not grounded on any sort of realistic ops that would happen. You want to be configured early for landing, as in real life. Sorry, but star wars is dumb.
