I'm so thrilled to finally see footage of these things testing. I love the Kockum Sonics horns these things have. They sound a bit more melodic than the regular Nathan Airchimes.
Fantastic shots! I've yet to see any footage of these under their own power, super cool! I love the look of the new scheme and the chargers innards lit up at night. Not too sure if I like those bright blue LEDs though haha!
Also everyone expected the locomotive classification for these to be SCB-40, and WorldwideRailfan expected them to be classified as SC-42, but it appears that they'll be classified as SC-44.
unpopular opinion of mine, but the horns(k5ca-ls) sounds great on the chargers adding uniqueness and viciousness at speed(just like VIA's p42's)to the train than just the repetitive k5la's.
I respect your opinion but this is the new normal in canada and I wish they just change the sound of the soft mode to play K1l13 like the F40's are using
There are only a few P42s that have a K5LA. To the best of my knowledge they are 900, 903, 908. There may be 1 or 2 more but I am doubtful. The remainder use a hybrid type of horn, but I am not sure what the model is. If anyone has more info please let me know 🙂
I sincerely hope VIA RAIL is still going to use its 50s era stainless steel Budd cars on their premier transcontinental mainline train the Canadian which is their longest passenger train in the fleets it's so long it has to be split into two halves with the engines and first pasture cars on one track and the tail end of the train on another All feature 50s era stainless steel Budd cars originally built for it their predecessor the Canadian Pacific Railway they are still regularly used today not just on the Canadian but regional passenger services as well

As an american, I've never heard one of those horns in real life. Listening to them on video, I personally don't like the harsh sound they produce. It's better off with a Narrow Font K5LA or a K5L instead of the atrocious sound of the K5CA-LS. It's a canadian tuned K5LA from what I know.

If only these new Siemens Charger train sets were permitted to operate at their full intended, maximum speeds of either 110 or 125 mph (177 or 200 kph) on dedicated trackage as per Via Rail's HFR project, which appears to be purposely and endlessly delayed by our federal government! Having electrified HFR already in place would substantially reduce road and highway congestion while, most importantly, drastically lowering our carbon emissions by a ratio of 30 to 1 in comparison with an automobile carrying a single occupant! In light of the above-mentioned, along with the increasingly destructive effects of climate change already at our door, why is our federal government refusing to approve and construct HFR ASAP after close to 7 years of endlessly recurring analyses and studies?

Thank you! It was pretty sweet to see the new train. I cant wait to see it in service!
im gonna be honest, i had a definite feeling that they would come with K5CA-LS horns

Fortunately for fans like you, unfortunately for haters like me.
I sorta think of not like them because they replaced k3l's as a staple horn on canadian passenger trains

I’m sure that since so much was invested in upgrading and refurbishing the Canadian and it’s so iconic they will continue to run it

Montréal to
Ottawa
