@@subutaykhan9387In 1806 Kaiser Franz II abdicated his Holy Roman throne, remaining just the Austrian Kaiser but the throne was abdicated the empire wasn't dissolved
There is a perception that the Habsburgs were only about some lucky strokes of fate (aka three or four lucky marriages). But the reasons they were able to acquire and maintain their lands were actually quite complex. It was not only about building some legitimate claim or something that happened in just one generation. First, the HRE imperial lines were always a bit more international than the French or English royal lines. The Luxembourgs under Sigismund (the last male heir, who was not only Holy Roman Emperor but also the possessor of four royal crowns) already kept almost as much lands and crowns as the Habsburgs. Several emperors before them had kept three royal crowns at once. These previous ties created precedents (of accepting a king who was at the same time King of Germany and other lands) and connections. For example, Albert II of Habsburg (who was King of Hungary, Croatia, Bohemia, and Germany , as well as Duke of Austria) inherited the connections from Sigismund, whose only daughter married him. Unfortunately for the Habsburgs, he died quite young. In Maximilian I's time, while financial shortage prevented himself from claiming back Sigismund's and Albert's "heritage" immediately, he had already shared the legitimacy of calling himself King of Hungary with the Jagiellons ( and succeeded in building an 'overlord' standing for himself in the East, with backing from a large part of the native aristocracy). Secondly, Habsburg logistics (in the broader sense) were quite good. The Habsburgs succeeded in claiming their lands with: a new type of communication-diplomacy structure, a system of governorship that frequently utilized the female members, and at the beginning, a new model of war that emphasized the hired infantry. Those things arose from Maximilian I's reign (you can read his wiki article - it has quite a lot of information). Later they built a complex bureaucracy structure that was capable of handling a multiple-nation complex's businesses at once. Compare this with other Western (non-HRE) dynasties: The Capets and their branches actually got a lot of lands and crowns, but they never functioned as a close-knit alliance or managed to combine many crowns in just one person. Henry III of the Valois was at one point King of Poland and his brother at one point claimed the Netherlands with William of Orange's support, but in the end they had to choose France. Even Louis XIV's France and his grandson's Spain did not function as an alliance. If it had been all about legitimacy through marriage, it would have been Juana (the one they call "La Beltraneja", but nowadays generally agreed to be the legitimate heir) and her husband Afonso V sitting on the Spanish throne(s), not Juana (the so-called Juana the Mad) and Philip the Handsome. All in all, it was about getting accepted by the native ruling class and keeping the alliance function. English popular history sure loves to ridicule the Habsburgs. Sure, they produced some crazy, deformed monarches, but should they be reduced to a deformed jaw and their achievements only lucky marriages? Even the French, who were their long-term enemies, have never tried to do such things. The Spanish, the Belgians, the Dutch, the Austrians, the Germans, the Hungarians... while they might criticize the dynasty here and there, perceive other things too.\

As much as I like most of the video, it is regrettable, that it contains a very common error, which one would not have expected in a piece of otherwise good quality. Maria Theresia NEVER was "EMPRESS" of the Holy Roman Empire, at least she was not "crowned and annointed" empress. Her husband, Franz Stephan of Lorraine was. So basically she was "Mrs. Emperor". She only carried the other Habsburg hereditary titles Queen of Bohemia, Dalmatia, Croatia, Slavonia, Galicia, Lodomeria, etc.etc., Grand Duchess of Austria, Burgundy, Limburg, Luxembourg etc.etc.... right up to the (at the time somewhat contested) Infanta of Spain, Queen of France.... Of course that did not bother herself using "Empress of Austria" as a title once her husband had died. Thus, the Austrian branch of the House of Habsburg (in the then customary male succession rule) became "extinct" with the death of Maria Theresia's father, not with HER death. However, Austria being Austria, this did not perturb the descendants of Maria Theresia to carry on using the somewhat more "prestigeous" House of Habsburg-brand, rather than House of Lorraine (worthy though Lorraine surely was and is).

One of the things people have to realize is how underwhelming other dynasties are in comparison to the Habsburgs. The British literally beheaded their king in *1649.* By 1700, royal power was completely obliterated by Parliament. In essence, their monarch spent its existence grasping for power and failing so early in history. Meanwhile the Habsburgs were the architects of their global empire. Their royal will triumphed over their subjects’ defiance, while at the same time refusing to budge to hostile dynasties. They conquered the New World and dominated Europe because they could, and they did.
Everyone is descended from Noah so that doesn’t sound like much. I’d like to know how they trace from charlemagne though. Pretty cool that even Napoleon had to pick up one for empress.
A fine presentation. The Habsburgs ruled with moderation, granting autonomy to different regions. They did receive kingdoms through marriages instead of war. Charles V had the wisdom to divide his empire, and the Austrian Habsburgs then always ruled over a multi-ethnic state. They were the ones who defended Europe against the Turks. They were beat up by ruthlessly efficient royalist France and autocratic Prussia, but they encouraged a culturally rich society (think 19th-century Vienna). I marvel that the English royals get all the attention today, but the young Habsburg who would be heir to the throne is a successful Grand Prix driver. To me it seems that theirs is by far the more interesting family.
I like how these painters painted one face for all. The noses were always so long and the eyes bug like without lashes. How did they know which one were they in group paintings?😃
Overall this is well done, however, it would be nice to have the correct pronunciation of words like diet and piety. A quick Google search or dictionary look up could clarify the correct pronunciation of words throughout this video. When in doubt don't guess.
I don't guess ether ,but I'll tell you how I happened onto the Habsburgs. Someone was showing on the TV about the German kings and so on and there was pictures of on the walls of family that had the lower part of the faces out of shape you could say as I remember it, the jaw mostly .Than there's the time and I'm an [ English royal fan]that one of Victoria's daughters married into German royal family. I think we all know what happened to the Russian Royals, from the movie. and yes 2 of Victoria's daughter did marry first cousins, as did Victoria. At that time it was unknown about the problems of interbreeding.
I most say the Habsburg blood was and is strong to this day. I myself is descended from the family on my mother's side. The large lips and nose is prominent throughout my family not the chin though lol. I have to say in defense of the inbreeding is concerned, yes that did happen frequently but more towards the end of the reign. And furthermore most dynasties did marry and have children of close relatives. It was a way of keeping the blood pure. At the time the people didn't know the consequences of inbreeding could have, genetically. There were by far more marriages within the house of Habsburg with other countries to develop and expand land. I myself don't agree with alot of the things my ancestors have done. But all and all they were great leaders of a forgone past. With connections to Charlemagne, Rurik, Rollo, William Longsword, to name just a few who changed the face of Europe sometimes for the worse but mostly for the better
If you look their family tree, they all atleast 2 or 3 degree ATLEAST Not to mention that 99% of the family portraits they all share the same inbreeding characteristics ( Chin the most noticeable part) BUT NO UNIQUE facial traits. They all look like a copypaste of each other, only to be worse as far as it continues
The Spanish Armada never called "invincible" that name was put for british...in fact the real name of the Armada was "Grande y felicisima" or "Great and Very happy Armada". And, so they will be again... Not that they aren't already.....
The last Habsburg emperor was Charles I. (abdicated in 1918), not Franz Josef I. (died in 1916).

Yeh. I wasn't ready. I didn't know it was a competition.

The Hapsburg brand is so strong 💪 most books seem to gloss over Lorraine.
Greetings see u in history I know many hindu mythology stories if u want me to tell it to u then plz reply me
Yes
Ottoman-Habsburg Wars
So much noise from the unnecessary background music I can't think straight.
I waiting for this....
Well said, people tend to forgot that people 500 or so years ago didn’t know the results of inbreeding, and thus thought it was normal at first
@@r32guy85 doesn’t change the mindfuck family tree 😂
If you look their family tree, they all atleast 2 or 3 degree ATLEAST
Not to mention that 99% of the family portraits they all share the same inbreeding characteristics ( Chin the most noticeable part) BUT NO UNIQUE facial traits.
They all look like a copypaste of each other, only to be worse as far as it continues
Keeping the blood pure. What a joke.
The music is irritating
Great Video
Very interesting.
Video spoiled by not being able to pronounce countries properly. Where is Siprus?
6:30 kind of looks like the spider man meem (misspelled on purpose)
Could you do the American Revolutionary War or World War II
18:18 ?
Can someone PLEASE give me the name of this tune for the background music???
Bit late, but it should be Prokofiev's Dance of the knights
The Spanish Armada never called "invincible" that name was put for british...in fact the real name of the Armada was "Grande y felicisima" or "Great and Very happy Armada". And that doesn't have the impact in Spanish economy that English think, was just one battle in a war which Spain won en earlier 1600s
The defeat of the Spanish Armada was a major turning point in military history. Get over it.
@@zico739 jajaja de hecho no significó nada la verdadera derrota se dió en Trafalgar, pero así es todo imperio cae un ejemplo ahora Estados Unidos en decadencia y china está dominando el mundo
felicisima haha do not say very happy in english for armada.. say Celebratory :+)

The Habsburgs had the finest imperial court of Europe, thats why the British monarchs are always a little jealous. And for that you never hear anything about the Habsburgs in history
Franz Joseph was not the last emperor
What about the merovingians
Você é Brasileiro?? Já que vc disse “nosso” Pedro II

Oh mighty Habsburg Empire,
A realm so grand and vast,
Your rule and reign did surely impend,
With power that outlasted.
From Vienna's halls of splendor,
To Prague's towering spires,
Your cities' beauty and wonder,
Inspired all who did admire.
With might and diplomacy blended,
You brought order to the land,
Defending all from foes intended,
By strength of sword and hand.
Your art and culture flourished,
Music echoed through the years,
The great works of your kingdom,
Still bring joy to eyes and ears.
From east to west, your kingdom spanned,
With peoples of diverse faith,
Yet you did lead with gentle hand,
In unity and grace.
Your legacy remains a treasure,
For all to learn and see,
Of how a great and noble empire,
Can bring prosperity.
Oh Habsburg Empire, we do sing,
Of your grandeur and your might,
In memories and history,
Your reign shall live in light.
The Capetiens are the greatest royal dynasty in Europe.
In terms of military, politics, diplomacy, culture, etc. both in Europe and in the world.
That’s debatable. As far as Europe goes, it’s usually between them and the Habsburgs.
@@zico739 the Capetiens ruled more countries, for a longer time than any hasbourg.
the Capetiens (therefore France) have created the modern nation state; the hasbourg nothing.
that's why the capetien monarchy was the template for all monarchies in europe.
Also, the Capetiens were the only nation royal house in Europe.
other monarchies in europe were ruled by foreign house.
Italy, Spain, Portugal, england, Denmark, Sweden, etc.
@@lecapetien3223 why are you fanboying so hard in many comments over some house that today has no actual power? Smh.
