    I stick a fat rubber piece I cut from scrap just under the firing pin. I do the pencil test and if it doesn't move up, it's good to go for my training session. If it does, I need a new rubber piece. Also reduces stress on the hammer. I do the same thing in my revolvers. Removed with a small screwdriver when I'm done.

    7:39 I have read elsewhere on UA-cam that the "O" ring size to get is #83. Thank you for your videos which are very helpful.

    Instead of the oring I use an earplug, but I think these "free" solutions are better than snap caps

    Thanks for the video. My friends sp01 orange has the plate on the back of the slide like the shadow 2. Love those aspirated grips!

    • @czarmorer
      @czarmorer  9 місяців тому +1

      If it has the plate on the back then it doesn't have the counter roll pin to hold the firing pin in place, and therefore is safe to dry fire as much as he wants with no expected issue.

    Not directly related but first time I’ve ever broken a firing pin was from my beretta cheetah… was a very sad day. Learned my lesson.

      I've broken a couple FPs too - but only the aftermarket extended ones. I've never had a CZ OEM one break on me - And I use 26lb main springs on my Czechmates :)

    According to CZ they harden the firing pin retaining pin and I wouldn't dry fire without a snap cap I have extra pins on hand in case, have fired 1000 rounds through my CZ P-07 and dry firing with the newer pin. Noticed no abnormal wear on the firing pin retaining pin.

    Or you can just get an AZoom Strikercap (rimless snapcap) which doesn't get ejected each time. You can use a chopstick to pop it out when you are done.

    I only use snap caps No O ring. I dry fired my cz shadow 2 500 times before hitting the range to get used to it and smooth out the double action a bit

      @@czarmorer i got a 10 round mag for shadow 2. It says 15 on it and is closed on just 10 rounds. Is it possible to make ot 15 ?

    • @czarmorer
      @czarmorer  4 місяці тому +1

      @@saudalblaihed3925 if you have one of those mags that were "staked" to create a limit at 10 rounds by preventing the follower to keep going down beyond that, then I guess you can simply remove the bump (file it) in both sides inside the mag, and the follower will be free to go down all the way to the bottom. Just keep in mind that if you're located in one of the low-cap restriction states, this would be considered tempering and breaking the law - so I would do it if that's the case.

    Awesome video! What about a Jericho 941 or Tanfos? My Jericho has both a firing pin block safety and a plate that holds back the firing pin.

  • @tomarmstrong4761

    My CZ P07 came with a snap cap, and the manual specified that dry firing was best done with that snap cap or a commercially-available alternative in the chamber.
    Snap caps are easy enough for me to obtain, and they *might* reduce the chances that dry-firing would harm my pistol, so I'll use them for my home practicing.
    Do I absolutely need snap caps? Maybe, maybe not, but I'll use them for my DA/SA pistols. My striker pistols? Maybe not, maybe so, depending on what I'm teaching myself.

    I'm not buying that CZ added roll pins to make the product better. Seems like a cost cutting measure.

    • @czarmorer
      @czarmorer  9 місяців тому +1

      If you're talking about the firing pin counter roll pin, that wasn't actually added to it - this is actually the original CZ-75 design. The CZs which don't have that roll pin came after, and are mostly competition oriented models such as the Shadow (1&2) and/or the TS series (TS, TSO, TS2, Czechmate etc), which are not equipped with a firing pin block.

    What is the exact size of the O ring you suggest? Neat idea👍🏻

    • @czarmorer
      @czarmorer  10 місяців тому +4

      I can measure for you, basically anything that has a snug fit around the end of firing pin will work. You will know when the hammer is hitting the rubber as opposed to the FP as it sounds different when it does :)

      I have read elsewhere on UA-cam that it is #83 "O" ring.

  • @WV591

    why is this even a concern. only guns that shouldn't be dry fired are guns that use rimfire ammo. because the pin is striking the side of the chamber and can be damaged but even those can stand lotta dry fire abuse.

    • @czarmorer
      @czarmorer  7 місяців тому +1

      actually, as I mentioned, you shouldn't dry fire your non-22LR guns that have a counter pin locking the firing pin in place. Not without any protection at least. Or it will damage your firing pin - I've fixed a few SP-01s and CZ-75s broken like that.

  • @super1million11

    I'm a don't dry fire type. The only time I do is when it's a gun that you have to dry fire to decock.

    • @czarmorer
      @czarmorer  9 місяців тому +5

      Dry firing is part of the practice routine of any serious competitive shooter though.

    • @super1million11

      @czarmorer I know dry fire is a common practice. Unless I'm using a snapcap, I try not to dry fire.
