It was his reaction when Buzz slashed his tires at Griffith Park Observatory. So, some of this was a lookalike actor, some was computer composite. Brilliant, seamlessly put together!

There's something eerie about this commercial and thinking about what might have been. I could easily see Dean transitioning into a career of directing- he and Nick Ray were planning to set up their own production company. Would he have been an anti-war activist? Then again, he was a rebel.....
It seems likely that Jimmy would have opposed the Vietnam War, since he was raised as a Quaker. Most biographers believe that he avoided the draft due to his poor eyesight and/or as a conscientious objector (pacifist).

I looked up this commercial because I just learned James Dean has been "cast" in a new movie that will use a combination of lookalikes and archival footage the same way this did. It brings up a lot of ethical questions and it's just kind of uncanny and weird. People seemed to like this commercial, but this was about Dean himself and the movie will be a CGI version of him playing a fictional character. I wonder if it'll be received as warmly?

The lookalike actor is named Des Erasmus who is a mechanic from Cape Town South Africa. He took acting classes to get the mannerisms just right.
