Agree. Mechanic that make that much mess and cannot diagnose a simple issue are not properly trained mechanics, they are taking vulnerable people for a ride
Absolutely they should know what they are doing BEFORE they pull it all apart when it’s not required. They don’t know what they should know. The reason is inexperience. They are not familiar with this situation, not their fault. In dealerships knowledge is not passed on from senior tradies to apprentices as they are used for basic stuff like oil changes-cheap labour and therefore they learn nothing. Businesses only do the bare minimum training (which I understand as they are after maximum profit) hence why I avoid stealerships like the plague. I try to do as much as I can anyway. Apprentices trained by small businesses generally are better trained as they get a greater diversity of training skills on a greater range of issues and more makes.
I suppose if you do your research and are careful who you let work on your vehicle you can expect them to diagnose the issue easily, however, in my experience, non dealership workshops don't specialise on a particular engine so apply the same basic diagnostic strategy to all makes and models. Only the educated people will have the knowledge to diagnose a cracked piston.
The electrics on the battery wiring is typical of most. [lazy accessory fitter or lazy electrician ] . A bus bar or power post tidies all that up 100% If your gunna be the one to take the battery out u never gunna leave that wiring mess .
I guess it’s hard coz you don’t know the story.. the customer could have rolled up to the other workshop right before Christmas or knock off.. they might have been told what was wrong and what to check for? Once they got into it realised they just couldn’t sort it once they found the issue. Granted I’d never send something out in pieces but we just don’t know what happened between the customer and shop.. alternatively they could just be rubbish!
Whoever worked on this vehicle cannot be serious calling themselves a mechanic. Are you sure the owner didn’t get a mate of his to have a look at it before he sent it to you ?

Yes I think you are too fussy. But fussy is good, that's how I like to roll. Good video thumbs up.
That's why I am coming to you Anthony....... not all "mechanics" have your expertise and knowledge .Ian

This is piss poor performance by the first mechanic.
