i thought the same thing, all musicians are insanely talented but i find the drums and bass to be absolutely spot on, subtle, no show off, just beautiful -
You kidding me? Is groove is insane....I started out as a bass player and still love harmony. It's class act how he keeps it tight and glues everyone, as a guitar player marks playing is insane but to me Bob stole the show, his well timed and dynamics pierces your soul and decapitates your head.....
This song is my spirit animal. This is so in the pocket - absolute perfection. Bob is bringing saxy back. Mark is on another planet. Rhythm section is fire.
I came for the sax and I was happily surprised by this great player that keeps it mostly simple , melodic, has an incredible groove and certainly can take it out and stretch it too
If you're a fan of tight drummers, (and haven't heard) these guys have father time on the beats. ua-cam.com/video/q4xKvHANqjk/v-deo.html (as well as the song 'Friday morning' in this same set will make you think this guy has a metronome in his brain.)
Kudos to the guitar soloist for not opening it up too much. Kept it clean and sexy the whole way. When guys go wide open on this type of genre it can kill the mood. Leave space, less is more. This was awesome. Thanks UA-cam for recommending this video. I'm going to go head-first down a rabbit hole now, thanks to these gentlemen.
Apart from the fantastic music somebody should nominate the guys who filmed this for an Oscar. Brilliant unobtrusive filming that enhances a great performance.
What an insanely perfect way to end this series. Mark's solo is one of the best things I've heard. Ever... And the tone, and the exceptional recording! There has to be some magic room mic fairy in the room. Amazing!
i think same as you. beautiful song and band! a master piece!. the room have awesome, awsome acoustic, the drummer barely touches the cymbal and sounds very very clear and clean ! ( sorry for my english! jaja)
Not necessarily treated. I've seen the wonders that a great filed recording artist can make, my dad been in the business for over 30 years... Things had to be EQ'd out (like the two guys talking at the beginning) but they worked the room by bringing all the people real close - great trick, our bodies's mass work wonders! Man I heard nature footage with wind and cars and all kind of shit coming clean and rich after 100% manual EQ no de-esser...
Found this completely by accident. It is unfathomable to me that anyone who claims to like music could dislike this video. Taste and jams all wrapped into a supremely executed package. What great players.
I really feel like the drummer needs credit just for the pressure of everyone there relying on him to keep perfect time and he does it like a human metronome
Love the fact that the world's most perfect guitar solo includes every guitarist's nightmare where you hit the pedal for more dirt and ruin the effect by losing too much volume. And still perfect!
" I’d played with each of these guys in different scenarios, but never as a unit. So we set up in a circle, surrounded by an audience and five cameras, and played these tunes together for the first time. No pressure!"
I've listened to and watched this performance way more times than I can count...and there has yet to be even a sliver of a shadow of a hint that I might ever tire of it.
mind blowing track! Ironically enough, the guy standing back playing subtle quarter notes most of the time is the craziest player of the whole bunch!!! (Nir Felder)
brilliant musicians, no doubts!! many people say about how good sax and guitar are and I totally agree. But just want to say that bass guitar here is very simple, not overplayed and damn tasty.
Damn nasty.... making me sick😷....btw drummer was awesome with control and timely fills...ahhhhhhh it’s freaking awesome 👏🏾 job well done Sir Reynolds and accompanying band mates
Came here for the absolutely top-notch players, but can we take a moment to appreciate the audio engineers responsible for recording and mixing? My GOD this is one of the most effortless mixes I've ever heard.
This is Organic Jazz - smooth, progressive and well-constructed. Bob uses patience and skill to tailor a wonderfully cohesive solo which climaxes itself into a magna-laude flurry of excellent brilliance.
The musical interaction between Bob and Mark at 3:32 gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. A great example of how to pay attention to your fellow musicians and react on their ideas, build upon them.
Carlos the man! I know this is an old comment but please keep up the awesome work. I’ve been listening in for almost 4 years now and really appreciate your music.
When I first listened tot this song almost instantly I felt a connection like hearing from an old friend after a longtime. Me and this tune just resonate. This tune is so good and I thought they don't make music like this anymore. Much respect for the talent in that room.
This is so phenomenal. I literally watch this 3-5 times a day. I heard you guys never played these tunes together before this. Incredible. Mark's tone and phrasing are simply perfect.
@@bobreynolds Odd technical question (specific to Mark's guitar sound): is the reverb on this guitar the actual room (looks like it is a live room) or something he is adding in? Comparing it to your sax sound, it seems like the latter, but I'm not sure. It is SOOOO good. Also, a group I'm playing with is planning on covering this tune. Do we owe you royalties? :)
When a guitarist like Mark came along.....he brought the 'big wave' that swipped off all other new gen guitarist like Guthrie, Andy Wood, Tom Quayle, Jack Rhammarat and etc. Mike is truly a guitarist's guitarist! Hats off toMark and the rest of the superb band members.
I've just discovered this amazing piece! What a band! 🤩 I feel like that uncle who didn't come to see a newborn baby.. for five years! But now I'm here, on your 5th birthday, and I'll never leave you, kid ❤
You're very welcome! I've listened to this at least 10 times so far. I randomly came across it from a "suggested" Facebook post. I've shared it with a bunch of friends too!
Mark Fcking Lettieri. He's on a league of his own. holy moly, that was sick. I must admet that i never liked guitar as instrument, but this guy reedems it. Thats how a strat must sound
If you liked him try Adam Rogers or Wayne Krantz. Theres an album by Chris Potter called Ultrahang, which showcases such a strat sound wonderfully. Happy holidays!
One of the most beautiful jazz performances and bass rhythms I have ever heard. This was a great performance and I really got into hearing Kaveh Rastegar play his bass. I think these guys just made musical history.
That guitar solo is out of this world ! And the groove and sound of everyone is just as much. I'm amazed with the perfection of the material the jazz musicians and recording engineers can bring to us nowadays...
Stumpled upon this by accident, but this is the best 13 minutes of music I've heard in MANY years. The tone, the nuance, the subtleties, the stories. Each musician creates a universe of pure magic and together it's just out of this world! I will be listening to this for years to come and I'm sure I'll keep discovering new details and nuances! Thank you so much for this!
Kaveh and Sput so much in the pocket I'm not even able to put it in words how much I'm feeling it. Dear lord you guys have groove for d a y s !!! I hope one day to be able to play at this level of groove because it seems so damn fun :D
Oh my goodness! Where did this wonderful sound come from?!?!?!!?! I just stumbled onto this track/Group and there is SOOO much here to hear! Bob Reynolds' sax has sparked flash backs of "Low Spark of High Heeled Boys", and first time hearing the wonderful tone and mastery of Mark Lettieri....getting some Jeff Beck (RIP!) feel, too! Couldn't have come upon this at a better time in my life, thank you!!!
+bob Reynolds, thank you for playing this masterpiece. I listen to this everyday on my drive to work and school. Always puts me in the right mood. Best, Ryan G
6:27 ! Im gonna tell you, whats Mark talking about...... Midwest desert, a scarred route of unknown number with potholes and those typical yellow lines wandering through sand and rolling bushes.....all the way until we enter some forgotten town, several plywood houses standing along the main road, rusty paint-peeled pickup left alone at the 60s gas station. A motel and Jerry´s motorest with those red leather coaches, standing by the only crossing in town.... An old stoplight swingin in the wind and finally Mark with his guitar, leaning on a telegraph pole and slowly getting to the 8:11 , to rock the shit out of us and finish the tale of the american desert blues. .... Ive never been to America, thats just the pure magic of music, these guys produced here. They are not playing their instruments, they are being their instruments. Fantastic.
Bob Reynolds is a man who knows how to wait for a note.
All of the musicians in this band do. They're a tasteful bunch of mofos.
Eric Garland but it seems he can't wait for perfect
i think that he doesnt wait, he's making us wait
Yiu it's all about the personal experience
sure man
Video games don't make people violent, but giving me an ad so close to the climax of that solo might...

Belac Ickekl Doesn’t really work
For sure an ill timed ad. But hey, gotta make money I suppose. They are undervalued musicians.
Errr like Google are short of money?
@@jas_bataille I've got adblock plus on Chrome, and I never see any invasive ads on youtube

The smiling man from the crowd who just can't stop movin' his head, that man represents me.
I thought the same thing my dude. I wouldn’t be able to stop.
Mark Lettieri is the man!
I'm agree! ...and I love his guitar strap too! :)
Any idea what amp he's using there?
Some sort of Morgan amp. Possibly one of the SW amps? Sounds like a pretty American clean.
Danny James looks like a Morgan PR12
Thanks, appreciate it!
How Mark Letteiri has the restraint to not immediately whip it out after a solo like that is beyond me.
He probably viewed it as a waste of energy seen as they were all already pregnant
kudos to the bass player for making the group shine, I'm a fan of bass solos but it's great when a bass player can keep it simple and in the pocket.
+Michael Mchenry amen
you cant hold no groove if you aint got no pocket
i thought the same thing, all musicians are insanely talented but i find the drums and bass to be absolutely spot on, subtle, no show off, just beautiful -
Yeah, definitely so! It's there right from the beginning and you're immediately sensing it more than you consciously notice it.
You kidding me? Is groove is insane....I started out as a bass player and still love harmony. It's class act how he keeps it tight and glues everyone, as a guitar player marks playing is insane but to me Bob stole the show, his well timed and dynamics pierces your soul and decapitates your head.....
The bass guy is an unsung hero.
This is what happens when the players love the music more than showing off. All the good things...
How can you listen to this live and SIT STILL! This audience needs to let their soul wake up...
They were probably afraid they would spill their drinks 🤦♀
Why am I just finding this now?? This is so good!
Each of them are at MAESTRO level of their instruments AND great musicians!
Bob Reynolds is a man who knows he can wait for the perfect note.
This song is my spirit animal. This is so in the pocket - absolute perfection. Bob is bringing saxy back. Mark is on another planet. Rhythm section is fire.

5:40 to 10:00 minutes. Mark is on fire here! Few solos have ever made me this happy.

It's been almost 10 years, and I still can't get over how good this song its.
Drummer is like a human click track. He makes the whole thing go round. Everyone is very talented in this band, but to me, the drummer is supreme.

How can these musicians be so talented and yet so restrained 😮
That’s what makes them extra-talented! :)
Mark’s articulation, phrasing, timing is on a boss level!!!
This is so good it resets what "so good" is.

spent an hour soloing over this on my strat, groove level 9000
John Mayer would slot in just right with these guys.
He did instagram.com/p/BbPY0qUn4HE/?igshid=9ho8fsnw1d64
No because his big ego would ruin the entire thing and John would have to have some screaming lead solo over everything.
Thanks, I def needed this today.
