I went to art school. A private art school. The teachers lectures didn't go into half as much detail as you have, and I like the way you choose to utilize a color wheel to express, in conjunction, the reason for using a colors hue with strict attention paid to color theory. Your teaching style is one of the most comprehensive to be sure.
I agree!
I almost never leave comments on the videos I’ve watched, but feel I must for this one. Thank you for making such an enjoyable and educational tutorial. Your enthusiasm and technique are leave a great “impression”.
instablaster...
Watching this guy paint makes me appreciate Monet a whole lot more.
An educational bob ross
hmm it was great.... but that American aspect to it all, im not sure he hit the mark
he needs to squint more...
This instruction is brilliant easy to understand. Love the history tidbits!
Extraordinary instruction. I could do his workshops all day.

The finest painting lesson I have have seen so far. Thank you!
I first saw Monet at the RI School of Design Museum in Providence in the 60's. Would take the train to Boston Museum of Fine Arts which had even more and sit there for hours looking at them, trying to understand how Monet did it. Monet is the reason I became a painter and am still painting, in my 70's, and continually look to his images for guidance. I was working on a piece just today and took a quick look at one of the Haystack Series for help. His atmosphere and light qualities are untouched by anyone else. He was also incredibly prolific. One of my first heroes. Last year my son and I were at the Chicago Art Institute. We turned a corner and there was a room full of Monets. It was like coming home. Thank you for this video.
I visited Paris so many years ago and lost myself in the museums. Spent days in the Musee d'Orsay... in awe of this painter's work.
I’m watching this in 2023 and have watched countless videos learning about painting and color. This one is the best explanation with examples I have seen 😊 1000 likes to you and thank you for sharing your experience ❤
Thank you, Lilith! Connie Simmons and I were happy to create these programs in connection with the National Gallery and are happy that they are still being viewed. Good luck with your painting! Best, Connie and David
I agree!
David Dunlop does a terrific job here of explaining how Monet created his magic, and turning out very cool work of his own.
The style of Monets’ painting is fast and free and full of energy.
It seems to show me the air of the garden with its sense of light, and I can imagine the dense smells of many flowers and plants Blooming into my life.
Yes and seeing his work in person takes your breath away!
Thank you for being so generous with your in-depth knowledge, the endless tips, and explaining why each step was done in a painting by the artist, etc. I'm looking forward to your online workshops in September!
"that's the universe, life out of chaos"
damn you really took it there I appreciate it
So lucid so clear.. so touching.. the master Comes Alive.
When I went to Monet’s garden, I was surprised how much the actual water lilies looked like his paintings.
How to draw like Monet mostly ends up to a hilarious painting, but here, it delivers in a beautiful way. THANK YOU.
Your descriptions of Monet’s technique are really clear, thank you
I was surprised how the elements of your painting shifted my perception of the motif just to land me right back in the "real" world. I would have gone the wrong way about it completely, had I attempted this. Thank you for sharing.
I adore this video on so many levels. It became a comfort video for me.
Beautiful. You took me back in Time to the mind of Monet.
David Dunlop really gives some great info on art techniques!
Thanks for mentioning his name, appreciate it
@@Bobasso You're very welcome.
I like your blend of passion and humility. I am just starting to paint and to understand impressionism so your presentation here has been a real bonus. Thank you so much.
looks so peaceful, the scenery and birds chirping. thank you
And this painting style allows a very dreamy, vibrational feeling of light dancing -
Always learn lots from this gentleman and watching him paint is like watching poetry in motion
Thanks for these valuable insights into the exactly technique of Monet. Short and sweet with a painting that makes it complete.

You, Sir, are a phenomenal teacher! Thank you!

I don’t need to squint I just don’t put my glasses on. Thank you for the great tips!
Good idea for a near-sighted like me.
Literally same. I paint without my glasses and I wear bifocals
I love your teaching style! It’s info packed! You give REASON to what you are instructing. I love it.
That is so cool! After doing a lot of research about Monet, its fascinating to learn and dive into his actual painting processes! The thing he consumed his life enjoying!
EXCELLENT and INSPIRING: a real glimpse and insight into the spectrum of Monet's technique: I believe you have unravelled several facinating ideas which will enable painters to explore the depths of Monet's work. Please continue to share your views and excellent talent for painting and explaining. This is a wonderful insight. Thank you.
Wow! You packed so much information and excitement into short tutorial. Thoroughly informative and entertaining.
I enjoyed watching this. With expressionism it is hard to realize how something so lovely comes out of it.👏👏
Thank you! Your explanation of how Monet painted the Lillies makes a mountain of sense.. I enjoyed it thoroughly ! Keep teaching my friend.
Wow what an exquisite painting! Love it.
I enjoyed this video so much. I spent last year painting impressionist landscapes in Chicago's parks, and using Monet's techniques in mind helped me create some beautiful pieces.
Love the way you explained the brush strokes. Thank you!
I love you Mr Claude Monet, with all my being! 💜
Thank you for all the great advice. And the Beautiful painting.
J'aime le 'squinting' technique. Il est un grand exercise de minimiser la rive droit de notre cerveux. Bravo.
Wow it’s lovely, the painting, the process, everything just perfect the way it is. I’ve enjoyed every single step of it! Thank you 🙏 🌸
What a incredibly magical, beautiful place. How lucky for you that you could paint there. Monet is one of my favorite painters from way back then in fact at this moment and for the last 30 years are 3 Monet paintings hanging in my bedroom, one of which is the pond expression. Van Gogh is also a favorite, I just really love these types of paintings.
☮️🙏💜

I have been to Giverny several times and his house and garden are stunning. I'm planning on painting this view from a series of pictures I took while there. Your video has been very helpful in my
thought process. Very well described. You really know what you are talking about.
This was so enjoyable to watch and great information on how to paint Monet style. Thank you.

U r a genius with colors and I love your technique
Wow! Really excellent demonstration and clear explanation.
That was so good! I just saw Mobet the Late Years at the Kimbell in Ft. Worth. I saw the painting you yoy showed a slide of. The use of horizontal and vertical brushwork and deliberate circles for the lilies...well it was so Beautiful you could tear up. You really captured so much of what moved me! Good Job!
Enjoyed and learned so much!
I learned a lot from this short video. Excellent teacher!
Some hints for my fellow painters. Gamblin makes a resin-based oil paint; it is an alkyd and line is called FastMatte. It dries in about 18 hours unless you have heavy impasto. In that case, give it an extra day.
Wonderful explanation and demonstration, soothing voice and nice music - will be watching more of your vids.
beautiful
This opened my eyes wide as a painter!
You've helped me so much!! ! Thanks for the inspiration
Amazing
I really enjoyed your video, and I love your painting!! Thank you!
Amazing!
Brilliant lesson ..... triggered the thought of taking up painting! Thanks!!
Some good instruction on colour theory and colour interaction as well as some brush techniques.
I'll be honest, I thought it was a mess at the beginning and it was looking like there was no direction but by the end it was beautiful and insightful.
Sus pinturas transmitían Paz, que bien juega usted con los colores, se aprende rápido con esas técnicas, con dos pinceladas se pasa d un motivo a otro hermoso
Thank you so much for your example. It is very good!
Fabulous. Thanks 🙏
This was inspiring. Thank you.
I enjoyed this, immensely! Thank you!
Awesome demo.
These tips are actually extremely useful and high level, hopefully people actually remember them and comprehend it
