It's interesting to see that the developers took lots of care with the tyres: the surface turns green when on grass, and you can see the brake turn red when you brake.
For those wondering, Jacques Villeneuve wasn't used because he had already copyrighted the use of his likeness (the same thing happened for the previous game). However it's certainly awkward that the technically defending champion wasn't in the game.
F1 '97 was so so good. I remember being 14 years old and so excited for F1 '98. I got it on release day and I've yet to be more disappointed and gutted over practically anything, ever!
Jacques Villeneuve copyrighted his name and face for some reason so he isn't in this game (or F1 97) Also this game wasn't released in arcades to my knowledge
The day my dad bought my brother and I a PS1 my brother insisted on buying this game. I played it a bit and always thought it was crap. Was confirmed when I hired F1 97 from the local video store and saw it was a 1000x better. Honestly looks like 80% of their budget went into Murray's voice and a further 19.99% went into the opening video.
How can you say the worst game if you probably were not from that era… this was such a good game, surely part of our childhood, only few can understand it… lovely
Hilariously, the not Villeneuve was used for cheat codes in the N64 F1 games. Which was hilariously awesome, really. I was hoping Arrava would play the N64 F1 games at some point, though...
@@mattiacisternino2402 JV controlled his own licensing while the rest had it controlled by FOM for video game licensing. IIRC JV had already signed a deal to license his likeness to another publisher at the time so that's why he wasn't featured in the game (nor in F1 97)
I got this game for my 12th birthday in early 1999. Played the shit out of it for a long time. My first ever console racing game. Had no idea it was a bad game lol.
It's well known that Jacques Villeneuve had his name protected and needs another licence apart from the F1 licence to use his name. Grand Prix Manager 1 and 2 also were not licenced to use his name.
For anyone wondering why this game was so bad, they only had 6 months to build it from the ground and get it out, as the previous developers, Bizarre Creations, pulled out at the last moment, so they essentially had to rush and bodge a game together
He’s done it already… I’m not sure if it was Aarava but I think it was him… that game was awesome! I still had it until a few months ago, when I moved to a new house, and still played it regularly… hopefully I’ll find it again, but if I don’t, I’ll buy it online again! I love that game!
I think it was something to do with Villeneuve not being a member of the GPDA so games would have had to sign a separate licencing agreement with him to have him in the game.
i loved this game it was the 1st game i had on the PlayStation for back in the day it was good, and you just not good enough if you can't handle it coz bk in 98 when i was 14 i could drive this just fine, btw you sound kinda up yourself in this video normally your better then this.
What I’m finding hilarious is the fact that the developers haven’t even bothered to design the wheel rims and have just stuck a texture on a plain cylinder lmaoo
I remember going to my local game rental place and asking for a game by the code they used to catalogue them. I gave them our customer code by accident and they went to get the first Croc game, and I had to correct them. I wanted to rent this game instead.
After F1 and F1 97 I was so excited for this game. Turned out to be such a let down but I still have a soft spot for it as the 98 season is my favourite to date and it’s nice to have a go on every now and then just for the nostalgia as I was 14 when it came out.
It's interesting to see that the developers took lots of care with the tyres: the surface turns green when on grass, and you can see the brake turn red when you brake.
true lol
And then there's the car itself😂
Bizarre Creations did that with Formula 1 and F1 97, only they got the textures better
For those wondering, Jacques Villeneuve wasn't used because he had already copyrighted the use of his likeness (the same thing happened for the previous game). However it's certainly awkward that the technically defending champion wasn't in the game.
But why is he outer Mongolian here despite having correct information about Villeneuve
such a Villeneuve moment
Nerd 🤓🧐
It has Murray Walker *at least* . And yes, they couldn't include Villeneuve because he copyrighted his image and name.
I doubt anyone wants his name and image now
It also happened with the Microprose games - he's the much more obvious-sounding John Newhouse. Why not JACK Newhouse, I dunno...
F1 '97 was so so good. I remember being 14 years old and so excited for F1 '98. I got it on release day and I've yet to be more disappointed and gutted over practically anything, ever!
It was horrific
aarava: "the worst F1 game"

F1 2007: waguan g

Still awful though.

Or F1 World Grand Prix 1/2 on the N64, and GP3, and...you get the idea. Hilariously he showed up with Jock Clear in his own game of all things..
He appeared as "John Newhouse" in some games !
Who is the staff team member of this game that decided that they should make JV's replacement to come from Outer Mongolia? XD
did you see that his "worst moment" was when his car broke in 2 at Halifax in 1994?
Maybe for "utter mongoloid" since they were salty he didn't waive his copyright?
@@doylerudolph7965 The Mongolian Identity Association is going to come after you now that you have said the m-word! (Max knows)
This game was an astonishing waste of plastic.
Try "Grand Prix 2
" (1995). It's still popular in retrogaming community, and it has an assistances for rookies
Big man, Why would Aarav need the assistance for rookie drivers turned on?
@@MattiosUK because he's aarav
And the classic intro of this game

hey, no, don't diss 2009 like that XD
that game was great
f1 2009 can have an excuse, because theres really only so much you can do with a wii and psp together
F1 2014 typing.....
2014 😭😭😭
Game: F1 98
UA-cam: Yeah, looks like F1 2020 all right.
it just randomly appeared in my recommended too
We need an episode of F1 Championship Edition
This was the game of my childhood...
Actually got me interested in f1
Compare this to f1 2021, it shows how far in tech we’ve come.
Just shows how good Bizarre Creations did with F1 and F1 '97
This is why I got F1 97 as my first PS1 game instead of 98 despite getting the console Xmas of 98 and watching Hakkinen win in Japan that year.
How can you say the worst game if you probably were not from that era… this was such a good game, surely part of our childhood, only few can understand it… lovely

F1 1998 was the first F1 game I ever had. I loved it and played the hell out of it but I can't see me ever being able to be good on it again.
6:05 Schumacher unheard team radio, Spa 1998

Oh look Aarava has already recovered from the spiciness
You have to remember, this game was on the original Playstation.
You should try the Geoff Crammond Grand Prix games
Yes! GP3 was my first ever f1 game and I still love it.

When this game was released, I had good expectations cause F1 97.
But unfortunately, the best thing about this game is the intro.
This was better than Verstappens winning overtake
Agreed
Not a Lewis fan btw
I love this games background music
I loved this game. Played it soooo much.
Also Jacques may not be in the game, however, if you go to 10:22 there is his helmet in a Stewart for some reason!?
Loved this game on PS1 as a kid
As a doctor who fan, what he said about the intro is very true
The brakes does glow when they get hot on the modern f1 games
It's just visual though not an impact
Lmao the defending champion Villenueve couldn’t even be in the game
Monaco would be a lot more exciting IRL if it was as wide as in this game XD
It's well known that Jacques Villeneuve had his name protected and needs another licence apart from the F1 licence to use his name. Grand Prix Manager 1 and 2 also were not licenced to use his name.
Literally a go-kart sized car on a full size F1 track! They tried at least 🤣🤣

If you properly mastered this game you could drive the Brazilian GP in about 1.01 or 1.02 ;)
the intro to this game looks like an acid trip
And I still remember to this day when Playstation Magazine gave it more than 90 in score and they corrected it years later in an F1 game special...

They didn't have the rights to use Jacques name in the 98 game.
yep, he didn't want to be a part of it and refused to give them the rights
Are you having to use the D-Pad to turn? I don't remember if this was before the analog era or not.
Can't wait for him to see F1 2001's (Studio Liverpool) intro and menu
villeneuve didn't want to be in this game for some reason, same for F1 1997 i think
JV's face was so high definition that it was to big for the game
Weirdly the only f1 games i have are 2019 and '98

Aarava is playing Arcade Race in F1 98.

The crazy thing is..
UA-cam's automated game system bot thinks this is F1 2020. No clue why.
i still got the very first 2D arcade style formula 1 game on ps1
this is why I want an arcade machine laughing 🤣😂
Same issue on the N64 f1 game, villeneuve owned the rights to his own name/appearance from his time in indy so they wouldnt pay the dollar.
Me in 1998 was hoping that this would be good so badly
Firstname Lastname has a new rival
F1 Pole Position 64 anyone? No, just me suffering playing that? Well...

EA to Codemasters: F1 1998 doesn’t exist, it can’t hurt you...
Aarav:
The spinning 3d car models look like the hungry caterpillar
Villeneuve didn't allowed FOM to use his name or likeness in f1 97 either.
