The youngest person to write a book was 4 sooo... You can be any age to write a book. Im right now writing a book on wattpad call finding the lost crystal at 9. still impressive
To be honest, the lack of amplification actually makes the scene more heartbreaking. The kids were 9 and 7 then, what did they know about death? They were confused, their thoughts blurred their innocent, youthful minds.
I’m “writing a book” at the moment and like most writers, i cringe at my old writing lol. I have trouble keeping with one story. Any advice? Also, it wasn’t terrible, especially at the age you were writing at. I’m 12 and I definitely need to improve lol

I just checked your book page on Amazon and found out that this book is 314 pages long! You wrote 314 pages at 13 and was brave enough to publish it. Whether you consider this book a "bad book" or not, you have to give yourself some credit where credit is due. You accomplished a big feat while balancing schoolwork, I'm assuming, and honestly should be proud of yourself. Now that you've done it, you know what it's like to have it completed and be a published author. I could only dream of getting to do such a thing at 13. I managed to publish my first children's book at 22, the year you did and just a couple of months after. It wasn't perfect, and I ended up taking it down, but I learned a lot from that experience and it was a good feeling when I first published the book. So, now that you did it, learned from the experience, and know what to do, you can say you have some experience on what it really takes.
judging by the title, you are being VERY hard on yourself. What you wrote is incredible for a thirteen-year-old. You have all the right plot devices, ideas, and use of literary devices. Obviously due to your young age, your execution wasn't necessarily the best. However, despite this, I think you should be very proud of yourself. Writing a novel is not easy and very few people can say with pride that they have published work- ESPEACIALLY from a young age. I think that if you were to publish a book today, you would do a much better job. We are humans; we learn as we grow.
I’m going to try writing a book or maybe just a story just try it out I’m also 17 I have always loved reading and dreamed about writing but never toke the step to try it I really want to challenge myself to write a book in English since it not my first language I would just like to say just try it you don’t have anything to loose and even it if sucks it was fun to try something new
This is a good story. I did feel that the children felt a deep loss at their parent's death. It does not need to be amplified for us. Your readers have good imaginations. This is a book that I would keep reading to see what eventually happened. I felt anger at how the military took the parents away from children who needed them. A good story will evoke emotion from its readers, and this your story did.
I wrote a book when I was 12 that wasn’t really a book. It had no plot line and no character development and was literally just two teens in a relationship and they just had a bunch of fights. I’m 22 now and I have written so many stories I’m proud of, some short and some novel length and with every story I’ve seen how much I’ve improved. Some sucked, don’t get me wrong but I actually like to go back and read what I’ve written because it’s almost like a time capsule of my work and it’s nice to see how far I’ve come. It’s my dream to have something published one day and I know it will happen. I just have to have faith in the process. Thank you for sharing your story. I hope it’s as much an inspiration for others as it was for me!
Not to be mean, but the title is very generic and not eye-catching. You might want to reconsider. Right now all it makes me think of is League of Legends.

Hearing this read aloud, knowing that you wrote it from age 10, is genuinely really impressive. You definitely had a better grasp on narrative structure than I did at 10. It's also really cool that you had the tenacity to actually finish it within 3 years ... again, something I was never able to accomplish when I was younger. (For some context, I'm 26 [I've been writing since age 5] - and am I about 5k words shy of finishing my first book ... this doesn't account for the whole terrifying process of contacting the remainder of my beta readers, polishing it accordingly, hiring a pro. editor, pitching it to some lit. agents, getting rejected by those agents, etc., etc.) My point is, even though your book became a lesson in what NOT to do, I really admire you for having the courage and the confidence to actually put something out there - because, again - that's something I DON'T have. You should feel very proud of yourself regardless of the outcome.

Hi, Mel! Have you ever thought about narrating audiobooks? I think you would be perfect at it. Your voice is so soothing and I love listening to you read!
I'm trying to write a book right now and it's really hard. One thing I'm really scared of is it not being descriptive or realistic enough. Something I think you did well in The Sky Weeps With Us was adding those small details of how things looked such as, "we traveled astray from the jungle of weeping families." That line just sounded so perfect to me. I'm trying to get your new book Leaving Wishville and I'm super excited to read it. It sounds like you have grown with your writing and you should be proud of yourself.
This is still written really well, especially for 13 years old! The commitment and determination you had/have is really inspiring. :) I'm currently working on my second book. I see flaws in my first book, but I am still really proud of it!
Hi Mel, my name is Chelsy and I'm using my mom's account. You're an inspiration to me. I hope to see you someday later on in life. The fact that you wrote a book is remarkable. Don't always put yourself down and believe in yourself because nobody else can do it for you xx. I will not forget you.
This is an amazing book and I think you have done such a great work. You were just 13 and I HAVE READ MUCH WORSE BOOKS. And I think you can edit it again or rewrite it and give it online I promise I will certainly read the whole book.
When I first heard you say "They would be buried in the cemetery, the criminal cemetery where there would be no visitors." My first thought was, "Man, imagine being such a dangerous criminal that even after death you were in solitary isolation."
Really you are amazing. It's really difficult to write book even in the alder age but you are not among them and which is making u extraordinary and an inspiration for other 🥰🥰
The book could have been worse, I pictured it. Could have been better but it's not too bad. I liked the concept. Setting the age of majority to 9 kind of made sense, by that age it is possible to survive on your own. It's hard though.
I agree, plus as a reader would you want to read a page, two pages, three pages of them being sad? Expressing how alone they felt, how hopeless the world was and falling into some endless pit of misery? I mean sure, that's realistic but the problem I see in this, and the problem I have actually turned off movies is this is the first chapter. I don't know or care about the parents, I know the characters do however. So instead of putting all the focus on the now, I would prefer to see how the character handles the grief moving forward, how they struggle to take care of a sibling while also dealing with the pain of having no parents around. Moments like, thinking mom and dad are going to be waiting for them and them when there is no one as they remember they are dead. Them struggling to be an adult for the first time and making a connection with their parents when they finally understood the struggle they went through to provide them a house and food. I think building up how the sadness and grief affects the character over the span of the book, and how they overcome their deaths and build on it as a driving force for their development...or not, it's possible they learn that their parents were actually terrible people and the execution was fully reasonable and then it's trying to learn to deal with that! Either way, I think all the upfront pain and emotion would detract from me wanting to care about the characters I am reading about, which would be the two siblings. The parents are already dead so soon so no emotional attachment as a reader, I am more curious what they will do going forward. So a 3 page sob scene right after would have been kind of gross to listen to. It's almost like listening to someone you don't know cry about a break up...like...please no, help! HELP! I am not invested in you, and definitely not invested in your failed relationship! XD Let me get to know you a little bit before you deep dive into your emotional crisis otherwise I will never have an attachment. Movies that just throw random death scenes at me with somber music and I am over there finding some popcorn because I am bored. XD
I remember printing a physical copy of this long book I wrote at 13. It took me a whole year to write and it’s got 40 chapters. I might try and re-write it. There’s this incredibly embarrassing typo in it (I had this character called Cole he wasn’t the protagonist but I literally misspelt his name for the first half of the book. I literally wrote “coal” as in the material which is *so* embarrassing retrospectively) I might even try and re-write it. It’ll take time though. Oh, and your book seems lovely!!! I love the world’s concepts and the tribes etc.
Don't worry about the publishing yet! Your main focus right now should be finishing the book. After that, take some time researching the different publication paths.
This inspired me to think about a book. I've loved reading for God knows how long. There was a time where I thought about becoming a author. I still have some ideas for a book, but I'm not sure if it'll turn out good.
You've achieved so much! Well done 🤧👏🏾I'm 13 right now and I'm hoping to finish writing my first novel before I'm 14 because originally I wanted to be the same age as my characters which makes absolutely no sense since my characters are 14 in the end but oh well 👍🏾 How did you manage to self-publish that book at such a young age?
If you can now see so many ways in which the novel could be better, it might be possible to revise it. That said, we do sometimes need to learn from past projects and move on. Your developing writing style here seems promising. 💖
I'm 13 and i'm writing my first book 🥲 it was cringe but i was so proud of it 🥲🤌 i watched this years ago and this inspired me actually so yeah 😩🤌 the story starts with a girl dreaming her past which us a bad idea but it is just for me so that means people can just read it if they want to and cringe or enjoy if they want to it is a fantasy story.
I started my first book at 11 and finished it at 14. Now that my second book is close to being finished looking back my first one isn’t great. But I don’t care because back then that was pretty good for me. I don’t know what you were talking about this is actually really impressive! Not just because you were 13
I am still not 13 and I love writing and I am amazed with some of the words I’m just going to say it’s kinda good but it needs just a little practice but it’s good for a 13 year old ☺️
I wrote a book when I was eleven that I worked really hard on for like a year and I thought it was SO GOOD. But now looking back I've realized that it's actually just a steaming pile of garbage. My sister and I love making fun of it, though, so I'm glad I wrote it. Plus, I had fun, and I accomplished something I'd wanted to do dor a long time.
That was actually better than I thought it would be. It reminds me of some of the stuff I would've written when I was a kid, though mine was comic book stories. When my older sister was in college she worked really hard on her first book. It was really terrible. So terrible in fact that for a while she gave up writing. Years later, she found that she was really good at writing high fantasy. She's written her first book and is now looking into publishing it. With me, I'm still playing around with some story ideas. I mostly write fanfiction. 😅
Hey! I just discovered your channel and I find you incredibly inspiring since I’m also working on publishing my own novel someday. I also wanted to say that your videos are really awesome! 😄
Hello young one. So, I have 30 years under my belt (my age lol). And I have only read a complete book once; it was a short story lol. And now I am writing my own book. I got the name figured out. I even know how I want to structure my chapters so I know what to write and in which order. I have this book that plays in my head and it plays as if it's a damn movie. I'm hoping to put that movie in my head on the the paper with words that paint the picture to the reader. Every detail, every dialogue, every monologue and even the smallest details like the colour of their clothes, hair, body type, height, right as the then scene is going on. Is that and issue? Please advise
I started writing a book at age 11 on a whim and ended up giving up on it. Long story short, in 2021 I decided I was going to finish it and at 16, I finally reached that goal. Even though it’s awful, I’m glad to have completed it.
I believe when you are older you are going to be amazed at what you wrote as a thirteen year old! Keep it in your drawers til you are a big famous writer at 40. Then republish! Tell the world: "this is what a 13-yer old can do!". ps. Without knowing it you described pretty well a common reaction to death, especially with children. They were told their parents would be killed, it happened. Then what? How do you react to that? There are no right answers. It´s a very abstract concept to understand, especially if you are a kid who has never lost anyone before. It takes a while before it seeps in. Trust me, this book is going to help you understand how kids minds work. Both how you wrote about it as a kid and how you feel when you are older.
I’m a book writer myself, I actually writing a anime novel without pictures and that’s my passion. I written stories when I was a young child, never published any of my works, I got older and lost my fire of writing and recently I just started writing again. All thanks to my little cousin that just turned eighteen, I shared my ongoing work of a anime novel and he gave me the motivation to chase, work hard and believe in my dreams. I write anime scripts, anime short stories and novels.
Don't worry, i hpe you tried your best and your best is all you can do right? So, don't get stressed by it. It's time-consuming i can understand. Everyone can't do it but you did it
For 13this is amazing writing! I really want to purchase your other book buts since in a bit of a book nerd lol, my mom said I can’t buy more books until I finish my unread books. Lol. I wrote a book 6 months ago and when my parents asked about it, I felt so embarrassed. If anyone read my story I would be so embarrassed it was such an immature concept so I gave up on that book and took a break and now I’m writing another book. It’s going well.
For 13 this is AMAZING, I was writing rubbish fan fiction at that age.

For you only being 13, I found it sounded really good. Thanks so much for sharing.💜
I honestly think that every work of art is special
This is still written really well, especially for 13 years old! The commitment and determination you had/have is really inspiring. :) I'm currently working on my second book. I see flaws in my first book, but I am still really proud of it!
Thank you! It's great that you are proud of your old work...we're always improving as writers. Good luck with your current book :)
@@MelTorrefranca Thanks! Good luck on your future writings. God bless!
i thought the book was really cool actually..
OMG your book is still available on Amazon! I'm definitely gonna buy it
Hi Mel, my name is Chelsy and I'm using my mom's account. You're an inspiration to me. I hope to see you someday later on in life. The fact that you wrote a book is remarkable. Don't always put yourself down and believe in yourself because nobody else can do it for you xx. I will not forget you.
Hi Chesly! Thank you so much, that’s so sweet :)
This is an amazing book and I think you have done such a great work. You were just 13 and I HAVE READ MUCH WORSE BOOKS. And I think you can edit it again or rewrite it and give it online
I promise I will certainly read the whole book.
SIS WDYM THIS IS GOODDDD
When I first heard you say "They would be buried in the cemetery, the criminal cemetery where there would be no visitors."
My first thought was, "Man, imagine being such a dangerous criminal that even after death you were in solitary isolation."
Who else is just in shock that Mel could write that at 10!!
It's well written. I'm intrigued. Maybe you should do an audio version now.
Your voice is so soothing
If you become a famous author someday, that book is going to be worth a ton of money!
Mel don't give plan your story then write your good book everyone will love your book I love you
It is so good! I feel like if you edited it a bit more, it would be a bestseller by now!
I'm 14, I write alot, you inspire me.
You're going to be my favorite UA-camr.....thank you so much! 💖
This is really AWESOME for 13! Very impressive. I have tried writing books around that age but never finished I applaud you!!
Aw thank you!!
to be fair everyone deals and feels grief diffrently, so its not unrealistic
XD
I know this thing was posted 4 yrs ago. But I appreciate you❤
Ive been watching you recently I’ve decided to try to right my own book hopefully I can get it published
I literally wrote “coal” as in the material which is *so* embarrassing retrospectively)
I might even try and re-write it. It’ll take time though.
Oh, and your book seems lovely!!!
I love the world’s concepts and the tribes etc.
Lol, good luck 🤞❤️
You are so inspiring. I’m writing a novel and I really want someone to give me there opinion! I want to publish it but I have no idea how!
Don't worry about the publishing yet! Your main focus right now should be finishing the book. After that, take some time researching the different publication paths.
I'm a Arabic writer , and you inspired me alot
This is actually really good for something you wrote that young.
Haha thank you!
That book isn’t bad lol you should be proud because that book got you somewheres in life and it sharpened your spirit to write more books.
This inspired me to think about a book. I've loved reading for God knows how long. There was a time where I thought about becoming a author. I still have some ideas for a book, but I'm not sure if it'll turn out good.
This is amazing I love this book from the sound of it
You've achieved so much! Well done 🤧👏🏾I'm 13 right now and I'm hoping to finish writing my first novel before I'm 14 because originally I wanted to be the same age as my characters which makes absolutely no sense since my characters are 14 in the end but oh well 👍🏾
How did you manage to self-publish that book at such a young age?
That's impressive for when you wrote the book.
If you can now see so many ways in which the novel could be better, it might be possible to revise it. That said, we do sometimes need to learn from past projects and move on. Your developing writing style here seems promising. 💖
Possibly someday, but right now I'm focused on new projects :)
@@MelTorrefranca Sounds good to me. 😃👍💝
You did Amazing writing this book as thirteen years old.
I don’t really like reading books, but I would read this
I'm 13 and i'm writing my first book 🥲 it was cringe but i was so proud of it 🥲🤌 i watched this years ago and this inspired me actually so yeah 😩🤌 the story starts with a girl dreaming her past which us a bad idea but it is just for me so that means people can just read it if they want to and cringe or enjoy if they want to it is a fantasy story.
I think that this book is pretty cool!
It sounds like something I would write when I was younger, I could still use tips though.
Don’t know how I got here from watching fortnite videos, but great video 👍
Wow thanks dude 😂
I actually love this! I am also writing a book right now! Subscribing now!
Aw thank you!
@@MelTorrefranca You're welcome!! Happy writing!!
This is good, for being thriteen. I'm 11 and I this inspried me to do better..... This is really helpfull, and thank you for sharing!
I started my first book at 11 and finished it at 14. Now that my second book is close to being finished looking back my first one isn’t great. But I don’t care because back then that was pretty good for me. I don’t know what you were talking about this is actually really impressive! Not just because you were 13
I am still not 13 and I love writing and I am amazed with some of the words I’m just going to say it’s kinda good but it needs just a little practice but it’s good for a 13 year old ☺️
This is beautiful.
Gurl are you kidding?
I need to see what I wrote when I was thirteen.
Sucks is a huge understatement.
i'm a year late but new subscriber here! love the couple videos i've seen!!
Yayyy welcome, so happy to have you here :)
I feel the same way!!
Its freaking awesome that you wrote a book!
Haha thank you! Still keeping at it ✍🏽
That was actually better than I thought it would be.
Thank you so much :)
Mel Torrefranca No problem!
This is amazing for a 13 year old I started writing when I was 5 and your 13 year old book is better then my stories from 13 years old
This is so good for 13!!
I think you sound wonderful. It sounds captivating.
I started writing a book at age 11 on a whim and ended up giving up on it. Long story short, in 2021 I decided I was going to finish it and at 16, I finally reached that goal. Even though it’s awful, I’m glad to have completed it.
damn this is actually really good
I believe when you are older you are going to be amazed at what you wrote as a thirteen year old!
Thanks for sharing your perspective on this! Very interesting :)
Wait what- this is fucking amazing. It would have been a tad better if there was a more description and introduction.
You are so underrated! You are such a great inspiration for teen authors
Thank you so much!
Im 11 thinking of writing a book then when I've started the first page I'll go ask my english teacher for advice
Such nyc way to convey a message
I love your channel! ! I just subbed 😁😁
welcome my dude!!
