Aww, I loved this! Thank you for the adorable example of pure 🌞 JOY. I agree wholesome, quiet/calming activities are so simple but can really help, especially when near nature.

Ugh, this is such a difficult one for me, Jaimie. When there are so many people in my head looking down their proverbial nose at whatever I'm doing - and when I'm used to being scared of other people enjoying (perversely enough, enjoying) "gotcha!"s - then *everything* feels wrong. And then, when I get used to everything feeling wrong, I make worse decisions on what I enjoy. Either I'm completely frugal with my food money and being generous with my extra, or I'm eating out and saying "take that, everybody - I'm out on the town tonight!" (They're normally priced restaurants in a suburb; I'm just explaining the feelings.) If you've ever read about former New York City mayor and failed Presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg, he has a very swingy version of this - wanting draconian health measures while also privately binging pizza in astonishing quantities. That sort of thing.
I'm mishandling stress right now (waiting for some logistics to fall in place to make a music video for my next album, and then going through the PR cycle of that album), and I know I'm doing things in this kind of sensory whiplash. I don't recommend it to anyone. You're totally on point (as ever!).

Exactly. In school I would either painstakingly perfect an assignment down to the font for hours and hours, or deliberately avoid the assignment and fail.

Thank you for the video! This is a topic I think sometimes think of and also gladly, have found calmed down about it, notably. I think the simple act of appreciating and being grateful to God is often enough. And I do feel like the spiritual joy we experience should be sincere. If my intrusive thoughts sometimes start to bother me, asking me to give up on something I enjoy, I sometimes have to ask myself: "Would I give up on that out of sincere heart or because of Christian overachieving and the feeling of self-righteousness?"
And glad to hear you find so much joy in your life with your family! The simple joy of children is something we should try to learn from sometimes. I do think a part of a healthy mindset is to never lose that ability to find wonder in small things. Jesus didn't talk about the kingdom of heaven and children for no reason.😊

This is me right here with ocd/adhd. Always walking out of a store wondering if I spent too much.

Thank you, Jaime, for all you do to bless all of us who are struggling. I have religious OCD. I took the "Scrupulosity Test" a while back, and guess who my "mentor" is? None other than my favorite person in church history- Martin Luther. We appreciate you very much. Oh, btw, I turned 57 today and I still like balloons. Red ones especially :-) Many blessings to you and yours!

What's there to enjoy except maybe sitting on a rocking chair and watching the sunset? It seems like everything is a sin.
Enjoy food? You're a glutton. Enjoy some alcohol in moderation? You're in sin. Have a nice car? You're of the world. Going on a good holiday? You're also worldly.
I myself like classic rock and metal. And was told I have no salvation by another Christian here on UA-cam. 25 yrs ago I was told by my pastor I had wrong priorities when I bought a good new car. And another Christian told me the same thing 5 yrs ago when I replaced it with a good performance car.
Buy a rocking chair and watch the sunset. That's about all you can do.

Buying an expensive car is probably not a great idea, especially if its a status symbol. For music, personally I think we should just avoid music that endorses sin. Food and alcohol are fine in moderation, and modesty. A $100 steak is probably an excess.

I'm sorry you've had such a tough run with the topic of enjoyment. And so sorry that another Christian UA-camr felt he could judge your status with the Lord!
I guess we could even find issue with the example of sitting in a rocking chair watching the sunset (laziness)! That's why we will always need God's help and good old fashioned common sense to walk wisely. Being worldly is not good, but also it's not good to be "so heavenly minded you're no earthly good," so ascetic that we make others think the religion of Jesus is for miserable, frowning, depressed, no-fun people.
Little children loved to be around Jesus. I am sure He was someone full of smiles, laughter, and wholesome enjoyment. May He help us each to find the balance that we need.

I have a hard time playing my video games at the end of the day and even watching football and hockey. I feel so guilty for taking time for myself at the end of the day and I feel like God doesn’t approve of those things. Are these things okay to do?
