I made 29,000 my first year teaching in Florida. I couldn't even afford to have routine maintenance on my car. I was also forbidden from giving my fourth graders recess that first year. "Maximize instructional time," my boss would chant. This was in Orlando at Engelwood Elementary School. It was HORRIBLE. Obviously I didn't stay teaching in Florida.
Who the hell is well educated enough to teach school yet wants to teach in a state where these skills are only not appreciated but under attack by their government policies?
Here in CALIFORNIA, starting salary for teachers is $75,000 in most cities and we still have a severe shortage of teachers..... goodluck Florida.....try to get more teachers to teach when you pay them Walmart salary.....
They need to give these educators a raise otherwise, they will consistently lose teachers..being a teacher is a stressful job some of them are leaving the profession, and finding higher paying jobs; the salary that these teachers earn is an insult to say the least...that proves that the school administration doesn't value these educators much, which some of them take teachers for granted.
As these teachers leave, their students' performance will be hurt greatly due to them no longer having an actual teacher. That happened to me and some other students when my math teacher suddenly left midyear. A teacher shortage means a student performance shortage. It is only a matter of time before the teacher shortage starts pulling down the average IQ of this country.
Solutions are not hard to find, it is just that the government has no desire to implement those solutions, still trying to find an easier and cheaper way out.
The problem is real simple. Up the pay, stop handcuffing these teachers and give them more authority in the classroom for the trouble makers. Who wants to be a teacher when the student can do whatever the hell they wanna do and the teacher has to sit back and give them milk and cookies? Conditions for some teachers are ridiculous. It will only get worse. Money talks!

$29,000? You are better off working for a Walmart or a senior citizens trailer park.....

Haha.....give them 5 years the most and the majority of them will pack and be gone.... 60% of new teachers do not make it pass their 5th year......
