Stoked to see Newbern back! I assumed he was just busy with his own UA-cam channel... Sucks to find out you guys were contractually obligated to not hang out
You know things ain't right when some corporate entity prevents you from hanging out and filming two good friends just having a good time. Looking back at that now in context of all that's going on with the demise of motor trend/roadkill and all the other related good shows, well looking at the big picture, those contractual obligations preventing them hanging out was worse than the part where they all lost their jobs. Not that corporate will care, but wait till they see each one of those talented guys go out and crush things with each person's own personal UA-cam channels! I've subscribed to all those guys channels that I could find and hope all y'all do the same!
Im stoked. Knew about contract before and even another show on the same network is considered the competition. Way happy now they are free and the collaborations are gonna be amazing between the HotRod MT group. Add to that the StreetOutlaws ending and releasing those folks from contracts as well and i think 2025 is gunna be a great year for content
Adding another voice of disapproval for the corporate BS. If a job stops ya from hangin' out with ya mates, ya need an new employer. If was pretty obvious Finn, 12 Volt and Cotten were bummed at not being able to collaborate. Look at 1320 for a better example, people not limited by contracts, spinning off folks like Garrett and multiple channels collaborating, same way Linus Tech Tips has collabs with other channels, it's the realisation that collaborating drives new viewers to ALL the channels, where the corporates think of it as stealing part thier little pie.

Removing the blower and leaving it setup for race, then just build a mock intake with a 4bl on top for street running. Welcome back Newbern! Use a Supercharger bypass... Most superchargers have a vacuum activated bypass which is designed to unload the supercharger when you're not developing over atmospheric pressure in boost. In your case I'd change strategy a little and use the same style of manifold, but use the bypass to the blowout panel, so you go from a new manifold on top of the supercharger straight down to where the blowout panel is, allowing the use of the same throttle bodies with or without the supercharger in the process. Then you can just open that throttle blade when you're on the street and remove the belt. That'll result in the supercharger being bypassed when you're not competing. If you're super keen you could still use a vacuum bypass activation to keep the engine cooler when you're running on track, to allow bypass air when you're idling or waiting around, but... Mechanical complexity and potential failure modes make for a dull days diagnostic problems. Anyway, keep on going, you do awesome stuff and I really enjoy watching :)
@drew97s. But because it is a gasser, it is a roots supercharger, not one designed for use in a vehicle. Roots superchargers were designed for stationary diesel generators that run at a constant speed. So there are just the 2 meshing extruded gears spinning in a case. Pretty much just like mechanical constant flow water pump, just made longer.
There’s somebody that did basically that for a drag week event. Had a big blower they didn’t want to have to swap out or rebuild after the street driving. Like you’re saying, they adapted a throttle body to the burst panel so it could drive around NA. Seemed to work pretty well for them and saved the wear on the blower.
Thank you for this one! I'm getting vibes like the early days of roadkill. I wanna watch more. Please own all the production and content from now on. Happy New Year!
It's good to see you guys together again after being limited to the occasional Newbern photobomb in the background. Also good to hear the explanation of the contractual interference we all suspected. Man I give you guys props for sticking with the company for as long as you did. As soon as they tell me I can’t hang out with my friends I would walk out the front door! Looking forward to watching you guys make UA-cam content together again!
First, a disclosure: I work for Hearst. That said, I'm very low in the org and I don't know anything about the acquisition other than what I saw in the press release. I have no knowledge of the deal from within my company. But I did hear from a former MT employee that Hearst didn't get the TV side of the business, and I have no reason to doubt that they're correct about that, so I have no idea what will happen to the shows -- past or future. Which makes it even stranger that they called out Drag Week and Roadkill Nights in the press release. As for the magazines, I get what you're saying about the truck magazines way back when. But _Car Craft_ and _Hot Rod_ were both under the same roof since the 80s (if not earlier), and _Car and Driver_ and _Road & Track_ have also been owned by the same company for a long time, so who knows. Then again, the traditional magazine business has been declining for decades. I'll be at Sick Week in January. I hope you last all week, I hope you do great, and I hope I get to see you when you're in my town. 👍
I remember an article written by Dick Landy, where he showed how to build a good street Hemi, and one of the updates he did was to replace the tension springs between the rocker arms, because his experience with his race Hemi's showed the springs allowed too much deflection with the rocker arms at high rpm's, so he made up these keepers that clamped onto the rocker shafts and held the rockers in place. Maybe something to look into ?
I remember reading that article in the 90s. Hemi valvetrain was always a weak point for the platform, until heads and rockers made huge advancements in the 2000s. Both mikes rocker systems, and heads, are decades ahead of the OE style parts Landy was makin more reliable. Valve train no matter what make is tough on drag and drive cars. Any considerable high RPM makes a solid roller your best option. Solid rollers require exponetionly more maintenance and are more sensitive to temperature. Mikes all aluminum motor probably has a .015 to .030 diference in valve lash cold to 200. Which is alot. Overheat and that gap grows or shrinks more. A hydraulic lifter would automatically take up this slack, you wouldnt notice much. A solid lifter translates all this shift directly to the valve. If it shifts too far, things go pop
@@flipfloptanlines926 Agreed. But, when you see where his rockers keep failing, it's at the top where the push rod makes contact. Could it be possible at the high end, the tip of the rocker maybe coming out of alignment, even by a little bit, thus making improper contact and smashing the end of the pushrod ? Maybe the tension on the springs between the rockers needs to be checked ? It's a pretty consistent issue with his engine.
@@693514V I agree all the points you mentioned could be a trouble point. Especially on hemi valvetrain which has more angle and heavier rockers than most. But, all roots or screw blown engine has rocker failure with overheating and poor tune up. The supercharged engines hammer the valvetrain and harmonic much much more than turbos do. Its also 1 reason why they commonly throw the blower belt. Any roots or screw blown unit needs to be kept cool to keep the intake charge cooler. They drove it a couple hundred miles with the blower "on fire" he said. Hot air makes timing more sensitive and prone to backfires, which is not unusual to find a broken rocker from afterward. For your spring suggestion if an engine guy thought the shaft spring was problematic in their combo, there are non traditional rockers used by some that resemble more of a standard type no slide bar system. Usually reserved for N/A use because of the lighter weight. The traditional hemi bar style is preffered on supercharged engines because its more robust and easier to service. Now that Pete reground the cam to a smoother ramp, the engine will behave smoother, and be far less likely to eat a pushrod. What happens generally is the pushrods get shook so hard side to side that they flex and jump the lifter pocket or the rocker cup. Thats why 5/8" pushrods are very common in supercharged engines. Thats about thumb sized.
That's wild, I didn't realise that you guys were contractually not allowed to hangout on camera, that's BS. Glad that you guys can collab now, you both make awesome content.
@isaaccan3155 yeah I think that's what threw me off. I could kind of understand not being able to have a YT channel whilst working for a video media company but they let that slide then clamped down on collabs between presenters. What makes it weirder is that I imagine Newbern was brought to motor trends attention from working with Finn on UA-cam!
It's great to see Dave back. I love Joe, but you and Dave seem to have much more chemistry. I hope they bring back the Roadkill YT channel. Even if the production was better I don't think Roadkill was ever better than when it was on YT. ETA:Fooking corporate suits, always trying to justify their existence and paycheck and messing up a good thing in places they have NO clue what they are talking about and doing. Gotta squeeze every last penny out of everything, while destroying everything we love. I'm so glad all of you are out from under their thumb! Newbern, Finnegan, Freiburger, Cotton, Dulchich, Tony and Joe have been the backbone of yhe car videos...with a splash of DD Speed, Vise Grip and Flying Sparks. All great stuff...
because of what happened and how they handle it I’m not supporting motor trend nor watching their UA-cam channel. They screwed me on their app $45. Stop sending content to it halfway through the season. I didn’t even get a refund.
I canceled my subscription when discovery bought motor trend. People like me are part of the problem why it died...but....its all why companies like hooligan and donut are dying. They don't understand US. The consumers and car people. It's just greed. I hated trying to navigate the discovery app and it was filled with garbage I had zero interest in. I enjoyed it when roadkill was on UA-cam...they were making money...maybe not expanding and growing like a corporate mind would like...but...they were still killing it. Just wasn't enough...it was greed. And I won't support it.
Great episode! Great to see you guys working together. Maybe you could mount a throttle body in the front of the chiller under the blower, then all you need to do is move the throttle cable to switch over.
So happy to see Dave again. I've missed you both together. No offense to Joe, but there's just not the same chemistry you have with Dave. Loved the story about Cotton at the end 🤣

Love the chance to be in the room while you guys chat, reminisce, and scheme for the future!!
Mornin Finn, Good morning gearheads, Hey Dave....
good mornin!
That's wild, I didn't realise that you guys were contractually not allowed to hangout on camera, that's BS. Glad that you guys can collab now, you both make awesome content.
I knew that all had stipulations in their contracts. I was surprised Mike was allowed to have his own UA-cam channel.
Maybe you won't be making as much money, but freedom is worth so much more, and can't be bought.
Awesome news I love everything both you guys do and I know I speak for a lot of people who say we are super happy to see you too dorks back together you guys make some awesome cars awesome working together and it’s great to see friends able to do what they love together
Really liked hearing the blasphemi update.
I’m glad the engine wasn’t toasted man.
Slipper clutch is gonna get you where you wanna be when it gets sorted out.
Keep her between the ditches!
I'm going to watch that 2019 drag week again!! So much awesomeness!!
I, for one, enjoyed the unboxing videos. It's great to see what people send in, showing their appreciation for what you do. It may be more work for you, but what about a mid week video with the unboxing?
Cool to see Dave back on your channel
Tony angelo walks like he shit his pants or born on a horse 😂
😂👌😂
😂😂😂
It's a Philly thing
HAHAH I've said it's a cowboy walk, but really I'm super bow legged.
GREAT CHEMISTRY ! You two are great together! Love to see move of 12 Volt Dave and you!
Mike, please use a mic, or change placement if you are using one. The audio is up and down, up and down... Kind of like Blasphemi's racing career 😂
Newbern, Finnegan, Freiburger, Cotton, Dulchich, Tony and Joe have been the backbone of yhe car videos...with a splash of DD Speed, Vise Grip and Flying Sparks. All great stuff...
Eh, could do without a few of those mentioned.
Plenty of quality content outside of the channels you named…
because of what happened and how they handle it I’m not supporting motor trend nor watching their UA-cam channel. They screwed me on their app $45. Stop sending content to it halfway through the season. I didn’t even get a refund.
Motortrend switched over to discovery. Discovery is the one who killed all the shows on motortrend.
I'll never motor trend again , ever !!!
I just cancelled Discovery+ and was given a months refund.
I demanded my whole year subscription returned. They paid me , I actually didn't believe it
I canceled my subscription when discovery bought motor trend.
Great reunion gentlemen. The empty blower housing sounds like a solution for Blasphemi. Happy new year and thanks for all the vids.
Great to see newbern back, looks like hes been taking care of himself good on you dude ! Hope to see plenty more from you in the future
IM SO EXCITED! I’m sad that all the Motortrend is dead but if this brings you guys together back on my TV I’ll call it a win.
Your saying is this years Rose Parade's theme. BEST DAY EVER!!
So happy to see Dave again. I've missed you both together. No offense to Joe, but there's just not the same chemistry you have with Dave. Loved the story about Cotton at the end 🤣
So glad to see you 2 back together
