The butt fumble was over 10 years ago and didn't even affect your team. Yeah the pats dynasty was incredible, but it's over now. It can't hurt you anymore.
The Gravedigger at number 2! So glad to see Gilbert on here. Everyone in Packer Nation loves big ol' Gilbert. I remember when John Madden, during a game, listed Gilbert at 350 lb, and Pat Summerall responded, "I think you're being kind to him at 350."
My friend had an auditorium class at Pitt with Ironhead Heyward. He said that Heyward sat in the back & brought a 6 pack of Heineken when he attended. At a time when athletes didn’t bother to attend classes, no one cared about the beer. He also said that Heyward was surprisingly nice & down to earth to those who would overcome their own intimidation to speak w/him.
My grandfather was the heaviest player in the early 30s, Harold Ely. 6'2" 275lbs in 1932 with the Chicago Bears...Halas gave him the number 275 (only player in the NFL to have a 3 digit number).

GRAVEDIGGER!!!! Finally, my boy Gilbert Brown gets some love. Vince Wilfork is a beast today, but no one was better than stopping the run at nose tackle than Gilbert Brown. His size did help, but he was a dominant player who had quickness that belied his size.
I remember him playing against my Bears. Of course, the Packers dominate the Bears just about every year, but Brown was a big reason (pun intended) why Green Bay had Chicago's number.
He was the anchor on that Packers SB d-line. One of the best defensive lines ever. You had Reggie on the pass rush, Gilbert stopping the run, Santana Dotson providing inside pass rush, then crafty veteran Sean Jones on the other end, always making the timely deflected pass or sack when the opposing offense ignored him.
The list is for people specifically known for their size, madden was a big guy but wasn't really known for his size while the others were known for their size as much as anything else

I'm from Maryland and remember that super bowl team very well, but they dont belong on this list. They were great defensive linemen but not especially fat for the position. If they just listed 10 big defensive tackles it would be a boring list.

Yet the guy didn't take himself seriously. He let the fame of being a Chicago folk hero get to his head. He didn't take care of himself. He didn't take his NFL career seriously. And I vaguely remember him incurring Ditka's wrath in 1987 when he let his weight get out of control. But this guy had such incredible athletic talent. He was quick, the stories of him being able to dunk a basketball as a young man have been verified (I believe; it's been a while so my memory could be very fuzzy), and he could jump onto a table three feet off the ground from a standing position without a running start. In my opinion, I have never seen a pro athlete do so little with so much. If he just had a more serious mindset, who knows how his career and his life turned out. I'm not saying you can't enjoy your celebrity status; I had zero problems with Perry doing the commercials and such (the one he did with Jim McMahon for Coke still brings a smile to my face to this day, no matter how corny it is). But there is a time to enjoy your status and there is a time to get out there and get to work. Perry didn't do that. Again, it's really a shame, too. But oh well. A fine list overall, I thought.
