Because if it's the side of the house, you'll have to clear it everytime just to get the key considering that some place get between 3 to 8ft of snow. Where I'm at, were at 6ft which isn't fun.
Also, disregard ThoraniosX's comment. He's a poor lonely soul who's only interaction is via the internet and that irks him inside. As you can see, his ability to communicate his desire for companionship is actually a arduous task. It doesn't help that he's the only Star War's Larper in existence. Well, at least he can be Bobba Fetts, the one character that being thrown so many time in the Sarlak, one by a blind man, that he got a free season pass.

It's probably a good idea to pick a wall of the house that has plumbing on the other side (inside) anyway... just in case someone who knows the inside of your house gets curious as to why it would be in that location. I mean, if they know that on the other side of that wall there is nothing there, then they'll know that the pipe shouldn't be there.
I suppose I'm just paranoid, though.

If legal in your state/city purchase a basic lock pick set. Most home deadbolt locks can be picked in a manner of minutes. There are sets that are in a credit card form (or just as small) so can be kept in purse/wallet. I purchased a basic set, watched a few u-tube vids on how to pick a lock and picked my front door lock in 20 seconds. I keep a tensioner and city pick in the glove box in my car ( and a few other places) in case I need to get into my home or you can put these in this pipe set up (or other key hide away) so, if found, they don't have your key and may not know what those little things are. Just something to consider. Non Sibi, Sed Pariae.

For the people like me with snow issues use 1 or 2 screws if your comfortable doing so, even repeating the steps on the front concrete or wooden porch floor, or even inside the garage if it opens automatically. Nobody said had to be in the fully out side. Even put a spare key in your wallet if your problem losing keys is a issue. my 2 cents anyways cool idea.

Word of advice: String and/or yarn disintegrate with time. Since this is something that'll be around your house for a long while, I'd go with something that doesn't fall apart with age and moisture. Fishing line is perfect for this kind of thing. Go to a sporting goods store and get a reel of fishing line. I find 40-50 lb lines are very good all-purpose for things like tying, hanging, etc. After many times having string break on me, I started using this stuff and never looked back. (Plus it's transparent, so it doesn't stand out as much as white string or colored yarn.)

....How about making a plaster parish rock, use a spare key, seal it inside, and just lay the rock either with other like rocks or on its own in the garden or on the porch etc. Just crack it open when needed. You could also make a small plaster-Paris pebble, (same procedures as the rock) lay it in the flower pot with other pebbles surrounding the plant inside the pot.

In reply to Kaitlyn without having to be hidden among all those many many comments,
for your specific situation, I would make a hidden spot within one of your shoes that you wear everyday to class.
But I wouldn't recommend that for anyone who wears different shoes sometimes . . . instead, I would recommend you wear it on a necklace, concealed or out fashionable either way, and useful. Personally, I used to keep mine on a lanyard and had my lanyard attached to my purse . . . which worked well until one day when I forgot my purse in one of my classes . . .

there are many ways to hide a key, my favorites are if you have a tiled walkway to the porch like i do, have a small cavity underneath one tile, and place a hide a key box underneath, unless someone decides to search under every tile, they're not likely to find it. another is those solar lamps people put on their walkways, many have tops that pop off to change the lightbulb. and have a nice room inside to hide a key, again, a sole lamp may be a target, but getting many will get people to not bat an eye. another one is if you can get a nice looking spiderweb, a good halloween shop would have one. even a glaring hide a key would be more safe if the would be robber would need to reach through a spiderweb to get it. it is especially effective with a decoy rock. that rock will not be touched.

*I made a 'key within a key' and labelled the key cover as "spare key", then chained it to the wall right next to the door.* I then epoxied a pull line to the key with an alarm light and flash "camera" that says "smile for the camera". It can only be turned off from inside. So far I have pictures of my kid's friends inspecting it curiously and never once did they figure to pull the real key out from inside the "key" shaped holder.

What is even more astonishing is that it isn't hard to find since people tend to put them in the same place, at the very least I would put it in a more obscure place under my car so someone doesn't just have to feel under the outside area of it.

But when people see caps, or kids see them.. wouldn't they wanna turn it open? It's a little obvious/odd from what I think. I would rather hide it under the plant 1:45

Just put the key (and maybe other stuff you want to keep) in a water tight box, take something to dig with maybe a big spoon and bury it in the ground far enough from your house, so that even if it is found nobody will have any idea what it is for. Make sure nobody not even a camera can see what you are doing. Put a mark/stone over it and take a picture of the place and of the area and save it to PC and email to yourself with a name that only you will know what is there. Remember, it might be many years before you touch this key again!

Now every thief will look for a suspicious black pipe around the house to find the key. Last thing i want is my house to get robbed lol

Not that it really matters, but the pipe and fittings in the video is NOT PVC. It's actually ABS. The idea isn't all that bad, but it's hard to keep a piece of pipe like that "attached" to a house using just some sort of putty adhesive. That's especially true if it's being put onto wood or composite siding, not to mention those materials usually won't have a true vertical surface.

I used the decoy to hide a decoy key that opens a decoy box that i buried in my yard which contains the house key
so even if someone finds that decoy key from the PVC pipe, they won't be able to open the house with it
because the actual house key is buried in a key box
that's the smarter way to make sure you are safe and secure

Oooooh I'm going to build a septic tank that I can walk into to retrieve my hidden key! Or, or, or an out house with a toilet and a f 5 ft hole in the ground, throw some real shit in it so people won't suspect that it's my key hiding place😂
