I’ve only just found these. They’re delightful. So clear. So intelligent. So gentle. So skilled. It is such a relief to have just natural sounds with your voice instead of the all pervasive music that so many amateurs think they must use. And the out takes - that shows a delightful modesty as well as an endearing sense of humour . . . I love them xx
I really like the way you put your photo reference on screen while painting. Most painting tutorials fail to do this, and it's a very important part of of learning by comparing the reference with the painting. I taught art for a couple of decades and I am very impressed with your teaching style.
I am so happy I found your channel. You are exceptionally talented and so very humorous! I love the tutorials and the bloopers are so funny. Thank you for allowing us to learn from you and laugh with you as well.
Thank you!... for bringing us on this journey with you. I love your outtakes! I love how you present yourself as a learner. You make the best teacher! And thank you for the "what have I learned" summary. The hair is beautiful
Here I am in 2022....about to paint a Christmas angel ... searching for a hair tutorial...this is the absolute best. Your style of teaching is so effective. I've only been doing watercolor for a few years. Hair is a challenge and I thank you so much. I've learned so many things from you over the last few years. My wish for blessed holidays!!!
Thank you for showing us that you’re still learning, improving, and make mistakes. It is very helpful to me. I love how you explain what you’re doing and what you were thinking. I also love the recap at the end telling what you learned. Wonderful!
Thank you Louise for showing and explaining your process so clearly. The end result is great! It was really helpful and has inspired me to try again. My first attempt at doing a portrait was of a girl with tight corkscrew curls....I was really happy with her face, but the hair was a disappointment. Next time, will try straight hair! Many of us watching your videos assume you're just a brilliant all - round artist, so it does give us hope when we see you going outside of your comfort zone and trying to improve your skills. Please show more of these!
I find your videos so instructional and have really learned from them. I am totally guilty of overworking my paintings and appreciate your lessons in restraint. Thank you for your excellent videos!
Always ending with laughter, I so look forward to Friday mornings now to see your latest! Magnificent job on the hair, really good variety of shades/tones, looks very realistic! Thanks for sharing as always, Louise!
You are so adorable as well as being extremely talented... I love your bloopers as much as I love your tremendously helpful instructions! You have an avid new fan. I can't wait to watch more of your videos.
It’s nice to see a tutorial (and especially your comments while you’re working) on something besides flowers! I learned so much, and thank you for including the bloopers! You have a refreshing s
Thank you for sharing. Many of us can not afford to subscribe to loads of different Patreons at the moment. Your generosity in sharing is so welcome at this time. Seeing your practise is so instructional. Cats and people for paintings. And loose not over detailed if possible, liked the haircut, Tom soup is a favourite. Thank you x
I think I've directed a lot of people here already! Haha. Love sharing your tutorials Louise because I learned a lot from you. I think Imma na pay it forward by sending your link to others who are doing their best to learn watercolor. 😊
In all your videos that I have watched so far, there comes a point where something snaps in my head, and the painting jumps into 3D. It's a delightful feeling! Thanks so much for your videos - I have learned so much!
Always look forward to your next videos. Hard to believe you haven't painted much hair, it is so realistic. You should be very proud of yourself. All your paintings have a special glow about them. Thankyou for sharing.
The hair is just beautiful! I love how you left some light streaks, which gave it a glowing look. You are an amazing watercolorist, and I love watching your videos! I learn so much from watching you (but I don't seem to be able to do what you do!). Thank you for sharing your delightful talent with us.
Merci Louise pour cette démonstration tout en douceur comme votre voix. J'ai apprécié votre approche pour la réalisation des cheveux. Au plaisir de vous lire. Mireille
I want to try painting hair in watercolour so this video has come along at exactly the right time. 😊 Looking forward to the face tutorial as that’s next on my to-do list. Could you do a video featuring clothes, please? I’d like to know how to tackle draping and folds.
You did a fabulous job there Louise. I seem to gush over your work so tried to think if I could offer any constructive 'critique' - but I cannot fault the way you paint! I was with you every brush stroke there and now have an idea of how to tackle hair myself - as Debra says - your way of teaching is very impressive - and thanks for sharing! I love how you look to improve your work constantly.
I too have set a goal to learn to paint water color portraits. About a year ago I didn't even know how to draw a portrait. I set that goal and have done quite well, I think. I've tried to paint portraits but it isn't easy. I'm glad that you are going to venture into this. I know that your lessons with help me as well!
This is honestly one of the most useful hair tutorials on youtube. Over the past year I have pretty much mastered portrait painting, but hair has been my downfall. I cant wait to follow this tutorial with you and improve my skills. Thank you for the fantastic, high quality video
Thank you for this video Louise. I've been watching your videos and learning allot from you. Would love for you to put up a Flamingo painting at some stage of possible.
I'm so glad you did this video on painting hair since it has been something I've been wanting to learn. As usual, you explain things so clearly, and I very much appreciate you sharing the colors used as well as other info. Thanks!
Louise, I echo Patty Cyr. I am pretty good at capturing likenesses with pencil. So I’ve wanted to try watercolor portraiture. I have marked this excellent video to help me with hair. Thank you!
Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou. I overwork, overwork, overwork. I must relax and start again. Your tutorials are vital. I love your thinking it through and attention to detail!
I really, really enjoy always the last few seconds of your videos. It is the best lovely comedy. You always bring me to smile even when my day was a bad day.. Thank you so much for this too. Greetings from Germany....💝💝💝
Louise, you are absolutely magnificent to watch and listen, and if you call this a practice session,I’m really speechless, because you did an amazing job. I’m a recent subscriber and can’t wait for your videos to get posted. And not mention the “bloopers” at the end,you have also this great sense of humor. I am at before a beginner stage LOL in watercolor. I love to watch someone like you creating, I love to just play with the colors, even swatching is so amazing to see the colors move and bloom, I am fascinated completely. I am a colorist, but with watercolor maybe I will get to do some very simple things. Thank you for sharing, and looking forward to the next one. Those who left a thumbs down, even 3 people, I’m sure they have no clue what watercolor is, they don deserve to see your creations, but there is plenty of us who love your work and your personality. Take care and be safe ❣️
I really enjoy watching your paintings development and see how you have used your reference photo,(loved that you kept it there until you stopped looking) and then loved the use of the 3 colors of washes and dry paper area of hair. Fantastic to have bloopers at the ending of your demonstration for a little lighthearted moments, and able to laugh at mistakes. So important in watercolor painting to be less serious about mistakes made. Thank you , Nicholas
Why are there any "thumbs down" for this lesson? It's excellent! I love to paint portraits but have always struggled with hair so this was very beneficial for me. It has convinced me to join your Patreon group if you have one. Thank you for your generosity in sharing your tutorials on UA-cam.
Louise you are too cute! I love how you painted your hair, not your hair on your head but your hair in the photo! I am learning to be more patient in my painting by watching your wonderful tutorials. Thank you for that!!
Your outtakes are so cute. I appreciate you showing how hard you work at making the videos just right. I identify. Keep going because are having so much success at connecting with us.
Am so glad you have started on portraits, I love them but find them the most difficult and can now see all the mistakes I made previously. Can’t wait for the eyes nose and mouth... should be a treat.
Loved your sincerity and humility in showing all the vulnerability of painting. I really appreciated how well you explained how the wetness and dryness of the paper affect the painting process, so important in watercolor. And yes it is a lifetime learning process. Thank you so much.
I think you mastered the hair. It looks so bouncy and real ! The layering of the colors and taking time to do little sections at a time seems to be the key . Again this was a great tutorial ! Thank you.
Like that! I would love to extand my knowledge to painting portraits or full people silhouette. I followed and was with you every step of the way, because I think the hair is very tricky to achieve! :-)
I just started painting a few months ago and you are so far ahead of me, it isn't even funny. Yet you freely touch on your own shortcomings and needs to learn and practice further. Your honest way, and of course your always clear and concise explanations, are a huge inspiration to me. Thank you very much for making those videos. Cheers from Germany - Folker
Suggestions for future videos: ocean waves, eyes in close-up. I love your videos and look forward to them. PS I can see that the paper you use will have a big effect on the hair painting.
Thank you, this is fantastically helpful. It's rare to watch an artist explain the decisions they are making in real-time, and I learnt so much from watching. Thank you!

I am so happy I found your channel. You are exceptionally talented and so very humorous! I love the tutorials and the bloopers are so funny. Thank you for allowing us to learn from you and laugh with you as well.
I liked your breaking down the painting into sections because it is so easy to get lost in the whole
Thank you!... for bringing us on this journey with you. I love your outtakes! I love how you present yourself as a learner. You make the best teacher! And thank you for the "what have I learned" summary. The hair is beautiful

Good work. All of your recommendations are excellent. Thank you very much. I add a bit of violet/mauve to deepen the darker sections
Wonderful tip. I didn't even think of that. I must have been nervous. Thanks Silvia!
