  • Often, cuff down sock patterns call for a wedge toe and finish with a Kitchener stitch graft. But, so many with Kitchener stitch. In this video I cover three alternatives a knitter can always use to close the end of their toes when sock knitting!
    The Finchley Graft
    The Zig Zag Bind Off
    The Russian Graft

Thank you for doing this show. I have not been doing socks long but the first one is catching my attention. The Kitchener stitch is really hard for me to get. This last one looks even better. Thank you so much.

You’re so welcome! I do think the Finchley Graft is easier. I watched one video and got it. Kitchener definitely takes more time.

As a new sock knitter - as in I'm making my fourth pair - and a pretty new knitter in general, this was an amazing video! I didn't know there was a way besides toe up or Kitchener, which I have to look up a video for every. Single. Time. I'm excited to try all three techniques :) thank you!

this was a great video!!! Thanks so much! I literally had a sock that all I had to do was close the toe and I put it off for about 3 months but after watching the 3 ways to close I did the Russian graft and it worked great! Hoping I can try the Finchley graft another time! Thanks again!

I just tried the zigzag on double points and it was a pain dealing with the needles. I was wondering if you could put all the stitches on one needle, alternating them, and work them that way. Then it would be a 2 needle bind off with k1p1. I may try that with the next sock.

My biggest, i don't get it, finchley moment is with a fully completed sock, how do you turn you sock inside out & be able pull everything. Sock & needles thru the little toe opening.

I'm normally working with two circular needles. So first I put the tips through the opening so they're in side the ok and then turn them inside out from the cuff. If I were using DPN I'd probably put the stitches in some waste thread or barber cord and turn them inside out.

I always feel like a weirdo, I actually like kitchener. But I really despise the fiddliness of top down knitting, and since I usually knit shorties for myself, it's all fiddly. I just switched to toe-up to avoid it and now I miss grafting.

I don’t think you’re a weirdo. My confession: I’m fine with Kitchener stitch. And I really like grafting in general.
Next week is my toe up video where I show a different way to start a toe up sock.
