- Mark Cavendish wants to beat Eddy Merckx's 2024 Tour de France stage win record, and to that end he's preparing better than ever in Greece to avoid any connection to doping. However, one of his and Alexandre Vinokourov's sponsors has been caught cheating in a masters competition with mechanical doping in a hilarious story that deserves a video on this humble channel.

Clarification : We don't know if Iera ran over the race director, it could be someone else under him or a paid employee. The race director supposedly did not identify who was driving. Anyway, a story to tell the grandchildren.
"older than a forrest." 😂😂😂
as a 54 year old I felt slightly offended. Will not be surprised by loud bicycles in next gran fondo though 🙂

What cracks me up is that whoever the narrator is knows a crap ton about cycling and professional road cycling and is likely a huge fan and cyclist himself. He just uses his powers of cycling knowledge for satire (or does he?)

@@TheRst2001 hell no, he is one of the biggest shammy sniffers of all time.
sounds like a paid voice narrator, doesn’t necessarily have to be the person that writes the video’s transcripts
Have I missed something? I assumed from the video title and pic that this was about to reveal Mark Cavendish uses a motor in his bicycle. Watched the whole vid and saw no such evidence. 🤷♂️
It's called clickbait.
@@Sdakouls3 yeah I know. Absolutely pointless video really, gives the impression someone is using a hidden motor, then provides absolutely zero content to back it up.
sounds more like libal to me claiming someone had a motor in his bike, with no proof! claiming he jumped in his van and ran over the race director, with no proof of him even being in the van ! puting a picture of cavindish on the front claiming motor doping, i would assume it was cav. the only motor here was your mouth ! and that sounded like a dr seuss narrated book .
The shadiest cyclist must have a large umbrella!
Ha ha, I like this. Chinese proverb-esque. And Chinese know a thing about doing 😂
Bravo, this was brilliant. I thought it was impossible for you to expose any new names (cheats), but you introduced me to a new scoundrel, Iera. Any rider, doctor, coach, DS or sponsor associated with Vino, past or present is dirty!
Yes dude, Vino is the cleanest guy ever in cycling history. Lavenu, Jan, Iglinskiy, Ferrari, Martinelli or Iera among others could told ya!
Vino was an amazing cyclist. He was caught cheating but I am not sure he was any dirtier than the rest of the peloton at the time. And it appears that he won the Olympics clean (well they did all sorts of possible checks). You can think of how many youngsters took up cycling in his native Khazachstan just because of him. It’s not an excuse but still…
@@borisgurevich5504 supposedly he "bought" that Olympic title, and watching the film supports that claim. He doped, he runs a "team of last resort" for dopers (the list is long) and all his best buddies in the sport are doped, running doped teams. There should be no place in the sport for people like him, Gianetti, Erzin, Riis . . .
If 1 is caught with an electric bike you can be certain loads of others are also cheating with electric bikes
Are you going to be able to top this one? Good stuff, thanks.

When it comes to scummy behavior, Vinokourov seems to be on a different league even in comparison to the most notorious dopers. I'm kind of surprised that you haven't made a video about his illustrious career yet.
Thanks man for cooking up that Astana vid! It’s even more ridiculous than i envisioned

I could be wrong, but I think this was a Dane-free episode!
Still a belter, mind, as usual.
Got to go and sort out the 'canopy', mooting with Treebeard later. 53, 'older than a forest' 🤣!

Cycling Highlights...heres one for you to spot on ... Thomas Weisal of the 90's SUBARU / MONTGOMERY CYCLING TEAM . US based team caught cheating at Finance as well . On his team ? "World Masters Champ" Glenn Winkle who didn't have to train hard to get to Top Level . Yes now it all makes sense....
Satire is good but lots of unproven innuendo is thrown around. There is zero proof that Cav did anything wrong. He has mingled with dopers and doping facilitators? That’s hardly proves anything. And by the way building, owning and running a business does require lots of work. A friend of mine used to own a restaurant, and he struggled to find time to sleep.
Yes, because all teamates of Ulle, Lance, Mayo, Escartin, Virenque were clean so now, Wiggins and Froome teamates are clean. That's amazing.

Both stage wins and primes should only count when the rider finishes the race or tour. Just saying...
Wouldn't be practical to have 21 podium ceremonies on the last day, not to mention would be a bit weird celebrating a rider who came maybe 2nd or 3rd as winning the stage.

dude while it is reasonable and warranted to be sceptical about Pro riders - you literally paint EVERYONE in the Pro peloton as a doper - I would suggest there has been some improvement since the dark days of Lance and Froome and agree MORE needs to still be done - Pog-a-Bike winning the Giro by 1h 34m over all his rivals makes you wonder hmmmmmm maybe I should ride Zone 2 as his "Doctor" recommends - still - you are going too far when you literally accuse WITHOUT SUFFICIENT PROOF every Pro cyclist of doping just because they have had success - that is disingenuous on your part - while you might get views - your divide between FACTS and opinion is blurred - some of these Pro cyclist might one day hold you to account for defamation and WIN
Lance did that
Then lost a lot of millions
And a lot of losers doped so not only the winners dope
It's just twitter and clinic nonsense put into a video, nothing particularly factual or real, but I agree it's without much evidence but then you should take it all as largely made up opinion and vacuous dots being joined to build something that might be plausible but always never is as Twitter proves.

0:47 yeah cause the rest of that era was clean.
Yeah totally, that is why Tzekos' athletes were the only ones who would not attend meetings where almost all other regular medal winners would compeye for the prize money. Have you seen this many athletes raising such huge red flags by suddenly transforming from utterly unexceptional to invincible like Kenteris did? We can speculate all we want about anyone and everyone doping, but it does seem like only Greeks were so much into it that they couldn't even afford to be seen anywhere between tournaments because they were sure to be found positive. Likewise, many were doping, but name another country that is so corrupt as to experience such a huge scandal like these two caused, yet the courts ultimately had the audacity to pretend to believe their hilarious traffic accident plot.
@@immatureradicalUSA ofc.
The Kenteris/Thanou story was crazy, one of the most hilarious ones in doping ever. If you could support a channel of doping stories in other sports…
@@Panagiotis-Skordilis The US certainly had many doping cases, but Thanou's opponent Jones actually was vilified went to jail. In Greece we had these two acquited and Thanou even making demands claiming to be wronged by the Greek state. Is a murder attempt against a journalist who testified against them usual too? Greek doping checks being done by appointment? Kenteris, Thanou and sports administrators being shareholders in Tzekos' drug business? Tzekos would take every athlete whose performance was absolutely unremarkable for years and instantly turn them to winners, as if nobody would ever realize what this meant. Not to mention the hilarious Greek weightlifting team that was winning in every single category for years until an unexpected WADA test found 11 out of 14 of them positive, their poor coach a victim of another international plot against hellenism for sure. So either other countries' teams weren't doping in such a collective and extreme scale, or they had the common sense to make is seem more believable. I believe it's a bit of both. The sad truth is that while doping is an endemic problem in sports competition, some countries have the additional problem of running state sponsored doping programs where indeed, almost everybody's involved, all because of some silly notion of doping the public with "national pride". These are not that many, but Greece was certainly one of them. So "they're all dopers so what's the big deal?" just doesn't cut it for me.
@@cyclinghighlights It only took seven years for the Greek courts to find them not guilty.

Why? Another cyclist was caught cheating with motor doping, he was fast and furious in the van and is a friend of Cavendish (and paid his salary)
Because it’s smearing Cavendish - who has never been charged with motor or doping. All riders have associated with dopers as the sport has been riven so unavoidable. Doesn’t mean they’re cheats themselves. This is beneath you.
@@68Bards cavendish is truly 110% not doped, he has the face of sincerity incarnate, hes just better than other people of course!

Did you ever race?
This is true. Iera, and someone else in the vehicle, are being charged by police after trying to flee.....'An extraordinary story has emerged from the long-running French amateur stage race Routes de l’Oise, where the rider placed third overall heading into the final stage was reportedly suspected of motor doping and subsequently ran down the race director in his car in an attempt to escape detection.
Giovambattista Iera, a 53-year-old Italian cyclist and former actor, had been suspected of cheating by both the race organisers and his fellow competitors after an attack on Saturday’s second stage saw him close a big gap to the breakaway. With strange noises allegedly heard from his bike, the Italian was reportedly asked to present his bike by race director Frédéric Lenormand on the morning of Monday’s fourth and final stage, but he reportedly fled to a nearby vehicle and looked to make his exit.
......
After Iera had been approached by race officials on Monday morning and subsequently fled the scene, his AC Bellaingeoise team was excluded from the final stage, with the team’s manager ensuring that they did not know of Iera’s alleged deception. The team have subsequently suspended Iera and his personal coach, a fellow rider and former professional named Miguel Ubeto, from the outfit.
“We had suspicions about potential cheating,” explained Lenormand himself, the president of the race and current race director. “I wanted to hold him back but he fled. He hit me with his car and I did a hundred metres on his hood. It could have been much worse”
