Want to let you know that you helped a 45+ year old male, just make curtains, so he can surprise his wife when she returns home from her overseas trip. The tips you showed are great. Never thought about ironing to hold the crease and the double fold. So simple and yet it's not common sense for the uneducated beginner. ^_^ So glad I watch this. Thanks!
Nothing but relevant information in a quick & understandable video. I went from overwhelmed to confident in just 3 minutes. You've given me a quality lesson and quality curtains. Thank you _sew_ much!!
I am a guy and have started sewing as a hobby. I needed some curtains for my man cave, so I used some old king size bedsheets and made curtains. All just by following this video, she made it look so easy! Saved me $$
Thank you for this awesome tutorial. I don’t have a sewing machine. My sewing skills are minimal to nonexistent. I got advice from a DIY home decorating expert. Your tutorial is certainly enlightning.
Love this! As it turns out, you CAN sew up a curtain after watching a 3 minute UA-cam video! Love how simple your videos are! ❤️ This was my first time sewing anything and it turns out to be great! Thank you 🤗❤️
First I used your DIY Box Cushion video to cover all the cushions in our vintage camper, now onto the curtains. Thank you, Clara! Couldn't have done it without you :)
I'm a 63 year old guy that just took up sewing and love it. Thanks for this video it was easy to learn from you. I watched this last night and tonight have a new curtain in my bedroom and it came out well too.👍🏻
A big thank you goes to YOU! I followed step by step your tutorial, and now I no longer have to look at my electrical panel. Now I will make curtains for every occasion!
Did you know there is a magnetic curtain rod you can use? We got them at WalMart. Works great. Also use for front steel doors that have a window opening.
Hi! thank you so much for this step by step easy tutorial. I JUST finished a set of curtains for over my sink. I watched your video all through the project... you made my afternoon an absolute pleasure.
Thank you so much for the video now I'm fixing to make these for my kitchen. I've looked at 40 videos and yours is the best one on UA-cam. Exactly what I want too. Thanks, babe be safe.
I knew these were easy, just making basic hems, but you've spelled everything out so clearly and simply. Thank you SO much for having made this video. I need curtains for my daughter's room! Headed to the fabric store tonight.
Thank you so much for posting this. I have been learning to sew since the start of the pandemic and i don’t like using pins. I never thought to iron the fabric. I made curtains last night and they turned out better than i imagined. Thank you so much!!!!!!
Glad it was helpful! I really don't like using pins either, so I got sewing clips. We don't sell them right now (although we are working on it!) but they were a huge game changer!
I have been a self taught seamstress and just wanted to make sure I was doing it correctly, because it is not for me but my daughter-in-law and wanted it to be correct. Thank you.
One of the best, most succinct explanation and demonstration of this curtain type. Thank you. I will certainly give it a try and check out your other videos.
Thanks for the simple and clear instructions. I successfully made my curtains in an afternoon. So proud of myself(even though I know they were super simple)!
This is a great, easy curtain. I've been looking for kitchen curtains and don't like what I'm finding. Now, I can buy the fabric I want and make my own. Cool video

Great video! I’m making my first curtains. I learned that some of my assumptions were accurate but you taught me some steps that I was unaware of. Thank you
Thank you for this, I am making curtains for the first time this weekend for my dad. I have been toying around with different ideas in my head something similar to this was what I was thinking, but I wasn't sure exactly how to pull it off. Excellent video! Thank you again so much.
Thanks for the video. Going to try and make some curtains for our travel camper and replace the metal blinds. This looks easy enough but I am new to sewing so it will be a task I'm sure.
Thank you for the tutorial! I made a curtain today following your instructions. I think adding a few more inches to the width would make the curtain look more "wavy" and professional. Mine looks kind of flat. It serves its purpose, though. Very simple and fast to make!

Thank you so much for sharing this helpful tutorial. This is gonna be my first DIY curtain Can’t afford to hire someone for my 2 big full coverage window. The quote price is crazy high!
Note to self: Don't forget to prewash! I totally spaced it this time. I also looked up different videos on how to cut a really really big piece of fabric straight because I think when I cut, it's straight, but it might not be (probably isn't!). BUT I DID invest in a rotary cutter and mat and clear plastic ruler and they are sososososo helpful!!!!!!!!!
Excellent tutorial! Please advise how I choose the size of the panel? I'm making a drape with 4 panels to cover the open front of pantry shelves. Thanks!
This video is so helpful! I plan to buy curtains and pinch the top myself, but I couldn't get started just to think about how to pinch it right. This video makes things so simple. I have to connect two store bought panels together to be wide enough for the windows. Do you have a video on this? Thanks.
Great video and you make it seem more simple than I was imagining PLUS I thought I needed to line my valance for the weight. I'm thinking not if I can find the fabric I want in a heavier weight. Thanks!!
This is super easy and I never even knew it, I dont think I'll ever buy curtains again! Can get really suitable fabric on the discount table for 4 bucks whereas if I bought the already made curtainn it would be like 30 bucks. Plus its cool to say I made my own curtains!
Hello thank you for your video it’s very helpful. I just have a question. Are your measurements for right at the top of the widow or are they for a few inches above it? So say I want my curtain to be 27 1/2 wide and 26 1/2 high that’s giving me 2 inches above the window and 2 inches below as well as 2 inches on each side. So would I still do the added 4 wide and 12 high? Sorry if this is a stupid question I just stated to sew on Saturday!!!! Please and thank you for the help!!
Check out the written instructions! They should help you figure out what you need for your particular curtain - www.onlinefabricstore.net/makersmill/how-to-make-rod-pocket-curtains/
Good job with this! Probably should make clear that you need to make 2 panels per window. These directions work for 1 of the panels. Repeat for full curtains. :-)
Great tutorial. You make it look so simple. I feel confident now. I definitely can't wait to try and see how my curtains come out. I just spend a lot of money buying curtains for my home. Glad I ran in to your tutorial on Pinterest.
It is going to depend on the project and the fabric. With most fabrics, there will be an obvious way that you want the fabric to hang (so the pattern is facing upwards) If there is no pattern, you should orient the fabric whatever way you need to in order to use the least amount of fabric possible so you can save some $$.
It depends on how full you want your curtains! Check out this drapery calculator to help figure out what you need - www.onlinefabricstore.com/drapery-yardage-calculator.aspx
We recommend 1 1/2 to 2 times the width of the window. For this particular style of curtain, the lower end of that generally works better because the fabric can only bunch up so far when open.
I'm wondering if there is a reason for the double fold at the top and bottom? Wouldn't folding once achieve a "pocket" at the top? Just asking because I have a limited about a fabric to make 6 panels out of, and I'm cutting it close! Thank you for the video!
The double fold isn't necessary so you'd be fine with just folding once and tucking under the raw edge. For a lot of curtains, it looks better if the header at the top is thicker and stiffer, but for this style, it doesn't matter. It might even scrunch up better with the thinner header. The reason for the double fold at the bottom is curtains tend to hang better with a little weight at the bottom so the extra fold gives it a little more weight. But it's not necessary if you're short on material. Good luck!
Can I use a flat bed sheet instead of drapery fabric and get the same results? Not after block outs or anything just can't find any decent fabric in the theme I want

How do you compensate for curtains with mid brackets
If you make 2 panels, a center bracket should be fine.

I have a plaid type shower curtain i want to make into a window valance what do i do with the button holes at the top?
Hi Beth, You can either cut them off or fold them to the back to hide them.
Do u have a video of how to use a shower curtain to make a valance
What multiplier do you use when deciding how wide to make the curtains in comparison to the the width of the window?
We recommend 1 1/2 to 2 times the width of the window. For this particular style of curtain, the lower end of that generally works better because the fabric can only bunch up so far when open.
I'm wondering if there is a reason for the double fold at the top and bottom? Wouldn't folding once achieve a "pocket" at the top? Just asking because I have a limited about a fabric to make 6 panels out of, and I'm cutting it close! Thank you for the video!

The reason for the double fold at the bottom is curtains tend to hang better with a little weight at the bottom so the extra fold gives it a little more weight. But it's not necessary if you're short on material. Good luck!
Thank you for the great primer. Should I leave the selvage edge of the fabric on or cut it off?
That is personal preference. I usually take it off, but with this project you could probably hind a way to hide it in your seam allowances.
So helpful! Thanks for sharing. Whipped some up in an afternoon.
I have a double window I would like to do this for. Would you recommend doing one long valance or doing 2
Hi Rona, We'd suggest one piece for a valance since it won't be opening and closing. (For curtains, 2 panels would work best.)
What kind of fabric are you using ?
Can I use a flat bed sheet instead of drapery fabric and get the same results? Not after block outs or anything just can't find any decent fabric in the theme I want
Sure, a sheet would work!
Very simple...will be doing this
Could you also use the tape that you iron like shown in the grommet video?
Angela Cochneuer Yes, that would work well for this curtain too.
Thanks!
Awesome video. Very detailed. Thank you so much
I just did this! Woooow!
