    Want to let you know that you helped a 45+ year old male, just make curtains, so he can surprise his wife when she returns home from her overseas trip. The tips you showed are great. Never thought about ironing to hold the crease and the double fold. So simple and yet it's not common sense for the uneducated beginner. ^_^ So glad I watch this. Thanks!

    Hello thank you for your video it’s very helpful. I just have a question. Are your measurements for right at the top of the widow or are they for a few inches above it? So say I want my curtain to be 27 1/2 wide and 26 1/2 high that’s giving me 2 inches above the window and 2 inches below as well as 2 inches on each side. So would I still do the added 4 wide and 12 high? Sorry if this is a stupid question I just stated to sew on Saturday!!!! Please and thank you for the help!!

    • @onlinefabricstore
      @onlinefabricstore  3 роки тому +1

      It is going to depend on the project and the fabric. With most fabrics, there will be an obvious way that you want the fabric to hang (so the pattern is facing upwards) If there is no pattern, you should orient the fabric whatever way you need to in order to use the least amount of fabric possible so you can save some $$.

    What multiplier do you use when deciding how wide to make the curtains in comparison to the the width of the window?

    • @onlinefabricstore
      @onlinefabricstore  8 років тому +3

      We recommend 1 1/2 to 2 times the width of the window. For this particular style of curtain, the lower end of that generally works better because the fabric can only bunch up so far when open.

  • @InsaneWorkouts1
    @InsaneWorkouts1 5 років тому

    I'm wondering if there is a reason for the double fold at the top and bottom? Wouldn't folding once achieve a "pocket" at the top? Just asking because I have a limited about a fabric to make 6 panels out of, and I'm cutting it close! Thank you for the video!

    • @onlinefabricstore
      @onlinefabricstore  5 років тому +2

      The double fold isn't necessary so you'd be fine with just folding once and tucking under the raw edge. For a lot of curtains, it looks better if the header at the top is thicker and stiffer, but for this style, it doesn't matter. It might even scrunch up better with the thinner header. The reason for the double fold at the bottom is curtains tend to hang better with a little weight at the bottom so the extra fold gives it a little more weight. But it's not necessary if you're short on material. Good luck!

    • @onlinefabricstore

      That is personal preference. I usually take it off, but with this project you could probably hind a way to hide it in your seam allowances.
