I’ve driven that exact road 15:41 during a blizzard, going the opposite direction so up the mountain, could only go 40-50km I loved it, wife not so much.
It's really hard to describe to someone that has never been to this part of Alberta, how absolutely beautiful it is. While I never did make it to the Jasper area, I had the privilege of living in Banff for about 6 or 7 months way back in 1976. One of my major regrets is how little I really was able to see during this time. I'm old now, but I still dream about doing a western tour before I check out for good. This video only makes me want it even more.
As a snowmobiler, I love fire scars. Especially after the trunks rot out and you no longer have to fear getting brained on vertical logs. I’m sure the elk appreciates the edelweiss and the bears the huckleberries. Alpine meadows are delightful, heavenly.
As a retired forest Manager and a resident of a WUI area (wildland urban interface) I understand the risks of wildfires. All of the beautiful forest in the west began after wildfires. It is shocking to most to see a forest burn. People need to realize it is a birth of a new forest also. When people move into wildland areas build homes and business they must except the risk of choosing that location. Next time you drive through Yellowstone look at the new forest created by the 1988 wildfire.
This was filmed just after they opened the park in October so things were still really quiet. Thankfully, the gondola and the ski hill weren't damaged and the power to the hill was being restored when were there. Fingers are crossed that it is a good ski season for them. Hotels in Jasper are open and waiting for guests 💗
Just a correction on your info. You can drive down to a lower parking lot and hike the "Toe of the Glacier" trail. It doesn't get right to the Toe of the Glacier, there is a small river blocking your way. On the drive down to the lower parking lot there are markers showing the year the Toe of the Glacier was at each marker. Safe travels
@ You can drive your car down to a parking lot and then walk. It was closed for the season when you were there I’m guessing. It’s a nice walk. Always windy. Only once in my life have I been there and it wasn’t windy. It was after a storm, middle of winter, at night with no clouds and no moon. Just a black dark sky full of stars. The temperature was -40c or -40f but no wind and no one else around. Just the two of us. I’ll never forget that night.

You can still walk to the Athabaska glacier. You don’t have to take the bus. .
