My girlfriend wandered in to the room while i was watching this video and said 'why are you watching a man talk about a light-stand'???? Ahhhhh, the wonders of modern day UA-cam video reviews. Many thanks Andrew, thats something else to go onto the 'could possibly buy' list of kit 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
They've been a brand that always made decent value products that worked, but as you said in this review they didn't quite hold up against the more expensive options - if you really needed to load them up or needed key details to be spot on. Seems like they have improved significantly re tolerances and build. Thank you for keeping us up to date with what each brand is doing and all the tips and tricks along the way.
Stainless - Generally you can use a magnet to see if it is stainless. Usually a strong magnetic bond means that it's not stainless, a weak or null magnetic would indicate stainless. A There are some stainless steels that are ferromagnetic, but they probably wouldn't use that grade of stainless for a lighting stand.
Amazing! Could you maybe take a look at their combos and c-stands too? They are quite cheap as well. If they also hold up, i'm definetely buying a bunch.
@@gaffergear Super. If the combos holds up, I'll trust that the C-stands do too. I would like to add that I love this channel, a lot of channels have helped me understand lighting, but no other channel have prepared me to actually work on professional sets and not look like a total moron. Thank you for your work!
Just waiting for delivery, spot on about the head vs Manfrotto/Avenger - on rentals they have always made me nervous - also have ordered the KUP-120M - stand extension - so I can get my Lightstream/CRLS reflectors above first floor windows.
Andrew, would you feel comfortable using this Kupo with an Arrisun 60? The Arrisun 60 is listed as being 62lbs, but I’m not sure if that includes the weight of the barn doors and drop-in lens. Thank you, sir! Always such great videos.
Great review, thank you! I'm looking for a wind up stand that I can boom off of with something like an Avenger D600 mini boom. With a properly balanced load, would you feel comfortable booming out a heavy light 5 or 6 feet with the appropriate boom?
Sorry I dont quite follow. I meant if theres any casters for it. I have viewed the Kupo youtube channel and seen there are actuall casters for it. Im a big fan of casters on stands used on floors. Could you expand on what you mean that its not ridged enough for? I have no wind up stands, but It would make my life both safer and easier when using the manfrotto D650 boom loaded with light+softbox. I also wonder what the best grip would be to build a T-bar for hanging neg. Using a manfrotto super clamp on top of a stand is not super sturdy. I rather have something that had a wider grip around the pipe. But I guess its the baby connector that is a little flimsy. Perhaps there is a junior solution for this? Overall, I leaning towards using junior connectors as much as possible.
Will be interesting to see how these wind-up stands hold up. They look great here compared to the avenger. I especially like the safety mechanism. Maybe mix Kupo wind-ups with Avenger or Matthews c-stands and combos?
@@filmdetective you first statement called them shit. I am not saying you are right or wrong. But i want to buy another wind up stand and the prices are crazy from avenger and matthews right now.

Noted. you can use the CUP holder as a step. copy that

Thanks for the review Andrew! Love your reviews. Greetings from Switzerland :)

Agree. Anything 304 or better should be non-magnetic.
Thanks for your review! I was just looking at these from protog last night and wondered how they compared. You’re the man!
Thanks to Gaffer&Gear for your videos!!!
Interesting!
Thanks Andrew, another compelling review!
Love your channel. It's been so very helpful.

Combos are coming in for me too look at, plus the apple box nests

That's a great idea
@@gaffergear Well you can always also use a C stand riser from a detachable Turtle base
Hey man, I have a question.. what is the right way to put big light on this stand like a 4k or 6k or on a high cine stand for example ? Thanks

I wouldn't feel comfortable with anything bigger than a 4K. But that's just my opinion
Thank you, Andrew.
Thanks!

This could do it, but careful at full heights.
Review Digital Sputnik DS6 ?
Is there any wheels that you can attach to it?
It's not ridged enough to stand alone. As part of a cart, with other gear would be the best bet

Hello Andrew, you buy this over an avenger?
So far they are holding up well campsites to the evenger. I wouldn't say they are better or worse. It's just a cost thing
🙏🏾
If you were Manfrotto/Avenger you'd have to be a bit miffed by the visual similarities between these stands
Kupo is Sh... compared to avenger, no matter the price.
Too heavy, and it rusts a lot, especially on the grip heads, clamps etc

I see you are comparing brands but what how do you know that is the case for this?
@@RayValdezPhotography I don’t, that’s why I said on grip heads... but once a bad first impression it’s set, it’s hard to go back.
