In today's video, we create a simple "vintage" "tape emulator" using just Bitwig's native and powerful FX Grid. We create saturation, tape wobble, crosstalk, bass boost, noise and a whole lot of magic, using modulators and macros to end up with a nice, self-contained Tape Emulator device you can use on any sound in Bitwig. Hope you enjoy!

Whether you're a seasoned producer or just starting out, this video will show you how to build your own vintage tape machine emulator from scratch and take your sound design to the next level.
Upvoted without watching! I know this is going to be great. Thank you so much 🙂
Great little tutorial :)
I think the drive didn't really do much for the piano because it was so silent and not gain staged, right? It did work really well for the drums.
You might cut out the segment "Just very quickly recording a video 👈" around 9:02 (using the UA-cam editor so the video link and stats are preserved)
Great in-depth tutorial! It’s great to see it all happen in realtime as you experiment and tinker.
god damn, that piano sounds beautiful. i appreciate how loud you turned things up at the end, i think i would have blown my eardrums if i was in the driver's seat because it just got better and better with gain.
Wow you actually did it
sick, what a blast to make! Love it, made it, tons of fun! Thanks much!!
Needs some ambient rain and then a sax solo...
I love this, thank you!
You're so welcome!
how did i never get the idea its just delay that makes the pitch wobble? that delay already sounds very convincing.
It seems like setting the delay module to the minimum amount and having the wow and flutter random modulators set to unipolar would allow the base latency to be more predictable, and for the amount of modulation to be easier to apply (as you would be able to just specify the amount, and not amount and the mid point)?
I suspect that the reason the oscilloscope wasnt working was I think you were looking for the spectrum analyser to show the EQ curve change from the filter resonance?
Ahhhh yes that makes total sense! I wonderf if it would heavily affect the warbliness of brining down the dry/wet though as the wet signal would be more closely aligned with the dry signal. I guess on a tape player there IS an inherent delay mechanically.
And yes - that’s exactly right! Brain fart haha I wanted a spectrum not an oscilloscope
Nice work. Would have loved to hear it on a synth as well, but I guess I have to build now :)
sounds lush!
Very cool.
Perhaps a bit reduction would round it off even nicer?
I know tapes don't have (computer-y) "bits", but our ears like that regardless :)
Yes! Like RC20 ❤️
i really need to learn the grid way better.
Taches has a course on the grid 👍
