  • I found a 'hutch' at the thrift store that didn't belong together and bought the bottom half. Check out how I rejuvenated this piece with an unusual leg build.

    -Original Poem-
    The hardware was plated
So, as I tried to polish it
    I contemplated
And ended in a coat of clean metal primer
    Followed by the selection
    Of Rustoleum Pure Gold
This would make them look a bit finer
Light coats have a better hold
Finish this off with some clear coat.

You knocked this one out of the park....LOL. Howards' Restor-a-finish is remarkable but the wax finish is the true secret. It gives it the real finish that makes it shine. I have used the dark walnut on several pieces. It even impressed my hubby and he now uses it on his wooden work desk.

Absolutely true about the wax. The restorafinish does well with the scratches, but the wax is great!! Thank you ToddyLu!

Using Howard’s Restore-O-Finish was a game changer for a gorgeous end result and an overall hit on most of the scratches. I would have have never considered using bats as legs. I'm glad that you did, because I used to attend baseball games with my Grandpa and his best friend Uncle Lou, probably during and more than a bit after, this pieces' heyday. We got to point where I was picking them up and going with. The furniture was like this at Uncle Lou's. Thank you for restoring, instead of restoration! ❤❤❤

I don't like that the mounting block for the legs are so visible and for some reason, I thought that you would 'splay' the legs.

You might need to change your name from Emily to MLB (OK, that sounded better in my head than it looks typed out. But if you say it out loud, it kind of works).
I can almost see you giving a postgame interview, like, "Well, they really threw us a slider with that bottom-half credenza, top-half hutch. But we dug it out, put the ball in play, and moved the runners. Obviously Restor-a-Finish and Feed-n-Wax delivered big for us today, but it was a team effort. We really got creative out there, which you saw with the bats. All in all, the important thing is to come away with the 'W'."
You took a lot of risks and tried a lot of new techniques with this piece, it looked like. Kudos to you!

Yo Yo Yo Emily, Harbor Freight has a very inexpensive pass through ratchet wrench set. Just a heads up since it looks like you'll be making more legs out of the bat blanks. You slip the nuts onto the threaded inserts & because they're pass through you can tighten down an infinitely long insert. Great job as always Homie, Dirty Jersey out!!

As someone who has designed things, I think you did an incredible job on the finish, the legs would have looked better as 4-sided square tapering columns, with metal around the bottom. The placement was too far in, it should have been closer to the edge of the piece.
