I was new to driving food delivery for apps and I did and have been doing hourly, my area 15.75-20.75 depending on time and I still usually make at least $25, I have made $40/ hour. I live in the suburbs and I don’t like driving in the city, so sometimes I end up having more mileage, but most of it is highway on farther out orders. Most of the people tip around $10-$15 because they know it’s not a convenient drive and the area has a higher avg income. During certain times, I can usually take 2 to 3 orders/hour and make a decent hourly. With the hourly you can’t decline, so in my case, because I was new and I can’t decline orders, my acceptance rate is higher, so I get higher paying orders, sometimes. I tried the paid per order a few times, and I made less money because most of the deliveries in my area tend to take more time. I realize this is a very market specific thing, but there are other areas that I’ve driven before also where all the houses are spread out and surrounded by lakes and I was making $20 an order. I think I would do the per order if I was totally familiar with the marketplace, but I think I’m just gonna stick to what I’m doing because it’s really close to home and I think it’s less stressful doing less orders and not having to pick through them as much, but there are definitely times where it is not worth it to drive. Sometimes there is no promotions going on and I still make $30 an hour, but sometimes you just gotta call it and do it a different time.
Hi Mike. I'm new at the doordash thing. I live in Iowa City, Iowa. I did the offers and I did the base pay. The offers really sucked. I did the base pay, way more money for me. But, I'm new. 🤷🏻♀️
My experience with earned by time is that you get all the orders that nobody wants to pick up
Facts
How much is the earn by time in your area?
The 2 or 3 times I did it, that was my experience. It’s usually $12/activeHr+tips here, I can always make that - even during slow times - cherry picking to follow all my rules, unless there are no orders or just all bad orders, multiapping helps balance out slow/bad times or I go home… to work on other projects that don’t pay but need my attention. When there is a peak thing going on, the active pay adds it in double (so if it’s $2 extra earn by order it is $4 extra earn by time plus the earn by active time pay plus any tips). One time I thought that bump up might make it worth it… but then they gave me a stack and one of the orders had no tip, the other was $2… and they barely paid $1/mile which I rarely do… it wasn’t better than earn by order money wise and both orders were slightly complicated, I definitely would have said no if it wasn’t earn by time. Haven’t tried it since and that was a few months ago.
Same in my area! I turned it on once and it sucked!
I never caught orders with tips. But I'm in the rural south so they are tightwads .
Did "Dash by Time" the other night, I made $39 in 3.5 hours. I had six deliveries with a grand total of $4 in tips. The first dash was 11 miles into a different zone for 2 cups of coffee (the tip was $1). Not doing this again, we finally just gave up even though I was scheduled for another hour and a half, not burning gas to get shafted.
earn by time is for raising your acceptance rate. Expect LOTS of no tip orders during that hour. I did 4 deliveries in a 1 hour block. 1 of the 4 orders had tips on them. Trust me it's going to be used to deliver the no tip trash so use it only to raise your acceptance rate (if you actually care about that)
Just only use it during peak pay late night
Great point about using this for boosting acceptance rate so you guarantee your earnings floor while doing it. I hadnt thought of that.
@@GigGrizzly Just noticed they take it away after 9pm in my area and its not available during breakfast (i.e. they're only offering during lunch and dinner in my area).
they took EBT away from our market, they cited "abuse" cause they cant believe so many restaurants take 20 to 40 minutes to prep food for pickup in our area. They blamed us drivers instead. I wish Doordash had investigators cause I'd gladly let them do a ride along with me on the weekend for 8 hours a day, heck id go a full 12 so we can hit all 3 daily rushes and they can see how horrible the restaurants here treat dashers and the lack of respect for DD customers.
No doubt! Here in louisville, its so bad. I constanlty wait. Id gladly do earn by time, if it was 17. But its only 11 here.
Most of those merchants do it intentionally to cause the driver to unassign so they have less work.
Earn by time in my market at 3:30 pm when I looked at it was $11.25 m, if I look right now at 8:30pm it's $11 per hour. Either of them is a joke. They want me to work for less than minimum wage once you count in just fuel? Let alone wear and tear on my vehicle. My time is valuable, pay me for it!
Same here in louisville.
The biggest change they need to make is with customer ratings.
I’ve received two 1-Star ratings and there’s never an explanation given. That drives me crazy.
If someone is going to rate me 1-star, it should be compulsory to give a reason. They should MAKE the customer choose a reason for why they are rating someone 1-star. It wouldn’t be that hard to implement. Just make it so they can’t submit the review until they select a reason.
I’m confident my newest 1-star review was because the customer received cold food… and they received cold food because the order sat there for half an hour… and the order sat there for half an hour because no one would accept the order (until I did)… and no one accepted the order before me because there was no tip. Trying to improve my acceptance rate resulted in me taking a hit to my customer rating.
😢
Last I thought in part of their verbage is that you can't be penalized with bad ratings if the food is already late by the time you accept the order.
Agreed and it should take 100 deliveries not 100 ratings for that to go away. It's crazy
People love to complain vs praise, ie the one star ratings. In my opinion, every order a customer fails to even rate, the order should default to a 5. Your ratings can literally plummet due to a handful of people that nothing in the world would make them happy vs the 100s or even 1000s of orders that get no ratings. I worked in one area last year that was very clicky. I was getting 1s constantly or people stating it was never delivered. The other dashers were trying to get the newbies out of their territory. Stopped taking orders in that area after 3 days. DD won't look into these scenarios and they don't care sadly. Never had a 1 or non delivered order since 🤔.
@@DeboraConners I truly appreciate your response.
It's been DEAAAD in Denver. like COMPLETELY dead. Like 3 orders in 4 days dead. I'm glad I have a main gig
From a profitability standpoint for DD, do they make the least amount of money off of no tip, low tip, medium tip, or good tipping customers, or is there any difference? I would guess no tip and very low tipping customers cause more issues and fraudulent refunds. If I was DD I would run a trial on all no tip deliveries never being delivered individually, always as part of a stack. Preferably paired with a + tipping customer, where the no tip order is delivered last always. By doing this you might be able to condition a small % of no tippers to start tipping for faster delivery, or they might stop using DD, which might not be all that bad for DD as gross profit is most likely very low on these customers and not worth the headache of customer retention. Would love to see if DD has numbers on what type of customers are most profitable for them.
You can't turn down two orders in a row with base pay. Some of the orders I get 22 MI 14 MI 10 MI so on and so forth. If I turn down the orders that have the extreme miles back to back I'm done for the day. I have to go all tip. Also I do Uber Eats at the same time. The app is much more fluid. The customers are great tippers. The customers are actually of a higher IQ variety. I wish doordash would get their app as good as that.
I agree I do dash for one hr then switch.what I do in one hr for dash I can do in30 minutes with the other app only thing is other app takes along time to dish orders out tho but once they start popping its ON!
I agree with you on the Uber eats platform it’s the greatest man when you do get those good orders from the customers they usually tip pretty well and they actually have the intelligence to actually say meet at door. They’re going to meet you at the door leave at door, then you take a picture and you walk away, if they require a pin they usually are pretty good at giving that to you although I had one problem with one guy the other day I think it was last week he literally told me he’s never heard of a pin I just told him I needed it to move on with this order. If you don’t give it to me then I gotta go and call Uber eats support and ask them what I’m going to do with this order so he fold around in his phone, and he finally got the pin then he just looked at me he says oh thanks that’s weird I never had that happen and I just said you must’ve said it a few times that you’ve never had your food delivered to you or never got it Uber eats does things a little bit different than DoorDash if you quote that that you never get your food that’s fine they’ll just make you put in a code to receive it. Good luck.
@@user-jc4gg5bb5v I agree with you too. Today was a little weird though my phone service kept acting up. I think it was because of the stupid storm that we had but on a normal day. Yes I agree with you. It takes a little bit of waiting around for Uber to send you orders but once they start, it does not stop for a while they could be bad or they could be good orders but it’s very very consistent. The best part is you don’t have zones you can go anywhere you want and I can log on and log off when I wanna break and don’t have to worry about scheduling, I love it I still do DoorDash don’t get me wrong but Uber eats is my main app and I can sit there and decline and they don’t punish you like DoorDash
Pay rate for dash by time changes are based on the time of day how busy it is it’s never the same it hasn’t been
How many orders do you usually pick up per hour ?
Been on the dd waiting list for drivers for two years now. Any advice
NYC started 30 an HR in Dec. I personally love it, the pay gets adjusted on Mondays based on the number of Active Hours. It really makes sitting in traffic or a slow store worth the pay - considering you arent burning gas or causing additional damage to your car.
This is specific to NYC pick up locations ONLY. The drop off can be out of the city - which then leads to a possible new order outside of NYC that will not be paid hourly for. Uber also seems to be following their trend since I received a notification from Uber.
Great time to be a gig worker! Thanks for the updates!
I am in California and I also love our pay through prop 22. Ours is also adjusted and paid Monday too. I don’t mind waiting a long time because our active time increases and that means more money 😊👍
Omg idk how you work there wtg.
@@legendvalleypeople say it's bad. It's really not bad. It affects badly if you are a new driver and have bad ratings
@@uhasja DD here is terrible for me and many other's the 4 am to 6 am drivers seem to do ok. I don't use it much anymore. The more I drove for DD the less pay I was offered here.
The always change the earn by time rate depending how busy it is
All no tip orders but I take my time always milk the clock I deliver the food the time it says not minute early
During peak day, they pay you more by hour when you dash my time they don’t give you the delivery bonus
In my market, which is say 25 miles north of Atlanta during slower time to 1675 but all the other times is 18 and I think that’s pretty fair now I did hear Uber is going to really start watching to making sure you don’t go past like when the order was supposed to be picked up and delivered they’re gonna be more strict on that because now they’re paying hourly wage good
Hello Mike they pay by times now and sometimes customer does not pay tips not all the time sometimes here in California as a different compare but some customers really don’t pay at all
Almost all of the restaurants in my area close lobbies at 10pm so that time and rush hour is when I use EBT
can you address that driver is responsible for toll fee. On a 10 deliver I had to paid like 4 in toll and like 17 miles on top of that.
I tried it in the little Rock area, $14.75 an hour. Like others have said, it's not worth it. No tippers, long drives, and dd gets all over you when you're stuck in traffic. I literally got a call from dd saying it took to long and they weren't going to pay me for it. I was stuck behind a darn train. Another time dd got upset because they had the restaurant address wrong and maps sent me 10 minutes away from the actual address. Ummm not my fault you have the address incorrect. I figured the hourly would be a good compensation for those trafficy, long distance deliveries areas, but it's a thumb down for me.
I’m in searcy and just started and I only do by offer. Base pay usually $2 and for every one good order I get for $7-$8 I get 6 or more at $4 or less total.
Earn by time mode rolled out just in September here in New Jersey. Only one increase since it's rollout. 15.25. Anywhere outside of NYC rolled out earn by time.
In my area after ten p.m. on weekdays prettymuch all of the lobbies close at the fast food places, and the other restauraunts are mostly closed by that point. The lines at the drivethrus get crazy, so I will often switch to hourly. I've tried both methods at different times and in general to be honest I don't see much difference in the overall payout in any dash of more than a couple hours. I do still get a decent number of good tipping orders, but the kicker is that the people who actually do intend to tip well, but in cash and not through the app, they get lumped in to the no tip/low pay pile too. I definitely see more cash tips working hourly.
Example: Last week I had to sit in the drivethru at McDs for literally just a sprite and an orange soda, at midnight, and I was stuck there for a half hour, so tht was time paid, but I also knew I wasn't going to unassign, because the address was to the poshest hotel in town. I walked away with 45 minutes of paid time, and twenty bucks cash. One of the easiest $30+ dollar hours I've ever had.
Was noticing Saturday night (9:10pm) in my area (which was classified as Very Busy - dark red) they'd removed Earn By Time as an option (was there during the dinner hour)....you only had earn by offer available - cutting that support the drivers while they wait late at night stuff out.
What if ur doing earn by time and the give u 132 miles trip and it take u on your zone and a hr and a half away 😅 do u still have to take it
I've noticed the earn by time increase when there is a peak pay. Whatever the peak pay is, it doubles on earn by time mode which adds to the per hour pay. I.E, peak pay: $15/ active hrs.
Peak/bonus pay: $3
Total peak pay (earn by time) $21
Because the peak bonus/pay of $3 doubles and adds to the base hr pay. Only applies to earn by time mode
To clarify, the peak bonus you would get on earn per order mode ($3) doubles on earn by time mode ($6) and adds to the base ($15/active hr.) To make it $21
Our bases pay here is usually $2, occasionally I will get a $3 base pay or $4.50 base pay.
Im excited about this
Still the same in my Detroit suburb market. As far as I know, the peak pays are still what they were offering. Basically, for each delivery $1, hourly peak would increase by $2/hr.
They had a $19/hr earn by time here last summer (nova scotia, canada) then removed it in the early fall saying it was just a pilot program here. It was handy sometimes but since I had a rating of 80%+ and high acceptance rate I would get the higher paying orders (usually) and was more worthwhile to take the earn by delivery rate. Would be nice to see the earn by time come back though. Also I think they were smart, they knew not to send orders from restaurants with a higher wait time when you were on earn by time. As for peak pay, that's rare, highest I've seen that was $2 and its during like 3am
I think by the hour is good if you understand how long deliveries take.
In my market, 20 minutes from acceptance to drop off.
I’ve got a choice. $2.00 base pay plus tips. (By the offer)
Or same order, same 20 minutes, but base pay is $4.25 plus tips.
earn by time is still 11.25/hr here in Jackson MS, but in a neighboring zone it’s about 14
Is there anyway to talk to a local door dash person? I have been doing it for like 18 months and get so frustrated having to call /chat with someone in a 3rd world country that doesnt even know what a mile is
I don’t even see the option for earned by time. How do you even get that?
Here is the thing mike. Dashers only really do earn by time when they have no priority access or below 50% or below 70%. If your gonna get crap orders on by order your gonna get them on earn by time as well. But of you do earn by time when above 70% and have priority. You do get tips. You do get catering orders. You do get large orders. I do earn by time with a 98% AR cause i have also found that on earn by time doordash kinda doesn't like to send you on red card orders or any order that is gonna take a long time or possibility of you being stuck in a store shopping.
I've done earn by time twice, and I didn't get any shop and deliver orders. I didn't not miss them at all, not one bit.
Did you know doordash varies per hour rate by city and not state? Wild and frustrating. Like why do I get less per active hour in city a and over a dollar more per active hour in city b? I understand by state but damn.
Nice video....obviously as part of their lowball delivery base pay (in my area Chicago suburbs it's basically $2 a dash no matter what the distance) they needed a way to take all those base and low tip Dashes that no Dasher would ever take...i.e. this is garbage offer collection. The problem for DD is they have to raise the Pay By Time rate high enough to cover all the garbage so people don't get cold food (or canceled orders) and abandon the platform. It's a bit of a mess the DD execs have made for themselves. Bonus Pay is only there if they think they need it to get enough drivers - we got $3 order bonus on the New Years weekend evening but not before and its not back now.
Have to add an addendum, at 9:10pm (Saturday night) in my area I checked to see what Dash By Time was paying (alot of Restaurants are still open we're not close to drive through only yet..) and DD had removed the option in my area even though it was classed Very Busy! Not getting caught supporting Dashers stuck in Drive Throughs later in the evening apparently, lol....did not know this was a thing (not sure what DD does with garbage offers nobody will take at that point with no DBT Dashers available).
Explain the red card please because i ddnt know u had to load it before using it
I noticed in my area certain zones have higher pay per hour than other zones, and theyre all close to each other
Lucky you, here in Canada we dont have per hour option.
If one Dashes viva earn by pay…. Would one still have to file 1099 at the end of the year…?
I’m not sure who all got the email from DoorDash here in Florida but it states $2.00 is based pay on everything. In my area of Deltona we don’t have peak pay till after 9:30 pm
I worked 10 straight hrs yesterday on per hr at $13.75 but only came home with $120.00
Florida sucks…. To many drivers even the retired people drive a lot 😮
It did not increase in my area. Reno, NV $14.00 hour.
I just received dynamic pay, and I'm working hrly, I can send you screen shots If you want
earn by time is for the new drivers
I figured this out last year in my market
The most i have earned per hour on doordash in my area is $25 an hour. The base hourly rate is $16.
No shop and drop odres hit on EBT, that makes it unfeasible for me.
Even with $15/active Hr, it's only worth it if the population and wait times increase. Unfortunately, in my market place, Retail and Food Industry runs the commerce - so there will never truly be wait times more than 10 mins disregarding fast food.
I am in the Dayton/Cincinati market and I do earn by time because I work daytime only, Earn by time seems to be the only way in my market. One thing I do not like is that door dash does not show the possible about with tip based on the time that door dash says it will take to complete the order as it would on earn by order... Anyway Earn by time is awesome here because I had one order where I was going to the recipietnt house and was held up by a train, I ended up with the customer tip getting over $12 for that one order. I thought it would have ended up with a Contract Violation cause I had to wait so long for the train to finish, Luckily I still got the order there before door dash said it needed to be there. Overall was a great run.
I checked my offer by hour rate and it is STILL at $13.00 iin my area of Texas
We don't have earn by time in my part of Virginia
We have a couple of restaurants I wish they would automatically assign to earn by time dashers. No one doing ebo would ever want them because it's guaranteed 30 minute wait times and the base pay plus tips in my area are never going to be enough to be worth it so if doing ebo we are automatically declining them and hurting our acceptance rates.
My pay by time is 11hr..... where do you live man... oh pitsburg.. louisville here
The reason scheduled hourly peak pay is not shown beforehand- there is no need to show it. Hourly peak pay is just the extra peak pay per offer X2. $1 advertised peak pay extra per delivery = $2 extra per active hour in earn by time mode.
It ranges from $11.50 to $12.25 hourly earning in my area.
EBT has been pretty balanced in my area. Some orders have long wait times with med drive times and no tips. Some have long drive times with big tips so It all adds up in your favor. I haven’t had a ping pong short drive with no tips. The only thing that sucks is that if you don’t have a fuel efficient car, the gas cost will eat up your earnings. I notice that EBT will make you drive out pretty far for most deliveries.
my market went to 16/hr in april and then within a month they knocked it back down to 15/hr. i did earn by time a few months ago, did 18 orders 4 of them had tips the rest were no tips. needless to say i have not tried it again.
Me in oklahoma im new to all this as a dasher
what I learned today is dominos drivers make 18 an hour min.
😢 DoorDash should provide a body-Cam for delivery driver
It just means more trash orders that they need people to tske
$16.50 is our minimum wage in San Diego California 😊
Since I last commented that it went up to $14.25, it went back down to $13.25. Guessing too many drivers took the bait. I say hold out for $15, just out of self respect. Panama City again
It does not take a rocket scientist to figure this out. The goal here is to get enough percentage of drivers or enough number of drivers overall doing time. Once they do that they may take away the option to tip all together. Orders get delivered. Drivers make less money. Door dash saves money by not processing tips. Not real hard to figure out the plan here. Then walla guess what? Then lower the pay by hour Back to what it was. Or even less. Now you're stuck. Take it or leave it
I did 12 orders over 5 hours today on EBT and got the worst tips ever. Most orders paid me around $3.
Slashes out base pay yet increase Earn by Time pay. What do you think they're trying to do to us? SMH
this is probably the first time they've EVER increased pay.
Our rate is $10.50 per hour. No time is worth taking that.
My only way i can benefit off of earn by time mode is to take my time on trips. Every Active minute counts. Much safer than rushing and risk safety. Im on a electric bike anyways
Hourly pay is 13/hr in my market and has not changed.
I'm in Savannah, GA. I'm pretty new but I feel like I'm getting boned on miles. I'm trying to figure it out.
It’s the same here in my area. Cherry picking I’ve noticed is good for if your area has a huge amount of dashers. I was at a 72% acceptance rate one day and made an awful $32.17 in 4 hours and was on the phone with another dasher in my area who was also doing the every order to high acceptance rate and his buddy sent him a screenshot that showed he had made $130 in the same time we were out there in the same zone. I’ve realized being a too dasher you have to take crappy orders and you will continue to get them because of the algorithm realizing your a dasher willing to take low paying orders. There’s also the influx of declined orders by other drivers you face when returning to zone or to hot zones you face that the cherry pickers have declined that you then either take to keep high acceptance rating or decline and lose. From 50% to 72% I didn’t see a single high pay offer that popped up before or after drop off for $20 or more. I know this is irrelevant to what you were originally stating, but if you’re doing it to raise your acceptance rating, just trust my word in certain markets it’s not worth anything. Good luck and I’d do earn per offer and cherry pick to not waste time and miss out on money and destroy your car.
I've had earn by time change mid shift. So that remains to be seen.
Yeah, the only reason why they might pay more on earned by time that’s because they keep rising the peak pay still I will never do that. I will always do earned by order per order they earned by time and my town is like $12 an hour the earned time where I dash at is $13 an hour no way in hell I’m driving my car around for $13 an hour. I’d rather go do dishwashing for 15. I will stick to per order. At least I can see if I’m getting tipped or not.
17.50$ in Mississippi
My market is still $15.75 @8.00pm. No peak pay.
Absolutely if you're getting paid by the hour you're getting the no tip. It doesn't take a genius to figure.
They have to change it to hourly not active hour for me to do it.
Also you get the bad raters... Earn by time is really bad...
One last thing the beta app forced me into earn by time a few weeks ago. No option to earn by order. It might of been a app bug but I don't think so. I ended the dashes like 3 times, finally the 4th time it let me back to earn by order. So I think there may be some testing on the concept of changing it all to earn by time.
If they do I will switch them to the secondary app status and focus on uber eats instead of favoring them...
Earn by time when it’s after 2am and only Taco Bell is open. I usually make about 25-45 in about an hour those nights
They lock the earn by time
When it can work for you
I cannot stand earn by time.
Always sending me 17 mile or more offers.
Hell no
still $13.75 here in Pensacola
I’m about to just go pizza delivery part time. My market hasn’t been busy at all for a week. Meanwhile I could get 14 an hour, mileage reimbursement and tips. I’ll give it this weekend and I’m out!
I’m just trying to follow up. What’s all new on DoorDash a.k.a. their waiting list was long. Thank God because Uber sucks for me nine to 16 hour shift only have four deliveries per day.
Oh my God, is I active hours on Ubereats but we get the prop 22 regardless just can’t go over 30 hours on active time I don’t know about DoorDash they do the same thing but once my percentage grow up to 70% I should be top-tier, according to thesilver, the gold and the platinum goes
Ours is just state minimum wage.
I'm in the North Dallas suburbs. Ubereats has been way better than doordash for me.
ubereats is broken and keeps sending 3-10 drivers for the same order if anything over 5 dollars pops up.
I've noticed in my zone Queensbury NY that the peak pay is doubled for the earn by time. So you'll get $2 extra for the earn by offer but $4 extra for earn by time which is $20.25 in this area
That's how they treat earn by time perk pay elsewhere, but EBT can also hurt you for peak pay, say u get a delivery and the order is ready and delivery is only 1/2 miles. Your done in 5 minutes accepted to delivery. You'll be given $0.33 for perk pay at $4 for ebt, while you would've got $2 in earn by offer
Ebt tips was better over the summer than now for sure. Theyve changed things. I refuse to do it now. At least in city a. City b its atill worth it.
My market doesn't have pay by time yet.
Yeah my market is still 11 bucks
Hahaha! I am sure their legal team has a potential valid lawsuit and they are making these changes 😂😂😂
Earn by time in Florida 13 hour
Means nothing those bums don't care about anyone but themselves

I'm one zone over from you and it's only 15.50/hr for me
Ill believe peak pay will haopen again when i see it. Haven't seen peak pay since may 2023
I'm lucky to see $1 peak pay let alone $4 like in your market??
Lots of no tip 15 mile orders. Earn by time in my market is just more no transparency.
