@casselli Thank you sooo much for such a quick reply. After posting my question I realised your video was 9 years old...I really appreciate your such a prompt reply. Kaki must be so big now 😄. Love for Kaki from 🇬🇧
Why are you guys bitching?? The bird isn't in the cage.. like mine. His cage is small but he only sleeps in it, he is out all day everyday in the house
I have a cockatiel and a budgy and they are so cute and wonderfull and kakarikis seems like amazing and funny birds.Im gonna get me one of them too.It sounds like hes saying "nu åker vi".Its swedish and it means now were going.
You Kakariki is such a beautiful and funny bird. I have a Kakariki myself, named Tama, Maori for 'Boy'. He can't talk yet, but I'm planning on teaching him when he's a little more tamed.
*IMPORTANT WARNING FOR PET BIRD OWNERS* : The food that we normally give to the canaries (and other companion birds) consisting of a "complete, balanced and top-quality seeds mixture" bought in pet shops or supermarkets, makes the owners trust that their pet is well fed, but it is not like that: indeed the health of the pets is at imminent and serious risk. The owners of canaries, parrots, cockatoos, parakeets, cockatiels, etc., WE MUST PAY ATTENTION TO DOMESTIC BIRD BREEDERS AND VETS and keep in mind that although we feed them with such a typical seeds mixture, our birds are very likely in danger of suffering an unexpected, painful and practically inevitable PREMATURE DEATH BY FATTY LIVER HEPATITIS. Canaries, for example, will surely die at 4 - 6 years of age of the more than 14 that they can live. It is discouraging that in a time like nowadays, in which food is studied in detail for other pets such as dogs and cats, pet birds are condemned to die painfully and prematurely in so many cases. You have to warn people so they can avoid it! This deadly disease is very common in pet birds but owners usually don’t know or detect it in time. And we can not imagine that *THE CAUSE IS IN THE FOOD ITSELF* that we provide to our birds, in which such *a typical mixture contains low-fat seeds such as canary seed together with other VERY fatty seeds such as niger, hemp or nabine and, in addition, the birds usually prefer to eat the fatty seeds* so that their REAL DIET is unbalanced by excessive fat, gradually causes the fatty infiltration of the liver and in a few years causes fatty liver hepatitis and PREMATURE DEATH to companion birds in general. *Also the breeding paste and its pigments and the sunflower seeds can attack the liver* if they are taken too much or for too long. It is a cruel disease that progresses silently and, when its unexpected symptoms suddenly begin, they are imprecise, easily confused with other ailments, so the owners usually postpone the visit to the vet at a time already critical for the life of the bird (besides that not all vets are trained to recognize this elusive and misleading disease, even to administer lipotropic and regenerative liver protectors in curative doses, just in case it is that and not a supposed blow). It's a process of slow and asymptomatic progression, but when their visible symptoms unexpectedly begin (acute phase) the disease accelerates. *SYMPTOMS OF THE ACUTE PHASE OF FATTY LIVER DISEASE* : First, emotional decay or progressive lack of interest, hard belly (in many specimens, with a dark spot with a half-moon shape on the belly, which seems a "tumor", to see it you have to wet your fingers to remove the down), falls from the sticks of the cage that seem for "errors of calculation" and then lameness more or less accentuated (that make believe that they are by the previous falls, but both symptoms are due to that it hurts the liver), lack of flight and singing, the bird fluffs up his feathers or inclines more or less slowly; Then, within a few weeks and even in a few days, forced breathing with an open beak, remaining lying on the floor of the cage near the food, sudden spasms from time to time (which make people believe that the bird is "epileptic" but it are twinges of pain of diseased liver), abundant greenish stools (caused by biliverdin which if it's not fasting, it means hepatic harm), then black and watery (from hepatic hemorrhages), then a strange somehow purple color of skin and beak, an exaggerated appetite and the final "improvement" of a few days (in the last phase, the already degenerated liver becomes deflated by what seems to be getting better), after which it suddenly dies among seizures (which may seem a heart infarct). For the first symptoms the liver has already degenerated to 80% and only an urgent (and accurate) veterinary action can save your bird and revert the liver situation. If you simply feed your bird with the loose seeds mixture (even if you give it fresh fruits and vegetables and let it exercise, for example by letting it out of the cage at home), right now your pet's liver is degenerating, and neither you nor your bird know. *Without liver protectors, it is almost certain that your bird will prematurely die and in many cases you will not be able to determine its real cause* . Hepatic lipidosis it's not only deadly by itself when the visible symptoms begin (sometimes even it does not warn at all until few moments before the death). Even before the acute phase it predisposes the bird to suffer infections, as it weakens the immune system. Furthermore, obese pet birds have an increased risk of many other diseases, including arthritis, heart disease and cancer. Obesity in birds it's not so apparent but it's more dangerous than in other animals like mammals. For these reasons, in addition to administering to the birds lipotropic and detoxifying / regenerating hepatic protectors preventatively and routinely, breeders usually make their own mixtures with low fat seeds. *PREVENTION AND/OR TREATMENT* : The time to act is NOW that your pet does not have yet the visible symptoms. It is necessary to ACTIVELY PREVENT THE HEPATIC DEGENERATION. Fortunately it is easy to do it: *It's very advisable to substitute progressively (within some weeks, as per the instructions of the manufacturer) the mixture of loose seeds for some pellets compound food of seeds, fruits and vegetables (preferably those that already include liver protectors), because this prevents the bird from filtering and eating mostly the fatty seeds (but without insisting if the bird does not get accustomed to eating pellets because he could die for starvation within a few days)* . *And, whatever the diet, it is ESSENTIAL to add to the drinking water or to the food a LIPOTROPIC LIVER PROTECTOR that includes the famous carnitine (which is also indicated for humans) and / or choline, betaine, methionine, threonine, lysine (and it is very convenient to supplement with a DETOXIFYING and REGENERATING LIVER PROTECTOR with thistle milk, boldo, artichoke extract)* . The liver protectors are amino acids, vitamins (of which they have a protective effect on the liver, such as vitamin C), fatty acids and essential oils that remove the fat from the liver, clean it, protect it and favor its recovery. They are cheap food supplements and it is essential to add them to your pet birds diet to conserve their liver. It is something that professionals as breeders and vets know, but we the owners usually don't know. Even, it are increasingly appearing in the market compound feed for pet birds that don’t include fatty seeds and that already include several liver protectors. But *the vast majority of owners still confidently feed their birds with the typical mixture of loose seeds with little fat and other very fatty seeds... And their birds continue dying of hepatitis due to fatty liver in a large number of cases (probably, in most cases)* . Now we know that, as fatty liver disease develops from the daily food itself, it’s most likely THE FIRST CAUSE OF DEATH OF PET BIRDS, and more likely as the bird ages. Some web pages that I have found about it (in Spanish). For example, this page echoes the wrong food situation in which these animals are too often: www.timbrado.com/malnutricion.shtml And on this other page: www.veterinaria.org/revistas/redvet/n111110B/111004B.pdf it’s described that the clinical manifestations of hepatic diseases in ornamental birds are much more frequent than people could imagine and that in many cases they are not appreciated, progress in a silent way and when they are evident, veterinary action may (usually) arrive late. To remark that, in general, practically any avian symptomatology should be considered as if it were a pathology that could be serious, and not allow the disease to develop because then it will probably be too late. To do this, we must thoroughly investigate the symptoms, take preventive measures that do not harm (such as giving liver and intestinal protectors according to the leaflet) ask for advice from veterinarians, breeders, etc. and administer the most appropriate treatment RAPIDLY, but without rushing in the treatment or with the doses in such small animals. If the days go by and the bird does not improve, it is necessary to continue investigating and, if necessary, change the medication in an informed and contrasted manner. Doing nothing or stopping research usually ends up with the bird dead, but acting without being sure of what is done and in what dose, it likely ends the same way. Finally, it is necessary to obtain and confirm the sufficient veterinary experience and have the serenity to determine in each case whether it is convenient to hasten to do and / or administer what medicine and in what dose, or if it is better not to do and let the situation evolve without medicating for the time being, or according to the medication that has already been administered. And that a limp in a bird is not always an injury caused by a blow, but the symptom of a disease of some organ (usually the liver or an intestinal disease) that needs to be discovered and treated as soon as possible. When in doubt, change diet to one with the lowest possible fats (only birdseed, or birdseed with other low-fat seeds such as millet, chia, fresh fruits and vegetables) and administer lipotropic and regenerating liver protectors in curative doses immediately ... although nothing could foreshadow a fatal outcome. Acidcare also has protective properties of the intestinal mucosa and stimulants of the immune system. In doses according to the leaflet do not cause damage and will surely save the life of your bird (if it is not too late). Hopefully these comments will be useful to save your pet birds from an absurd death and to keep them with a basic wellness.
My bird often has green stool but he is a destroyer & water of plants. He loves since taken from market absolutely 100% grain fed bird to fresh food leaves...
but why do you keep him allone :c its a bird they always should have a partner or a whole group. I would never Keep my Kakarikis single. I always have them in pairs.
Sorry for my late reaction (understatement) not get a notice on some comments :-( dont know why, i am sorry!! He had a girlfriend the yellow one later after the video i do not like him alone eather. She was with him till he died unfortunately😔
The man and the fittest handsome, at the same time, he is keen on you, and especially when you extend your finger to the cage, his behavior is worth seeing.😍
✔️they are cute Love able Good company Can be really tame Can hold than outside and in the ❄️ ✖️need lots of attention when tame Need toys when tame and want to be very curious about everything so change a lot It’s not really a con but if you don’t want that than it’s not your burdie 🐦
This video was 4 years ago and was for the outside maybe if you read my bio there was something you had to know before you are accusing me of something!!! They have a gigantic cage
RamZter X on the other video’s you can see what kind of cage they have now !! I got lots of nasty comments ! But I am really good for them kiwi has died a year ago now and his age was 8 years so I quess I am not that evil like people say
Awe, I am so sorry to hear that he's passed away... he was a Gorgeous bird!! Don't worry about the haters on here, they're just jealous! I can see that you take very very good care of him!!! Ps. Is he saying "Stupid stupid stupid" when he's in his cage?? Lol
Omg i am 4 years to late to react !! 7 do not get a notice on some comments :-( dont know why, i am sorry!! Yea he is saying stupid, it is was his favorite word to be honest
i have the same cage for my two parrots. it's very sad you didnt get him a mate. it's a big big cage. mine are doing just fine. they aren't fighting over the cage. they even love coming back in their new home.
Jayce Miles birds don’t need a “mate” when the are pets. They consider their humans “mates.” Getting a second bird as a “mate” may end that close relationship with the human, cause jealousy because of the new bird; cause fighting, unwanted breeding, egg binding and aggression.
Mine has visited the bathroom. Now gets offended when give him his white tea cup as drinking water. Tips it out... I am pretty sure it's a little toilet😂😉
@@casselli yep it's his toilet... Get's super offended if bring it to him with fresh water... Has to be half full back of the cage and yep poops in it😅
I just got my first kakariki. I’ve got it 1 day now. It immediately bites really aggressively. And it won’t come out of his cage. Even do it’s open for 3 hours now. It flies around a lot in his cage and it eats a lot how can I get it so it will behave less aggressive and isn’t afraid to leave the cage
I have two kakarikis, a male and female, they were both abused and neglected and behaved much the same way when I got them. The best remedy is patience, no sudden movements or loud noises. Also, try to feed him by hand, which is a great way to build trust with your bird, and also allows him to get used to being near your hands. When he eventually starts taking food from you, you can try gently stroking his side or his front with a finger (my kakarikis have a preference for that, but they are all different, so you'll need to figure out what your bird is comfortable with). Eventually, once your bird has learned you are not a threat, he will explore outside of the safety of the cage, and will probably come to see what you're up to as they are naturally curious. My male kakariki likes to land on my head, though I am training him to stand on my arm/hand (he never stays there for long), so be prepared for that sort of thing. The reality is that they are very, very independent birds by nature, and because of that they display a wealth of personality, so they can never be 'tamed' in the truest sense, but you can strike a nice balance that suits both you and your bird. Hoped this helps.
Lex Luther wonderful answer. I think the first dat was stress. Because now after 4 days it eats out of my hand and let me stroke his belly. On with 1 feet he steps on my finger. While the other remains on the stick. Now it will go outside his cage. But will only sit on top of the kitchen block. And on top of the living room door
I had him when he was a baby i fet him till he was all grown up. So he had te learn to deal with me. And my female was older when i got her she had to need to trust me, that took a while with putting my finger before her or letting her eat fromm my hand. It takes a lot of patience and time but when u do youve got yourself a lovely companion. "And the scared part" somethimes talking helps and let him\her getting used to the finger dont push it but try every day and try it with a sunflowerseed
He is beautiful, I have a baby cinnamon blue pied male. Do they not like to be touched? Mine is not weaned yet but he is very hyper and spastic after he is hand fed LOL
I had one many years ago and he was evil haha we had a cat who was pregnant and when her kittens were sold she hunted around for weeks for them and it didn't help that the bird was imitating the meows of the kittens which wound her up
jawztv mine did that to but we had no kittens, but when someone walkt by he was saying meow :) but that was defently a very sneaky bird and evil :O btw thanks voor your reaction i like all the stories of everyone who is telling me haha
cassandra harms They are beautiful birds and I'd dearly love another but the cats we presently have aren't keen on birds, not live ones anyway lol he used to imitate the phone ringing too which was a nightmare, cockatiel's are bad for it also
Is it me or do kakariki's just not really like to get petted? Mine allows it sometimes but in general he's more playfull. Really curious birdie as well.
Not sure if anyone will see this now but i rescued a 8 month old kakariki about a month ago. Im struggling with her, she was never handled by previous owners and never come out cage. Iv tried very slowly over last month to give her treats through bars but she just climbs to top of her cage. I open the cage doors and she comes out quite happily and will fly around the room. She also chirps some really cute noises in her cage etc. Any more ideas from anyone who has them on how i can get her to tame a bit better ?
Can be very hard. I have now 2 budgies and they really dont like me and can do nothing with then unfortunetly. With my kak i had him out off the egg so was not that hard to let them be comfertbble
Gorgeous!! Glad to hear about the cage. I'm getting one in a couple of months. The breeder says they're just now thinking about it, so I have to be patient ... which is not my strong point. I'll put this on @pumpkinsfriends if you don't mind. I'm not sure what color mine will be, but I hope it's a s gorgeous as yours!!
No i dont mind at all!!! Patients is hard haha i know 😂 and sweet off u to say he is pretty unfortunatly he is not around anymore😪 i miss him a lot !! Hope you will have a new best friend for ever !! Keep me in touch i am really curious about him
I do not get a notice on some replays :-( dont know why, i am so sorry!! Yea he died, i was hartbroken for a while he was my best friend he was always there so now its quiet. He was so friendly❤️😭
Sounds like a ringneck but yeah I hope you've actually changed his cage, my parrot's cage is a bit bigger than this but it's still full of perches and toys even though he spends about 12 hours of the day outside of his cage.
cassandra harms, I also own a green and yellow kakariki, bought her from a pet store at 11 weeks old, she is very scared of humans and doesnt make a sound much except for the odd squark every now and again, just wondering if you could share any tips on how to help get her used to me and get her to talk abit? Thanks in advanced :)
XBLBoastful first at all only males can talk. give her apple and come closer to her. let her see that you are not a angry scary human!!! get her out of the cage . xxxx
hij was 4 weken oud toen ik hem kreeg, heb hem ook uit het ei zien komen en elke week kijken hoe hij steeds meer veertjes kreeg. ik heb hem zelf met de hand gevoed, kostte veel tijd maar dan heb je ook wat
Haaii Sarah I took hem every where with me. Then he can smell you and feel comfortable. I gave hem food with a litle spoon after 1month and touch him when i feed ed him . Than you can try to get on youre hand and give him a treat or sweet touch , im sorry for my terrible english beceause my i pad wont let me type normal , if u want ,you can find me on face book. Cassandra Harms.
I do not get a notice when people reply to me :-( dont know why, i am sorry for this to late reaction Sit by him and rehearse the words a couple of times day in day out and before you know he/she talks :-) Its a late reply i hope he/she already talks to you ❤️
sayed gafar you mean to breed with them or you mean to hold them. Till now I never had a nest of them and this one died last year so we have a new friend maybe we have a nest this year but it still hard
I love my two girls they funny and free and allways watching out for the nasty tickle monster ie me one is small and the other fat so i called them squeaky and butter ball
Sounds like saying.. Stupid.. stupid stop it stupid... Where are u. What u doing. What u.. doing. Mine asks what u doing cos we ask. Also fresh water is important-i love the way mine-he says that-important+....
Wie wäre es den Käfig, der sowieso viel zu klein ist, wenigstens mal sauber zu machen. So ein verschissenes Gestänge........Und der Boden sieht auch nicht besser aus.
Hi I just got a baby Kakariki about a month ago and I was wondering if you had any tips for maybe getting him to step up on me and stuff like that, I would really appreciate it
Hey ! It’s -karma- my bird is my profile picture ! I was wondering if anyone can recommend a travel cage for me ? I don’t know which one will be right for my little kayso , and I don’t want to get him the wrong one , I live in England.

Now we know that, as fatty liver disease develops from the daily food itself, it’s most likely THE FIRST CAUSE OF DEATH OF PET BIRDS, and more likely as the bird ages.
Some web pages that I have found about it (in Spanish). For example, this page echoes the wrong food situation in which these animals are too often: www.timbrado.com/malnutricion.shtml
And on this other page: www.veterinaria.org/revistas/redvet/n111110B/111004B.pdf it’s described that the clinical manifestations of hepatic diseases in ornamental birds are much more frequent than people could imagine and that in many cases they are not appreciated, progress in a silent way and when they are evident, veterinary action may (usually) arrive late.
Eater not water... Auto correct. Symptom of liver disease may also just be visible sign of diet...
but why do you keep him allone :c its a bird they always should have a partner or a whole group.
❤❤❤❤❤
The man and the fittest handsome, at the same time, he is keen on you, and especially when you extend your finger to the cage, his behavior is worth seeing.😍
What does that mean?
nice he is talking 😊😊
So cute!!!
Oh so beautiful
I lost my baby Mango in April, I would give anything to hear his funny little voice again 💔 but this helps 🥹
I am so sorry to hear you lost your feather friend❤️ there sounds are special😇
So cute !

How can you keep him alone, in such a small and dirty cage? Kakarikis are active, intelligent and agile birds, they need space to fly and climb.
Birdie Lover she care little it would seem, takes moments to clean a cage
Birdie Lover kaks don't do well living together
@Mozzman try reading the description
bollocks to you
Read the description lol
Would someone with experience write me some pros and cons about these birds? :)) Id love to learn more about them
✔️they are cute
Love able
Good company
Can be really tame
Can hold than outside and in the ❄️
✖️need lots of attention when tame
Need toys when tame and want to be very curious about everything so change a lot
It’s not really a con but if you don’t want that than it’s not your burdie 🐦
Most of the time he does. but mostly because he wants to fly
What do u mean
Omg thats so cute haha ...
Mine has visited the bathroom. Now gets offended when give him his white tea cup as drinking water. Tips it out... I am pretty sure it's a little toilet😂😉
Leaves half full/empty... Pretty sure is toilet...
Is hè thinking that you gave him a toilet 😂
Funny characters that's for sure...
They are little clowns for sure
@@casselli yep it's his toilet... Get's super offended if bring it to him with fresh water... Has to be half full back of the cage and yep poops in it😅
very good
Lucky strike 💕💕💕💕💕
He is saying
Stupid
Koekie
Kiwi
Oh ohw
"stupid stupid stupid :p" x)
Elia the Lorikeet hahaha yeah i didnt learn him that to say maybe the tv
How long did it take you to get your kakariki on your arm? And what did you do to get him/her on your arm... Mine is too scared
Casselli Oh ok i will try :) btw your kakariki is a cutie 🥰
Beee BoOp Beee be REEeeeee Me Like!
He is beautiful, I have a baby cinnamon blue pied male. Do they not like to be touched? Mine is not weaned yet but he is very hyper and spastic after he is hand fed LOL
ke dobro.....
So cute my baby kakariki squawks to it
Hi can i ask you a question? When you take your kakariki on your hands out the cage it always fly away?
I had one many years ago and he was evil haha we had a cat who was pregnant and when her kittens were sold she hunted around for weeks for them and it didn't help that the bird was imitating the meows of the kittens which wound her up
jawztv mine did that to but we had no kittens, but when someone walkt by he was saying meow :)
but that was defently a very sneaky bird and evil :O btw thanks voor your reaction i like all the stories of everyone who is telling me haha
cassandra harms They are beautiful birds and I'd dearly love another but the cats we presently have aren't keen on birds, not live ones anyway lol he used to imitate the phone ringing too which was a nightmare, cockatiel's are bad for it also
Is it me or do kakariki's just not really like to get petted? Mine allows it sometimes but in general he's more playfull. Really curious birdie as well.
Like mine definitely not hand reared pet-from pet shop...
Zo hij is wel leuk hoor heb zelf een dwerf papegaai hij is ook echt lachen als ik ga douchen springt t ook onder haha

I just got myself a kakariki bird how did you teach it to stand on your finger?
Gently with the vinger on his belly, it takes some time
Not sure if anyone will see this now but i rescued a 8 month old kakariki about a month ago.
Cute
I'm guessing it male from the size but is it male or female
Btw they look beautiful
Kiwi is the male with te two colours 🤗
Gorgeous!! Glad to hear about the cage.
I'm getting one in a couple of months.
The breeder says they're just now thinking
about it, so I have to be patient ... which is not
my strong point. I'll put this on @pumpkinsfriends
if you don't mind. I'm not sure what color mine
will be, but I hope it's a s gorgeous as yours!!
No i dont mind at all!!! Patients is hard haha i know 😂 and sweet off u to say he is pretty unfortunatly he is not around anymore😪 i miss him a lot !! Hope you will have a new best friend for ever !! Keep me in touch i am really curious about him
Casselli oh no 🤦♀️ he died ?! 😔. I got my kakariki a month ago and he is the same colour as your kakariki
XBLBoastful first at all only males can talk. give her apple and come closer to her. let her see that you are not a angry scary human!!! get her out of the cage . xxxx
Thanks heaps Cassandra :) xo
Wash wash wash... Remind me dishes or just wants his container refilled...

Hey ! It’s -karma- my bird is my profile picture ! I was wondering if anyone can recommend a travel cage for me ? I don’t know which one will be right for my little kayso , and I don’t want to get him the wrong one , I live in England.
Sweet bird. I must agree with many other comments here. The cage is way too small and dirty.
They know the camera is watching and they hate it.
