  • New England is home to several different theme parks- thrill parks, family parks, seaside parks, and children's parks. In this video, I rank my favorite amusement parks from worst to best. How do parks like Story Land and Santa's Village stack up against Six Flags New England and Canobie Lake Park? Watch to find out!

    2:30 I started laughing so hard when you said that the ferris wheel at York's Wild Kingdom was the fastest you had ever been on. Me and my nephew who was 13 at the time, rode that thing thinking it was going to be a boring little ride and it turned out to be a thrill ride. Man! That thing WAS fast! Lol

      It's worth visiting just for Roar-O-Saurus. That little thing is one of the best airtime machines I've ridden. (The other ride I really like, beyond kiddie appeal, is their Splash Battle. The Polar Coaster was the perfect ultimate thrill ride for my kid when she was 6.)

      If you ever get to visit! Canobie Lake is the best! Been going to this park since I was a kid, unfortunately because I and many others keep coming back the park tends to be very busy sometimes but extremely well maintained and clean. The author of this video has the rankings spot on!

    New England doesn't just love their indoor scramblers, they love their S&S Towers! Dragon's Descent, Starblaster, Scream, Downtime, Sasquatch, Double Shot, and Blast Off (yes, I included New York) are all within a few hours of each other.

    I've lived in the area for 30 years now and am finally going to visit Six Flags New England for the first time this summer! Living near Canobie for the past decade and a half, I never prioritized SFNE highly because people keep talking it down, but it's got two bucket-list coasters, and a couple others I'm curious about. As the area's only BIG theme park, I guess I should give it a go.
    The ones I have been to, repeatedly, are Canobie, Lake Compounce and Story Land, which are all just nice places (and Water Country, which I guess doesn't count for purposes of this list--I am honestly not much of a water park aficionado but I am married to one). I want to rate Canobie and Compounce a tie--they've got different strengths. Compounce has higher highlights (Boulder Dash, Thunder Rapids, a better water park--they used to have that awesome skyride, but it's gone). Canobie is the more charming park overall and is better for families with young kids while also having some good thrill rides. Oh, and a really pretty amazing collection of game arcades. What park that size has multiple arcades? Canobie has, like, 5, in addition to the midway carny sorts of games which it has in abundance.
    I was looking forward to visiting Funtown Splashtown on a road trip through Maine a couple years back, but the weather got kind of cool and drippy and my companions who would have been mostly interested in the Splashtown aspect nixed it.

    I’m partial to Lake Compounce because I worked there in 1999 and 2000, and it’s a really nice park. It was a lot different back then, and my second year there was when Boulderdash opened. I haven’t been there in years, but it’s 3 miles down the road from where I live so I drive past it occasionally and I’ve seen all the new rides they’ve been adding every year.
    I haven’t been to Six Flags since it used to be Riverside Park lol

    Atlantic beach park was great when I was a kid (late 90s/early 2000s) They would usually have 3-5 flat kiddie rides outside, plus the carousel and bumper cars inside. Also a big arcade, mini golf, and a lot of coin operated baby rides. They were never a big park, but it was a treat to go there every summer. They would also switch up the flat rides every year or two, so it was always exciting to see what would be there.

    Oh man, those pictures of Atlantic Beach Park are so depressing. I visited when it had the kiddie coaster, and while not a great park, it at least felt full of life and a great spot to grab ice cream and a few rides before hitting the beach. Completely agree with the order of the list. The New England parks have such a quaint and classic feel that's different from most other parks out there.

    • @CanobieCoaster

    Thank u so much for your vids. I live in New England and love water and theme parks. I gotta mention for everyone, quassy is really fun now for adults. And idk if it was the conductor that day but the little train ride went slow but then blew fast through the tunnels surprising my bf and I. Lol. Their water rides are def the best with small lines. The boulder dash in lake compounce was the best to me for years. But honestly, as of 2021, the boulder dash has gone so downhill. It's very jerky and in serious need of re-tracking. I remember it used to be fast and smooth. But twice recently it gave my bf and I headaches after such a long wait in line. It's a shame their star attraction is like that and I hope it'll be fixed.

    I live in old orchard beach so I’m around funtown and palace playland. A funtown season pass was the best 100 dollars I’ve ever spent. I’ve went around 20+ times this summer. The only complaint I have are the prices of food and water. Palace playland is a good once and a whole thing to do while you have the whole downtown old orchard during your time there.

    Good list…but I’d place Lake Compounce, Quassy, and Canobie over Six Flags. Six Flags has some good rides and a nice winter attraction, but is usually overcrowded and filled with riff-raff and troublemakers in the Summer. And yes, it’s too corporate and themed too heavily on superheros. Us locals miss the original Riverside…especially the Saturday night car races when the speedway was still there. Most missed former amusement park is Mountain Park that was on Mt. Tom in Holyoke Mass. Nice shaded old school park with Coney Island-like attractions and an incredible wooden roller coaster…the Mountain Flyer. I know it’s not a true amusement park, but you could possibly include the “Big E” which runs for two weeks every September. More than a traveling carnival due to the sheer size of the midway and all the other attractions of the fair.

    The funny thing about Wicked Cyclone is that it's voted in the top three RMC made coasters since ot came out. And it's actually one of the smallest. They just have such great pacing on it and once it gets going through the day ( like any coasters usually) it gets better. And Superman is always great. Even with the extra restraints.

    any thoughts on canobie getting a s&s spin shot since they removed their major thrilling flat ride equinox

    • @CanobieCoaster
      @CanobieCoaster  3 роки тому +1

      If Canobie were to go down the route of a spin shot, I think they'd maybe try something where half the seats rotated and half didn't since the park attracts a lot of families. Ultimately, I think they'd be better served going for a separate inverting flat.
      The park in New England I could see getting this is Six Flags New England. It's a cheap and marketable addition. And Scream has multiple towers.

    The other reason why I put six flags lower on the list is because they're Platinum pass is not as good as Lake compounds Platinum pass the 2022 get you into all of Palace entertainment parts in the United State's and New England is home to two amusement parks one water park and one aquarium. Not to mention splish splash in New York is also not too far away for a lot of people from Connecticut. And if you're feeling adventurous kennywood's only about 4 to 5 hours away from Connecticut. So if you're balling on a budget Lake compounce or story lands Platinum pass is more worth it then six flags.

    It's a shame that Boulder Dash gives distant visitors such poor experiences, with long lines that move at a snail's pace. That does take away from the ride for travelers, causing us to under-rank it. I liked it a lot, but while Superman & Wicked Cyclone are in my top 10, Boulder Dash is far out of my top 50. I only made it to 3 NE parks in June 2019, and I actually liked Quassy more than Lake Compounce. I know I'm being unfair to LC, but it was a bad experience, the only time that I couldn't wait to leave a park. I hurried to SFNE before their 4pm closing, and it felt so awesome walking into that park. I walked onto Superman in the front row. Quite appropriately, Superman saved the day. I totally loved my 2+ days at SFNE, one of my all-time favorite parks.

    • @CanobieCoaster
      @CanobieCoaster  3 роки тому +1

      I agree Boulder Dash can be a bit problematic for distant travelers. Since they only run one train, it's impossible to get a lot of laps per day in the peak season. And in the summer, it's near impossible to get night rides. The best rides on Boulder Dash are on Friday and Sunday nights for Haunted Graveyard when the line usually isn't awful. It also needs to be ridden in the front row to experience its full potential. Other seats have worse air and a rougher ride.

    • @OklahomaCoasterFan
      @OklahomaCoasterFan 3 роки тому

      Yeah, I did back row right after park opening, maybe first train of the day. Cold train, mostly empty, so it wasn't very rough, but not much airtime. Later, I waited out the huge line for a 2nd ride, and went for the front row, which was much better.

    • @CanobieCoaster
      @CanobieCoaster  3 роки тому +1

      Boulder Dash also can take a bit to warm up, but when it's running fast the airtime up front is nuts. The gauge is if you get airtime before on the boulder camelback. If you do, it's warmed up.

      I love Quassy dearly. The operators let me ride WW 14 times in a row without getting out when I was 9 or 10. It just was fun and has a great atmosphere with an INSANE restriction that SFDK is lucky not to have. Easily put it higher than Knobels in my park rankings

    Honestly I would have put six flags over on the list not much lower but I don't like the corporate feel of six flags and I personally think they have too much roller coasters. Yes, I said they have too many roller coasters. The last time I was there I brought very young kids and I felt like there wasn't enough to do for them whereas Lake compounce, canopy and storyland were great considering the age of my kids maybe when I have teenagers my opinion will change but as of right now six flags isn't even on my consider to go list.

    I am always thinking of ways to enhance that fun so the experience becomes physically mentally financially spiritually beneficial and rewarding. Example the roller coasters should include some kind of test to see how well a person may keep their composure under high intensity excitement. Like being able to write your name and address before the ride ends. I think would be a fun way to test one's eye hand coordination similar to astronauts and jet fighters. Equally as true all roller coasters today should automatically have an electronic system that is constantly scanning the track for weakness fractures rust and corrosion. And with today's technologies should be no problem to upgrade any and all other roller coasters which will maximize on safety so people may have extreme fun on every ride
