The sacrament of confession needs a deeper explanation from the Catholic Church. Here is the issue:
“Whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them; and whose sins you shall retain, they are retained”
According to the teaching of the Catholic Church this is how Jesus Christ gave the apostles and their successors, the priests, the power to forgive (and not to forgive) sinners of their sins. The Church further claims that during absolution the priest personifies Jesus Christ who is actually the one granting or denying the absolution. The sins being mentioned are sins committed against God, not sins committed against fellow men.
The Church has not given any detailed and plausible explanations as to when, why and how this interpretation of this passage in the Bible was developed. The Church did not decide this overnight. It must have gone through a process after which the Church finally decided that it was the correct interpretation. Who in particular confirmed that this is the correct interpretation?
Could it be possible that the Church erred? Another possible interpretation could be that Jesus Christ was telling the apostles that if someone offended another, and the offender asked for forgiveness the offended may either forgive or not forgive the offender. This is being echoed in the Lord’s Prayer where it says “… forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sinned against us.” We forgive those who committed sins against us, and God forgives those who committed sins against Him.
The forgiveness of sins committed against God is a divine task. The Church assumes that this divine task could be delegated or entrusted to humans? What assurance is there that the decision to grant or deny absolution is not influenced by bias on the part of the confessor. Of course, the Church will argue that it is actually Jesus who is being personified by the priest. This is where the detailed and plausible explanations are needed.
Jesus did not say “Whose sins you shall forgive, I forgive them; whose sins you shall retain, I retain.”
    PLEASE COMMENT

If substitutionary atonement and imputed righteousness isn’t real, or whatever, then what’s the point? God is just. He can’t simply declare your sins forgiven and forgotten thru grace without punishment. That’s where Jesus comes in. And yes, the lamb in leviticus is a foreshadowing of Jesus, as is the scapegoat in Leviticus.

CHRISTIANS believe that animals sacrifice don't take away sins, but only covers it, Jesus sacrifice was for the sins of the world, even the original sin of the first Adam, Jesus became the last Adam, and justify us at the cross, the first Adam disobey ( original sin) the last Adam obey ( redeem us and justify us)

A word from the Apostle Paul for Roman Catholics....
    2 Corinthians 11.
12But I will continue doing what I have always done. This will undercut those who are looking for an opportunity to boast that their work is just like ours. 13These people are false apostles. They are deceitful workers who disguise themselves as apostles of Christ. 14But I am not surprised! Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. 15So it is no wonder that his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. In the end they will get the punishment their wicked deeds deserve.

The bible before 1521 (before Martin Luther) The holy scripture said "we are saved by faith and work"
All of a sudden after 1521, "We are save by grace through faith, but not by works of the LAW"
Are protestants saying that we should believe Martin Luther's crooked interpretation of the bible and ignore what is was in the Original Scripture??

I’d love to see references for this, especially since the Bible makes clear in several places, including, but not limited toIsaiah, 64:6,that our works are like filthy rags. And it’s been proven many times over that the Bible even after Luther has not been corrupted. All one needs to do is look at the thousands upon thousands of ancient Bible papyri and fragments that have been found. I’d suggest watching “Fragments of Truth” for a more complete picture of how we know the Bible is accurate in modern day translations, if imperfect due to “lost in translation” issues.

      Nope....not a problem. Dr
Brant Pitre give a talk on this. It is on UA-cam. Called something like.... is Purgatory in the bible....well, it is referenced is many places. It is a purging of ,not sin, but the stain of sin. So , Purgatory isn't necessarily a "place" ,but , more like a state of being in which we are made spotless and pure, in order to be in the presence of God.
Jesus also referenced this in a parable. Brant Pitre shows/tells of this in his talk.

The church of rome was the Catholic one only.

1:13:00 Despite you claiming we live better than our theology, which is highly offensive and wrong, we live by romans 6:1. I’ve never heard that quote by Luther. We understand full well that living purposely in sin will not save you or make you right with God. That’s what our theology teaches.

Minute 41. Every Protestant understands that obedience goes hand-in-hand with faith. And grace! But we also understand that WORKS will never, ever save you. God is the one who saves thru Jesus’ death and resurrection, but our works are not ever “good enough” for a holy, perfect and just God. “Trying your best” without faith in Jesus is never going to be good enough.

    • @sarw9294

Mark 16:15 "And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation."
He said into ALL the world, to the WHOLE creation.
Luke 1:41 "When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit."
Even inside the womb John knew Jesus and was filled with the Holy Spirit.
The same happened here. Peter spoke and the Holy Spirit came upon the Gentiles.
Acts 10: 44"While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. 45The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles. 46For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God. Then Peter said, 47“Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptized with water. They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.” 48So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked Peter to stay with them for a few days."
If John received the Holy Spirit while in the womb no one can stand in the way of him being baptized according to Peter.
Acts 2: 39"The promise is for you and your CHILDREN and for all who are far off-for all whom the Lord our God will call.”
Isaiah 49:1 Listen to me, O coastlands, and give attention, you peoples from afar. The Lord called me from the womb, from the body of my mother he named my name.
Malachi 2:15 15 Has not the one God made you? You belong to him in body and spirit. And what does the one God seek? Godly OFFSPRING
1 Corinthians 7:13 "And if a woman has a husband who is not a believer and he is willing to live with her, she must not divorce him. 14For the unbelieving husband has been sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife has been sanctified through her believing husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but as it is, they are holy. 15But if the unbeliever leaves, let it be so."
How can the children be holy through their parent's faith?
Acts 16:33 "At that hour of the night the jailer took them and washed their wounds; then immediately he and all his household were baptized."
Acts 16:15 "When she and the members of her household were baptized, she invited us to her home. “If you consider me a believer in the Lord,” she said, “come and stay at my house.” And she persuaded us."
      Households were baptized
Matthew 28:19 "Therefore go and make disciples of all NATIONS, BAPTIZING them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,"
      Do nations not have infants?
Baptism replaced circumcision. Circumcision was done on the 8th day after birth. Why did they circumcise the baby if according to you the babies know nothing?
Genesis 17: "9Then God said to Abraham, “As for you, you must keep my covenant, you and your descendants after you for the generations to come. 10This is my covenant with you and your descendants after you, the covenant you are to keep: Every male among you shall be circumcised. 11You are to undergo circumcision, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and you. 12For the generations to come every male among you who is eight days old must be circumcised, including those born in your household or bought with money from a foreigner-those who are not your offspring. 13Whether born in your household or bought with your money, they must be circumcised. My covenant in your flesh is to be an everlasting covenant. 14Any uncircumcised male, who has not been circumcised in the flesh, will be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant.”
Exodus 13:2 “CONSECRATE to me every firstborn male. The first offspring of every womb among the Israelites belongs to me, whether human or animal.”
I can go on and on citing scripture, but this should suffice. Go read the early church fathers. Men like Ignatius of Antioch or Polycarp who were disciples of John the apostle.
