      Oh that's cool. Roses here in the Philippines dont have fruits or hips like that. Maybe because we dont have wild roses here. Are those edible? You're welcome Renea. 🙏🎨

Though there are some terms that I don't understand but that's okay there's google haha. Also, saying your honest opinions which I really like. Actually though it call itself botanical set I think this is a pretty decent set with some nice pigment choices. Maybe a few too many pinky purples but the rest are all quite nice.If Holbein do an indanthrene blue thats a nice alternative to Prussian blue. I would jettison the opera and the other fugitive pink purple too, and replace them with something more useful.

    Having enjoyed watching quite a few of your reviews, which I find very thorough I subscribed. Your skill and knowledge are impressive spot on with similar channels. If I may ask how you keep your painting so flat and which paper do you use for practice and for commercial painting. Does the Jaohong 10meter rolls compare with premium brands. Thanks for the great service you provide.

    • @AllanJayQuesada
      @AllanJayQuesada  4 місяці тому +1

      Thank you so much for your kind words and for appreciating my work. 🙏 Because of my heavy loads of work, I rarely practice. 😔 I go directly in the paper I want, whcih is Arches. But any watercolor paper I'm asked to paint on, i can adjust. It's just that cotton paper is really a lot more forgiving and makes mixing alot easier. I have the academy and professional of Baohong. Not roll but just pad and I think, they're really good too. If Arches is not anymore available, I can use Baohong. Main difference ive observed so far is that the texture of Arches is still more "natural" and random if that makes sense. In baohong and other brands, i still see or feel that there's this "pattern" to its tooth.

      Hi. Both are really great. Holbein is Japan's best, while Sennelier is France's ultimate aquarelle. I think, it all boils down to preference and your location. If you layer alot, Sennelier is best in that. If you're into bright colors and doesn't mind having some premixed pastel colors, then Holbein might work. Personally, i prefer Sennelier.

    Sir Allan may I ask if Holbein is better than mission gold?

    • @AllanJayQuesada
      @AllanJayQuesada  4 роки тому +1

      Did you see the side by side comparison at 2:50? Well, visually, mahirap mamili sa dalawa kasi parang magkasing tingkad sila. Sa dispersion parang mas gusto ko si Mission gold. If icocompare din yung full range ng isat isa, mission gold Pigments has more excitement and strength to offer. They have real cobalt green pigment, real teal, etc where as in Holbein they have it in hues or just a mix of various pigments. It also turns me off that thet have py150 in their color mixes but they dont have it as a single color. Holbein is very well made and is reliable for that. But out of the 108 colors only 21 are excellent in lightfastness.. in Mission Gold, i don't exactly know all the numbers, but they have a solid 50 colors in their line that are single pigment (the source of "pure pigment set") which most colors and pigments are excellent in lightfastness. And since my top priority is the strength of the pigments, I'm choosing Mission Gold.

      I wonder how paints react on not so humid places. 😊 Paints are probably safer away from fungi. MGraham is one of the most pigmented paints by microscopic tests so, that alone is a strong point. • @AllanJayQuesada
      @AllanJayQuesada  2 роки тому +1

      I havent tested any of my paints lightfastness.. but one good basis is to know about individual color's pigment code. Each pigment code has its own lightfastness tendencies based on various tests such as ASTM. Brand or popularity is not always the basis of lightfastness but the individual pigment used in each color. As per this set of Holbein, most colors are rated as excellent in lightfastness.

      it needs more greens right? even the cover painting is mostly green. aside from viridian they shluldve added olive green i think.

      Watercolors by Allan Jay Quesada I have seen botanical sets that contain no greens at all! Mainly because a lot of greens are mixes anyway, and most botanical artists prefer to mix their own as the synthetic green pigments are often very bright artificial looking greens. IMO viridian has limited use in botanical painting and a simulation can easily be mixed with a bluegreen pthalo and some yellow. A green gold is always useful, a touch of many blues will give a credible olive shade. A very overlooked pigment is chromium oxide as it is very opaque and fairly ugly on its own or undiluted, but in mixes with chinese/zinc white, naples yellow, or any warm yellow, even a touch of quin gold, and diluted gives a great range of very natural greens. As a secondary range of colour, like purples and oranges, greens need to be mixed and experimented with, few really good greens exist as single pigments. I like irgazine yellow as a basis for green gold and olive, PG7 is a lovely deep dark green. The pthalos need to be used with caution! If you just want greens that reflect non-botanical objects, say a green fence, or a car, then use the bright greens, otherwise mix your own.

      @@lindyashford7744 I certainly agree on everything you mentioned. I myself didnt choose a green in my sample painting in this review.. My personal Daniel Smith Palette doesnt also have a 'green' mixture, as i featured on my pre-spain tour palette video. I only have Perylene Green and Serpentine Genuine (because i love the two tone color). I think viridian will be good for cool surrounding touches say on pond reflections. Im afraid pthalos can be hard to handle as they're kind of strong. I love chromium green oxide too because it's natural, but can be tricky to some. Though i would always personally choose Perylene Green as a single pigment "green" though jts a pbk31 as it mixes well with py129 or py150 for natural green color that i love. But pbk31 may be too deep for some. . ☺️🎨

    Hi, Arch. Allan! I need your suggestion po. Which one should I get the Mijello Mission Gold or the Holbein Watercolors? I currently use shinhan and holbein in micro pans, I am still undecided wether should I get the tubes of holbein or get the Mijello. Because both are good naman po. Thank you!

    • @AllanJayQuesada
      @AllanJayQuesada  3 роки тому +1

      Hmm. Dati, i prefer Mijello a bit because it has a wider range of single pigment colors. But as time went by, i got to know Holbein a bit better and i was able to choose my own colors from their line. That's the time i started appreciating Holbein na. Since I handpour both brands in pans for my Shopee store, i got to know them even more. Holbein dries better in pans as it has no honey. It also feels that Holbein has a bit heavier pigment load. Mijello on the otherhand takes longer to dry partially, and it loses volume very significantly. Quality wise, i feel like MG colors are somewhat brigher and tiny bit kore transparent in general.. the difference is almost unnoticeable though. Holbein's texture is closer to Daniel Smith (my preferred brand), so i would choose Holbein now. If you are choosing MG, the best choice is the pure pigment set (a collection of single pigment colors). Thats one of the best sets. In Holbein, I'm not really a fan of their sets as i dont like the colors they put. Hehe. Better choose your own colors. But if you like painting botanicals, this set that i reviewed is not bad at all. ☺️

    • @AllanJayQuesada
      @AllanJayQuesada  3 роки тому +1

      I do not know the exact names ng every color, but what im more sure is the pigment codes of the Primaries. PB15:3 (usually Phthalo Blue- Green Shade), PY154 (Imidazolone Yellow) and PR122 (Quinacridone Magenta) pwede rin PV19 (Quinacridone Red) 😉
      The Yellows are not limited to PY154. Medyo maraming choices. Pero sa Blue and Red. Its almost only the family of PB15 and PR122 and PV19.

      Kremer pigments (who supply pigment to most of the known brands) has a landscape set and urban set if I recall. Schmincke also. If may pera, I think A.Gallo has a nature set din but doesn't have bright flower colors more of trees and animal colors so muted palette. Van gogh is releasing some specialized sets. Try ArtPhilosophy as well

Yes, oo nga, the Schmincke has an urban sketching set but i think it was called for urban because of the zigzap pad na kasama hehe. Im not sure if the package with the davinci brush is an idea of Schmincke themselves though. Sulit yung A.Gallo for landscapes and rustic themes, but yes, wala silang super bright colors for florals..more on muted and natural tlaga ung mga kulay nila which is expected from handmade paints.
