@@tirsogamboa so far so good, been working on some personal projects :)
Any idea what high school prerequisites I would need to major in graphic design for university?
When I was applying for college, they often require a portfolio with your application. Take and many art classes as you’re able to and build the portfolio throughout high school. It should showcase you’re skills in different aspects of art: drawing, painting, mixed media, commercial art, design, etc. whatever is available at your school to take. If there’s the option, an AP art class is great I focus on the portfolio alone.
When get you get to university, the first year is often the foundations year where you’ll learn design, concepting, etc. and then you move into graphic design: image making, typography, etc through the years after
@@tirsogamboa can my portfolio just consist of passion projects ive done over the years if my high school doesn't offer any art classes?
Yes, as long as it showcases that you have a background in art. The reason for this is because it’ll be very challenging that first year, since they would expect you to know how to draw, execute with pristine craft and be able to have a perspective on what you create.
If you’re school doesn’t have art classes, it would be helpful for you to have someone with an art background review your work, as they’ll have more insight on area to improve
@@tirsogamboa but what if I’ve ever only drawn digitally, is knowing how to draw by hand essential to my portfolio ?
@@Shaheer7X I think this is a little tricky. I’m sure it’s fine to include, but I imagine most programs want to see a breadth of work. I know things have shifted more digital these days. If you have a college(s) in mind, it may not be a bad idea to reach out to see what they’re require. You could also visit the campus, which is always nice
