Junior Seau was an absolute MONSTER!!!My Lord was he good,RIP.....This coming from a Steelers fan
Best usc defender?
RIP Seau and Greene
True! I loved Seau's intensity
RESPECT ✊! Thank you Steeler Nation!
Junior Seau took a average Chargers defense & raised 🤚 it al least one level.
I've always respected the Steelers. But they got what they deserved this game. They were making rap videos and pretty much guaranteeing they were gonna just roll over the Chargers without a contest. I listened to this entire game on my Walkman at work as a 21 year old and I was stunned and amazed at the Chargers performance. Humphries to Martin!
RIP Mr. Enberg. You were a broadcasting legend and will forever be missed.
yes sir and Junior.
Enberg and Trumphy were the sound of the AFC.
Always liked Don Criqui the best. But Enberg and Charlie Jones were great too
He was a SDn and a true fan of team....

This was a pretty solid Chargers teams, it's just so sad though that many players on this team ended up dying so young: Seau, linebackers Lew Bush, David Griggs & Doug miller, backup running back Rodney Culver, defensive end Chris Mims, defensive tackle Shawn lee, and backup center Curtis Whitley. That's a lot of individuals for one team.
Damn is that the most from a team from the 80s and 90s?

Favorite Charger game of all time! remember this victory as if it were yesterday. Still remember 65,000 of us going to old Jack Murpy stadium to welcome our heroes home. Great memories! I was 15 yrs old.

The Real Julian Edelman IM STILL ALIVE😆😆
He was one of the best tackling 10-15 yards down field. Was challenged in reading and stopping plays, many times because he would gamble on the play call. But had great pursuit skills after the other team got a nice gain.
Bill Cowher lost 4 AFC championship games at home, ironically enough, the only time he won the SB the Steelers became the first 6 seed to win 3 road games on the way to winning his only Super Bowl
thanks to the refs though vs seattle.
Who's hating, just stating facts and I'd say definitely better than Tomlin is a reach, Tomlin has a higher regular season wining%, they both have been to 2 SBs and both went 1-1, slight edge to Tomlin in my book

Junior Seau!!! guy was such a skilled player
acquired immunity He should have gotten a super bowl. Sad that he didnt
Met a guy who was on this Charger team. He said it was the toughest game he ever played in. After the game about half the team was in the training room.
He admitted the 49ers beat them fair and square in the SB, but said the game would not have been an essential blowout if they hadn’t been so banged up and worn out.
Still a great, great win for the Chargers this AFC championship. Few people expected them to win, but they gritted this out.
The Super Bowl was going to be a blowout no matter what. The 49ers were just a lot better. This was a tough game, but so was the NFC Championship, and the 49ers had to beat the 2-time defending champs; they were physically and emotionally beat up too.
@Tyrannis 07 I think you are pretty much right. The NFC was simply better during those years. Game _might_ have been 42-31, instead of 49-26 if the Chargers weren't as worn out. SF was just better. No one in their right mind thinks the Chargers were better. No way.
No one was beating the 49ers that year. They were a F'N machine. And the Chargers had two weeks to rest up and recover.
Kid 😂😂 49ers would won anyways
To the players no longer with us. Chargers: LB Junior Seau (suicide due to brain trauma), LB David Griggs (car accident), RB Rodney Culver (plane crash), LB Doug Miller (struck by lightning), C Curtis Whitley (drug overdose), DE Chris Mims (heart failure), DL Shawn Lee (heart attack), and LB Lewis Bush (heart attack). Steelers: OL Justin Strelzynk (suicide due to brain trauma). Just a tragic prologue to what was a classic game.
damn...wtf
My God
wonder if steroids played a part in the heart attacks? Athletes are supposed to be healthy but not football players apparently
Struck by lighting ? That’s a chargers way to go out
As a diehard Steelers fan...94 was my favorite team...if someone told me
Foster never played for Pitt again and never played for anyone.
Eric Green never played for Pitt again and barely played after 94
O Donnell would have a huge 95 season..better than any expectations...marred by a bad Super Bowl. And left Pitt after 95 and barely played.
The great Rod Woodson would tear his ACL in the 95 opener and never be close to the same player.
The great Greg Lloyd would tear his knee in the 96 opener and never be close to the same player.
Greene and Searcy gone after 95 as Pitt struggled w stadium revenue. Chad Brown gone after 96...
And three rivers gone...the new stadium just isn't the same.
Although the 1995 team made the Super Bowl, this was their best team. They just got the unlucky breaks in the second half.
Throwing over 50 times is a recipe for losing. Dang near every time
I pray to god that the chargers will win a super bowl before I die. I was born in 1998 so I wasn't able to see this game but I want to see my team at least win one before I die

I remember this. As a long time Charger fan it was the greatest game ever.
Junior Seau one hell of a linebacker rest in peace
As much as I do enjoy and thank the NFL for uploading these full games, I do wish they uploaded more full games than they are. It really doesn't make much sense to have all that game footage collecting dust.
I still can’t believe Pittsburgh lost that game. They literally lost because they gave up two big plays, and they didn’t convert in the red zone. A Pittsburgh/San Francisco Super Bowl would have been far more entertaining than the one we got. I still think San Francisco would have won, but I don’t think Pittsburgh would’ve gotten housed like the Chargers did…

This was an epic punk job the Chargers pulled off here back in Jan 1995...whats hilarious is the whole week prior to this game Steelers fans were running their BIG mouths on sports talk radio sayin..."You guys dont have a chance..warm weather team comin into our house in the cold weather..blah..blah..blah..and I almost forgot..Steelers were so confident they were gonna have a cakewalk..they made some lame ass video about them goin to the Super Bowl...thats what I heard anyway..

gdub454: I remember after the Chargers won this game, I went to the stadium with my Dad later that night to welcome the team home. The stadium was PACKED with 70,000 people. While we were waiting for the team to arrive, they played footage of the Steelers bragging about their Super Bowl plans on the Jumbotron, lol.
Funny, the Steelers did something similar this past 2017 playoff season. They so overconfident that they were going to meet New England in the AFC Championship, that they forgot all about Jacksonville and their monster D. Of course The Jags stomped the Steelers in the Divisional round.
They got creamed in the super bowl next year too! Cowher needed help to win in 2005! Very questionable calls by the officials !
@@braddvaughn6076 To say the least.
One of the Chargers starting offensive linemen that year Joe Cocozzo is from my hometown of Mechanicville, NY. He was a rookie that year I believe
Such an exciting game. Pittsburgh was by far a better team but San Diego had the better plan. Has there ever been a better pair of championship games than 1994?
I think the Steelers were plagued with overconfidence. They booked a recording studio to make a rap video the week of this game. "I hear they're selling that video for half price now," from a Chargers player after the game.
Steelers made the AFC title game in 1974, 1984, 1994, and 2004. The only other team do make a conference title game every 10 years like that for four consecutive decades was the Raiders (1970, 1980, 1990, 2000). Speaks to how good an organization is to be that highly competitive across four eras of football.
But New England has only been good since Brady came, Steelers have been good for years and years.
Steelers had 0 super bowls in the 80's and 90's. They had a dynasty in the 70's and are pretty good now and they choked a lot in the 90's and 2000's AFC championship games.
Patriots are close 1985, 1996, 2006, 2016
That is impressive. But for you Steelers fans you should be happy the Steelers did not win the 84' AFC Title and that 94' AFC title because they would have lost both those Super Bowls to the 49ers.

Best game moment by far...4th and goal....1:08 to play....Steelers on the 2yd line....and Coach Cowher is laughing on the sidelines during the timeout. Cowher was ALL passion, loved his players, loved the game. I'm a long, long long time Pats fan, and I miss Bill Cowher

This was literally 25 years ago... Man I'm old.
It will be 25 years soon next year.
26 years now
I turned 4 in November 94 so i was like 3 during this game
This game hurt, but it didn't really matter who won this game. Nothing was going to stop the 49ers in 1994.
The real Super Bowl was played in San Francisco later that day. Once San Fran beat Dallas, it was a total formality.
One of the biggest chokes in AFC history.
@@capswole81 it doesn't matter. I think the 49'ners or Cowboys would've killed any team from the AFC. Buffalo was the dynasty in the AFC back then and the Redskins and Cowboys blew them out. It was no different this year and I wanted the Steelers to win this game. Super bowl XXIX was closer than it was. The 49'ners took their starters out by the 4th quarter.
Wrong
I kind of disagree with you. In 1994, the Steelers had the number two defense in the league in both points allowed and yards allowed. Their pass defense was third in yards allowed and first in touchdowns allowed. Steve Young would not have had six touchdown passes against the Steelers defense. Unfortunately, their offense wasn't anything to write home about so San Francisco would still likely win.
That sounds about right. However, I believe Pittsburgh would have made it a good game. San Diego was complerely overmatched. How in the hell did they win this game?!
Man Seau played his heart out this game. RIP
Rip Seau. You were the most underrated linebacker.
Underrated everyone acknowledges how great he was
Underrated? Try and be smarter.
The Chargers had their chances in 79, 80 and 81. With the best quarterback, Dan Fouts and 3 +1000 yrd. receivers, John Jefferson, Charlie Joiner and the best tight end in history, Kellen Winslow. They had home field advantage throughout the playoffs in 79/80. They lost to Houston in the first round without Earl Campbell and Dan Pastorini, 17/14. 1979 div.playoffs. Fouts threw 5 interceptions. They crushed both Superbowl contenders that year, the Steelers 35/7 and the Rams 40/14.They lost to the damned Raiders 80, in AFC playoffs 34/27. They had about 7 turnovers. Of course 81, they lost in the icebowl AFC championship to Cincinnati 27/7. That cheapskate Gene Klein realesed the best wide receiver in the league at that time. John Jefferson and the best Defensive End ever Fred Dean. What a cheap bastard. Now, the whatever Chargers are homeless.
They won the championship in 1963
They where in L.A?
If they won atleast one they would still be in SD.
Steelers had a great defense. But a below average offense, this entire era. 92-97. That’s why they couldn’t win a super bowl. You’re not winning Super Bowls with Neil O’Donnell, Mike Tomczak, or Kordell Stewart. You’re just not.👈🏽
Lee Randall Easy to say. In hindsight.
Kordell was decent
Neil O'donnel was also color blind when it came to telling the difference between a dallas uniform vs. a steelers uniform. Don't forget that.
Should have drafted Marino in 1983 🐸🐸🐸☕☕☕

Anybody got the Chargers radio call of this game?
Only heard it one time, and would love to see it preserved....some pretty emotional commentary at the end.
I watched on TV but had the radio going, Lee hacksaw Hamilton !
I am glad Seau was able to experience the SB experience with the Chargers :) Sadly, even with NE, he didnt get a ring.
Jesús Lozano As a Chargers fan, I'm glad he didn't get a ring with the Patriots. He had a big retirement ceremony with the Chargers, and then a few days later, he goes and signs with the Patriots.
Jose Mercedes No, I held nothing against Rodney. I was upset at Seau for having a huge retirement ceremony here and then going and signing with the Cheatriots.
And Rodney's release had more to do with AJ Smith than Marty. AJ was a despicable human being who hated Marty and made roster decisions without consulting with Marty at all.
Well i guess that is true, but i will say that as pats fan that 2006 chargers team was the best i have ever seen and that playoff game, was probably so bad, like throwing 3 interceptions was bad, but the way the chargers imploded and Marty did not do such controlling his players and stupid turnovers and penalties and dumb playing by Marty on that 4th and 10 to go for it.
Jose Mercedes I agree, that 2006 Chargers team was the best team we've ever had. They definitely should have beaten NE that day. But it's hard for me to put the blame at Marty's feet. Yes, the 4th and 11 decision was not wise, however the Chargers still would have won had it not been for Eric Parker and Marlon McCree fumbling the ball. It's hard for me to blame an HC for fumbles.
I remember being so pist when san Diego won as they beat my dolphins in the divisional round. But I miss this football the old stadiums the uniforms even the refs uniforms, but it was football at its best and I miss starter apparel
I agree, the stadiums were iconic.. & the unis were both classic & well designed back then.

Mines? Wow, you’re a smart one.
Sad watching this. The San Diego chargers no longer exist
The Steelers didn’t look so “mighty” here. The NFC was the real power in those days. The 49ers destroyed San Diego in the Super Bowl and almost certainly would have done the same thing to Pittsburgh. The Steelers had their shot the next year and couldn’t get past a fading Dallas team that was on it’s last legs as the NFL’s finest team.
Even though the Steelers have added two Lombardi trophies to their collection, the glory days of the great franchise are long gone. The Men of Steel ruled during football’s greatest decade when they had to contend with three other great franchises. Miami, with three consecutive trips to the Super Bowl and wins in two of them. The undefeated Dolphins of 1972 were the most famous but the ‘73 team that destroyed Minnesota 24-7 in Super Bowl VIII was likely their best team. Then there was the Oakland Raiders, who were perhaps the one team that was in no way intimidated by Pittsburgh. Their rivalry with the Steelers started with the Immaculate Reception (or the Immaculate DEception if you were a Raider) in 1972 and lasted until the Raiders wiped out the Steelers in the 1983 AFC Divisional Playoffs en route to the Raiders’ third Super Bowl Championship in eight years. Not as impressive as Pittsburgh’s four Super Bowl wins in six years but still mighty good. And finally, over in the NFC, the one member of that conference that actually broke through the AFC’s dominance and won two Super Bowls. The Dallas Cowboys destroyed Miami 24 to 3 in Super Bowl VI and crushed the Denver Broncos 27 to 10 in Super Bowl XII. The Cowboys lost three Super Bowls in the seventies by a total of 11 points and in each case, could easily have won the game had a break or two gone their way. Dallas’ five Super Bowl appearances in the seventies were the most by any team in that decade.
Pittsburgh earned the title of the team of the decade by going a perfect 4-0 in the big game.
That level of excellence has never been reached by a Steeler team since.
True bro man that 1994 49ers where to good

Good thing we are getting new coach and what the chargers need is a new condition coach because the players are always getting injured.
With Patricia or Ron Rivera as coach , expect us at AFC Championship next season at least.....
I watched this game from inside the South Bay detention center, when we still had the big screen TV's. They let us stay up after count to watch the hole game. After the last play everyone cheered and was going crazy for about 10 mins there was no racial segregation. #SadGoodtimes
We miss you like crazy Bolts. Come home soon! :(
still remember this sunday, it was a great one. #55
How embarrassing. Dan Fouts never went to the Superbowl 1979-82, but Stan Humphries does. What's a Stan Humphries? Then again what,s a David Woodley?
Well Dan Fouts and the Chargers had a lot tougher competition in those years then Stan Humphries had because the AFC was weak in the 1990s.
Two sacrificial lambs battling it out to see who is worthy enough to be slaughtered in the Super Bowl by the 49ers
Asa Lee before broncos started winning, nfc championship was the real super bowl lol
Never know what Steelers would have done with this defense
as a Steelers fan, this was the most gut-wrenching devastating loss I can remember. Heavy favorite at home, have a lead in the second half that dwindles away, tantalizing late game hope, and that devastating goal line stand.
I'm not saying this Steelers squad would have beaten that stacked 49ers team (NFC Championship game was probably the de facto Super Bowl), but it doesn't make this loss hurt any less.
injures gives us a prob every year. i wish we could stay healthy. go bolts
Two of the best announcers
RIP David Griggs #92 for SD and Junior Seau #55
RIP JUNIOR SEAU ONE OF THE GREATE55 AND RIP TO THE SANDIEGO CHARGERS NOW THE la chargers THANKS ALOT NFL ! AND DEAN SPANOS !
LOVE seeing Steeler THUGS Woodson and Brown LOSE! Sweet!
Samuel Hain + I hear that !🤟
Lol at the salty Browns fans😂😂😂
One of the best AFC Championship games ever.. The drama was so tight, any play would make or break a win or loss.. Also Natrone s 1rst down conversion running over 2 defenders, was one of the great runs Means had ever..
Boring brute football. I rather watch Air Coryell.
I don't think the steelers would've beat the 49ers anyway. Now they're loss to the Broncos 3 years later would be more heartbreaking because evidently the packers were beatable and got beat!
No, but the game would've been MUCH MORE COMPETITIVE for people like me who wanted to see a decent Super Bowl. By the middle of the 2nd quarter, my friends and I were playing NBA Live 95 on the Sega Genesis lmao.
I do believe it would've been a much better game than a boring blowout
lol you all have it wrong... the chargers lost the super bowl kuz my cousin tony martin and half the offense and lb core was coked out in miami his hometown.
i don't see kordell beating the packers
SB 29 was over when Rice caught that first Td i was dumb enough to bet on the Chargers after that td i gave my homie the money it was a wrap.
27:58 - 28:10
Natrone means is underrated due to his shorter career. But his prime years, like here, he was a beast. As solid of a powerback as anyone at the time.
It's so dumb that the Chargers left San Diego.
But will you stop rooting for the Chargers when they moved 2-3 hours away?
You must not be from So California. Los Angeles has always been treated as an enemy to San Diego sports. It’d be like if the Cowboys moved to Philadelphia.
@@timmylong833 No, because the Cowboys and eagles is a real rivalry.
LA doesn’t care about San Diego.
That year the Steelers got lucky by not making it to the Supper Bowl. If they had gone the SF 49'r would have destroyed the Steelers in super bowl. !! The 49'r it was there year. If not for holding call that was not called at Deion n NFC vers Cowboys. It would have been cowboys at SB Again. But it is what it is.
How in the world did Pittsburgh lose this game????
A Great Game, R.I.P. Junior Seau #55, FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!
It’s quite incredible that SD won both playoff games to get to the SB with very uninspiring pass offense and defensive statistics in wi the game. The crazy dream became the completely expected nightmare when the faced a loaded SF 49ers team in two weeks in the SB.
Game was a classic case of not putting a team away you had the chance, Pittsburgh dominated the first half but let SD hang around long enough to hit a couple of big plays and sneak out of there w/ a win. Great 4th quarter!
You don't dominate a team with stats or time of possession. You dominate a team by scoring in bunches. The Chargers defense was the better defense on the field that day and led by a LB that was the best player in the game. RIP JR. SEAU
yay I've been waiting for this one, Go Chargers!!😃
San Diego Chargers fans had their biggest moment and were over the moon ... until two weeks later.
Who cares? They were trashed by the 49er's in one of the most boring Super Bowls of all time lol. Chargers were not on any level near the great 49'ers. They got lucky here and beat an over confident Steeler team.
I loved watching the Steelers get punked on their turf. A year earlier after the Oilers beat them in Houston, Gregg Lloyd said the real Steelers didn't show up. Then the Oilers came into 3 rivers a few weeks later and beat em even worse!!
Shitsburg should of lost to the Colts in the AFC Title Game the following year as well. The Colts LB Quentin Coryatt dropped an easy int that would of sealed the game.
@@thomasnee270 cause they suck thats why he drooped the int
Steelers still have six little punk boy
@@eastcoastgrandison4855 Shitsburgh Squeelers. Viva Larry Brown!
@@Bob31415 sixburgh baby best team in nfl history
I think only Gorden and Harrison of that Chargers team won Super Bowl rings with other teams
And Eric bieniemy as a coach
Damn imagine how many Superbowls the Steelers would have won in the 90s had they drafted Dan Marino like they should have. Marino with these defenses and run game is a scary thought.
And we also let go of Johnny Unitas back in the day. The what ifs.....
My body aches just looking at that artificial turf.
san diego chargers for life boltup
san diego chargers for life boltup
Confusion alert.
91 - bills won AFC game
92 - bills won AFC game
93 - bills won AFC game
94 - bills won AFC game
95 - chargers won AFC game (versus the Dolphins)
96 - Steelers won AFC game (versus the colts who got robbed)
97 - patriots won AFC game
If the this truly is the 94 AFC Championship game, where the hell are the buffalo bills?!
i was 20 years old this broke my heart
This was a 2nd place game with that loaded 49ers team that won
*Dennis Gibson put defense on us near the goal line he had 2 pass deflections and one was the game winner*
One of the biggest choke jobs in NFL history. I would never trust Cohwer AFC championship game as he lost 4 of them. To Bills defense he never had a stud starting quarterback with the likes of Neil O'Donnell and Kordell Stewart.
"Everyone into the pattern...Humphries back...going long...caught Tony Martin." Hacksaw Hamilton, Good Night Now Steeler Fan!
If PITT actually had a decent QB in 94 and 95, they may have had a chance to win BOTH those years. Odonnell sucked.
Yes ... He was not real great
55:33 ... Seau appears to get either a stinger or a concussion from this collision.
If any team had a shot at beating the 49ers in Super Bowl XXIX, it was the Pittsburgh Steelers. Kevin Greene, Greg Lloyd, and Rod Woodson all deserved to be all-pros that year while Joel Steed, Chad Brown, Carnell Lake, and Darren Perry all turned in great seasons. Unfortunately, the Steelers offense couldn't keep up with their defense that year with the only offensive player they deserved to have in the Pro Bowl that year being Dermontti Dawson.
Seriously though, Super Bowl XXIX might have been an exciting game if the Steelers played the 49ers.
1:39:45 2nd most important play in SD Charger History. 1:50:00 MOST important play in SD Charger History !
