These were songs that captured the heart and soul of a woman!! They are as revelant today as days past. The sad part is that hearts of so many women have been fractured by some of us men that they find it incredible to accept when some of us men speak from our hearts! Let's all be for real!! God bless.
Yes, if we just had real men that would share kindness, compassion and RESPECT our world 🌍 would be a lot more together and sad games people try to Play!
Actually they weren't discovered by Marvin. Freddie Gorman, the first man to sing lead, was a songwriter with Motown in the early days. He co-wrote "Please Mr. Postman" for the Marvelettes in 1961 and originally part of a songwriting team with Brian Holland and Lamont Dozier, who would later become Holland-Dozier-Holland. Gorman left Motown for a brief period only to return in 1966 with the Originals where they recorded their own material, but mostly provided background vocals on hundreds of songs. Marvin, who felt groups like the Originals weren't getting the attention from Motown, decided to produce the guys and thus the song here is a result.
Love this song. It's great to finally see a video of them performing it because I always thought it was just two of them singing lead. That really shows that there is talent all through this group.

"Unreal" how vocally emotive The Originals were. The 4 part harmony aside from the 1-2 vocal trade from CP to Hank was just unreal how solid they sounded, you hear their songs one knows exactly who it is though you may not recognize the group. "Please Mr Postman" superb in every way. Cheers, JOHN
I first head Baby I’m for real when it was introduced on WAMS Wilmington,Delaware a week after I moved to Newark,Delaware on June 27,1969 as a hit bound, it climbed the hit charts real fast. It’s great that I can hear it on you tube. The song was so very popular in the Philippines in 1974 when I was first there. I heard the song the day I met my late wife of 31 years on January 16, 1975, I was in the Navy then. Baby I’m for real is a song that has staying power. My late parents loved the song. I heard my father hum it many times & my mother sing & even hum it as well.
I can still remember this band The original singing this song they had a good album that year I still have it and I have the CD and still jamming out to all these old school oldies love songs.. I know all you people out there that are still old school keep it real and keep it original... Baby I'm for real...lol..
Flashback To The Pass when music was for real!” When love ❤was for real!” I haven’t heard this song in many years. It’s a miracle how I still remember all the lyrics. My grandkids freak out how I still remember after so many years. To my grandkids it’s mambo Jumbo music. Sadly they’ll never know what true music was 😢 i’m glad for technology now where we can look up any song that takes you back to memory lane.
People keep saying " they just don't make music like this anymore " (while the truth is) it's timeless & can never truly be duplicated, so no-1 should ever try to take away the love of a artful exhibition that's so meaningful, and turn it into a everyday thing that would never have the true effects on the people that it does.
If you young people born after the 80's would only go back to the times of romantic music such as songs of this sort. Maybe the crime that plagues your era, the drug use, breakup and breakdown of the family, and slutty ways of modern females who ignorantly call themselves "b.....s" and guys calling themselves "dogs", when change. Just hopeful thinking on my behalf.
Amen! I live this comment brotha! 110% agree with ya! I'm 16 years of age and I absolutely adore all old fashioned music but most dearly the romantic beautiful pieces of art like this!!!
Jake Cudnik Jake thanks for the positive reply. Dude, when you're with your girl and you want to take her to a higher level "romantically" play this song, and any of the Whispers any great slow songs, such as Great Day". Bring back the art of olde school romance Jake and blow your female friend's mind.
Will do man! It's been going really well talking to this one girl that I love. I'll make a promise to you man that I'll play that when I'm with her! Great thing is she loves that type of music and really any of the music I listen to!
It's not like people from that era are saints either. I bet at least one member of this group was hooked on cocaine. You have to remember that since the baby boomers the WORLD population has doubled so crime had to at least double. Also more crime is reported now because it is easier to record and spread I bet people back then got away with some really heinous crimes. Last and not least who raised my generation? Don't they deserve some credit with what is wrong with society today?
I'm only 20 and I was born in 98", raised with this music and I plan on never letting it go. Can I get some props lol.
David Rodriguez I’m right there with you man we got to keep it alive and pass it on.

Real Shit I Thought The Same Thing Lol This A Amazing Performance Fr Modern Rnb singers not even close to singing live fr actually sounding good.
Yass!🤣
jiimy0803...I always thought there was only one singer...lol..wow.It wasn't til I saw this video that I came to know the shared leads!!
@HM H I thought it was one lead also. They all were dynamic voices
The brother on the end, sends it up!!! I never seen a video of them before.
MotownMagic1959
I thought I'd add a late comment to thank you DiscoNights1987 for putting this clip on, I was a fan of The Originals since they started all those years ago I wish they were around today!! that was the thing in the 60's and 70's every artists had individual talent especially at Motown etc that seems to be missing quite a lot today don't you think? I used to do a Motown Disco here and it was SO popular back in the 70's. Many thanks to all. JOHN
Still listening in 2021. What fantastic singers.

MotownMagic1959
They worked as background singers for Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, and Jimmie Ruffin, in the early times, even the girl groups too! This record topped one million sales in the US and after "The Bells" came "God Bless Whoever Sent You" all thanks to Marvin Gaye brilliant eh? to think Freddie Gorman as I often tell people, was a postman once and who should write "The Marvelettes first hit on Motown's Tamla label but Freddie..... "Please Mr Postman" superb in every way. Cheers, JOHN
+John G Byrne and Jr Walker and the All Stars.
As the history buff that I am, I really appreciate the nugget of info!

This song takes me back to some fun loving times in my life.
Loved this song back in the day, love it even more so now!! This is the Real Deal, True R and B✨✨
I grew up with this and I wouldn't let it go beautiful music 💎
I remember hearing this song back in 1972. As a kid everything was together
Great Song!🎵😎60s 70s 80s and early 90s is my generation of music. ✌🇺🇸
Wowww Memories,Memories,Memories ....Love it !!!! The best music in the best era EVER !!

Rosita Rogers OMG You just hit a home run with those comments TRUE DAT! ! Rosita MEMORIES WOW! !
This was a 1st dance with my future husband ,in 1969. We are still dancing to it 51 years later.
A great group and this song will always have a positive impact on my life. I still listen to it as often as I can. I love all of their songs.
Timeless classic . Music like this reminds me of my grandparents . 8 years still feels like yesterday, miss them dearly . 😔
This is what made the 70s romantic. I used to listen to this song with my girlfriend Debbie Padilla
Yes David, romantic and hopeful..... exactly what's missing today ❤😊
Lord I got chills on my arms hearing this song. Whew! Amazing. Just Amazing. 😌😌
Jake Cudnik
Jake thanks for the positive reply.
