1:33:40 "A loaded 32 calibre homemade gun inside a type writer in his cell" and then writes a note that says smile lol.....this is crazy, shows you how this guy masterminded the whole escape
Good observation. The two multiple murderers that escaped rather ingeniously, through ductwork, into the sewer system, and came up through a manhole several blocks away, are another great example. They had outside help, a woman who worked in the kitchen smuggled in various tools inside of frozen ground beef. The one guy also started a fake affair with her. It was years in the planning. They got away, but once out, they had no backup plan in case their lady friend didn’t show. She didn’t. They had no means of getting to Canada, nowhere to hide, no supplies, nothing. They were caught after about 10 days in the woods and separating. One surrendered and sits in solitary. The other decided for suicide by cop. He aimed a stolen rifle at the officer and was shot dead. The woman who realized too late she was a pawn, freaked out and went to the hospital feigning heart attack and mental symptoms. She was later arrested and is in the same prison.
The guards got put through the ringer for not following protocol, but what about the warden who’d been advised a few months earlier that a bomb scare was going to be a cover for an escape? He would’ve been notified very quickly of the bomb, but it apparently didn’t ring any bells. And it’s not like they had bomb reports on a frequent basis; there’d never been any before. I bet the anonymous tipster thought that’d be the last damn time he’d try to help them out.
Amazing and brilliant escape plan, but it stops there... No plan whatsoever after leaving the facility. They could have gotten away with it for some years but eventually get caught in the end anyway. Great documentary! 👍
Taking advantage of guards not doing their jobs the way they are suppossed to hardly qualifies them as masterminds. Plus the fact they are prison in the first place.

What would you have done differently? (1) Spent more time planning on what to do after they escaped. (2) try to conceal the State van better, lock the door's. (3) aquired maps, split up, went separate ways. (4) get as far away, as fast as they can, from the prison area. (5) steal a vehicle, hop a train. Put as much distance between you and the prison. @kelvin robertson That's what I said. They should've all remained in the prison Van and made it to Canada. From there they could've changed identities: if they were smart enough, or figured something out from there.
Excelente documental, increíble todo el plan ejecutado con simpleza pero a la perfección, pero más inteligente y efectiva fue la búsqueda y detención de los escapistas.
The electric chair seen on this film is not the actual chair they use. This was just a stage chair they used and a actor you see in it. Yes. They did actually electrocute a man named Frank Capola. The chair they use does not have the head piece connected to it. The head piece is separate and spring action and will literally straighten your hair that hasn't been shaved right out.
Well, if I was in the death row I would take a chance to escape the prison. Even I stay there I get executed anyways. Why not take a last tiny chance to survive which only chance was to escape?
In any state that has the death penalty I, would feel sorry for those people on death row not, because they are fixing to be executed is only because they won't have their 19 days. Is just like one death row inmate gave his last words saying to the warden saying: at least I had my 19 days.

@@mariekatherine5238 I saw the series they made about it, it's pretty good, has Benicio del Toro in it
The re-enactments on this channel are very good!
Wow this is a good prison break documentary....very interesting
The guards got put through the ringer for not following protocol, but what about the warden who’d been advised a few months earlier that a bomb scare was going to be a cover for an escape? He would’ve been notified very quickly of the bomb, but it apparently didn’t ring any bells. And it’s not like they had bomb reports on a frequent basis; there’d never been any before. I bet the anonymous tipster thought that’d be the last damn time he’d try to help them out.
Excellent video. Better than some movies I’ve seen.
Amazing and brilliant escape plan, but it stops there...
No plan whatsoever after leaving the facility. They could have gotten away with it for some years but eventually get caught in the end anyway. Great documentary! 👍
They didn't know how to live outside those prison walls.
They should’ve convinced Willie Turner to join

Masterminds inside prison but idiots outside of it
Taking advantage of guards not doing their jobs the way they are suppossed to hardly qualifies them as masterminds. Plus the fact they are prison in the first place.

NEVER allow death row inmates to rec together. Period.
Why stop there? WHy let them rec at all? In fact, put them in chains 24/7. You tell em Jennifer.
The Virginia Department of Corrections was under orders from federal courts to loosen up the conditions on death row.
As one of the administrators later said, "we felt the ACLU was running Mecklenburg"

Willie Turner saved nurse and guards' lives. Should commute his sentence.
Turner attempted to escape with three other death row inmates the following year, utilizing a home made "flare gun" he made using the backing of a legal pad and a match. He was executed in May, 1995 for the 1978 murder of Jack Smith, a jeweler in Franklin, Virginia, during a robbery.

A bank robber escape from prison and had been invisible for 30 years living his live in Mexico
Now that’s how you escape..
Lesson: Don't plan a good escape out of prison when you have nowhere to lay low.Don't escape and be on the run
In 1984, 13000 a year in Virginia is like making 52000 a year now.
Still not a very good wage if you consider the danger.
