What's a 16-year-old boy doing playing music and table tennis with adult psychiatric patients -- on a school day? It's kind of a funny story..."It's Kind of a Funny Story," adapted from Ned Vizzini's 2006 novel of the same name, is the new comedy-drama from acclaimed writer/directors Ryan Fleck & Anna Boden. It's @5:00 AM on a Sunday in Brooklyn. Craig Gilner (played by Keir Gilchrist of "United States of Tara") is bicycling up to the entrance of a mental health clinic; this bright 16-year-old is stressed out from the demands of being a teenager. Before his parents (Lauren Graham [of "Parenthood"] and Jim Gaffigan [of "Away We Go"]) and younger sister are even awake, Craig checks himself into Argenon Hospital and is admitted by a psychiatrist. But the youth ward is temporarily closed -- so he finds himself stuck in the adult ward. One of the patients, Bobby (Zach Galifianakis of "The Hangover"), soon becomes both Craig's mentor and protégé. Craig is also quickly drawn to another 16-year-old displaced to the adult ward, the sensitive Noelle (Emma Roberts of the upcoming "Scream 4'), who just might make him forget his longtime unrequited crush Nia (Zoë Kravitz of the upcoming "X-Men: First Class"). With a minimum five days' stay imposed on him by the adult ward's staff psychiatrist Dr. Eden Minerva (Academy Award nominee Viola Davis), Craig is sustained by friendships on both the inside and the outside as he learns more about life, love, and the pressures of growing up.
I had to watch an advertisement before I could watch the advertisement.... the internet is great 👍
LMAO
I had to watch two
F the Internet
Same
😂 yeaaaahhhh
Today i finished reading this book and I just discovered Ned's death, like the idiot that I am, and terribly mourning for his loss that was due 4 years ago. I am so heartbroken right now knowing that the author himself never held on to his anchor while the character he made did. I feel like this is the epitome of irony. What a great tragic loss.
Same :/
you're not an idiot, remember that whenever you forget :)
Sad
This movie reminds me why I never want to go back to these places.
Saw this as a kid who had spent a lot of time in a psyche ward. Liked it a lot and it made me feel more comfortable with myself and my experiences with depression as a 13 year old
Hang in there bud
At first I was like "oh god, he's depressed, he won't be at the end, why the hell should I watch this, it'll just make me jealous" ... but i'm glad I did, becouse this film is mind blowing. Power of this movie isn't in storyline twists, in punchy jokes, in big romance, nope non of that's included. 90% of people, the healthy ones, will be bored to death. The power of the story is in extreme acuracy, in astonishingly detailed relatability for that 10% of messed up ones. It gives hope by showing you that the mess in your head isn't unique to you at all. It's actually quite common and it can be defeated at the end. The plot is one big "don't give up" message. And that's just right. I love this movie since first watch. I don't know if it actually saved my life back then, but it really changed it for better. Thank you, Focus Features.
This movie probably saved my life. Some friends of mine put it on one time and I ended up watching to the end. Over the next few months I became a wreck and thought "Well that looked fun," and was able to overcome the massive stigma of getting clinical help. I basically emulated the admission scene verbatim.
Speaking as a person who has been been in a psychiatric ward multiple times, this movie looks awesome!
Saw this on my birthday, really an underrated movie
The cinematography on this film is great. And the acting looks awesome.
im crying this movie is based off a book by ned vizzini and at 0:21 he's reading be more chill,, a book also by ned vizzini
omg i never noticed that, i love both of the books so this is a really interesting easter egg
I read this book almost a year ago, and I'm sooo happy they're making it into a movie!
This movie needs to have a wide release instead of a limited release cause i really want to see this movie
Went there for Emma Roberts, came out as a fan of the film script, dialogue, direction and acting.
Exactly the same!! Amazing movie
Been watching over and over again. . . :) Every time the movie still gives me chills. . .
I saw this at the TIFF premiere Saturday night...all I can say is that everyone laughed at the right moments and the applause was wild by the end of the film. There is a lot of humour, but a lot of wisdom as well. A film celebrating the ups and downs of an unconventional teenager, it will remind you of Charlie Bartlett and Igby Goes Down (also my favourites). If you like a good quirky growing-up comedy, you'll love this one. Definitely worth seeing and will leave a smile on your face :)
this is my favorite book of all time, and i cant WAIT for the movie
I read this book a long time ago and oh my god, this movie looks awesome! I'm glad it seems they portrayed him pretty well. :]
i havent read the book, but after spending over a week in an inpatient behavioral facility, im going to watch this.
very underrated movie. it's brilliant.
I'm so excited, this is my favorite book! Focus has tons of good movies, so I'm pretty confident that it'll be good.
I am praying that they dont mess up the amazing story!!!! The book means so much to me.
Reminds me of the time I was in a psych ward for four days... lmao I will never forget.
@Ber how are you now
This preveiw, like, gave me chills.
This is awesome! I read the book but had no idea there was a movie.
SUCH A GOOD BOOK
great movie. but i wish it was longer. seems like they could have done so much more with it. still an awesome movie
one of the best movie I ever watched
This and Girl Interrupted are some of my favorite movies with experience being in a psych ward
This is my FAVORITE book. This book explains depression so well to people who have never had it before and can't understand it.
A little bit sad that Emma Roberts is playing noelle though... She doesn't match the noelle that was in my head when reading the book. Nevertheless, I'm going to go see it :)
Name of the book please
@@reshmareshma2856 it’s kind of a funny story by Ned Vizzini
the book was awesome cant wait for the movie!!!!
Got the book gifted to me by my autism therapist when I was 12, read the shit out of that thing and its been my favorite book for years, and I think soon im gonna be able to see the movie!
This preview makes me want to see this movie more than the ones I saw on tv lol but I know its cause to have a commercial this long would cost lots more money
This movie looks awesome.
I am so reading the book.
This was a GREAT book!!! I hope it's a great movie!!!
I think this movie is gonna be cool, the plot is really original xD
I love this book. I hope the movie is just as good
This movie is going to be EPIC
@otakucode That's really not what the book is about. He's overly stressed due to too much homework at the high school he goes to. Part of it is reading about current events and Wall Street every night, and he doesn't, and starts getting swamped with all of the homework. So it's not saying knowing what's going on in life is unimportant. It's just another one of his problems.
I hope this is good, the book was AMAZING
THIS MOVIE IS SERIOUSLY AMAZING I TELL GO WATCH IT RECOMMENDED 100 %
Awesome movie.
ahhh this looks soo good, imma go get the book and read it before the movie comes out
To anyone wondering what the song is, it's "Oh My God" by Ida Maria. also, to @heyyounaruto Craig smoked pot in the book, not cigarettes.
If Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden directed a tech manual video, it would be worth watching.
They should make a movie of Be More Chill!!
The song is Oh My God by Ida Maria
@lolwut818 you should read the book if you havent already. its really good if youre depressed
I think I need to watch it again
I read this book, liked it, but I never thought for a second it would become a movie.
Guess I was wrong.
it seems like a really good movie..definitely going to watch it..
