People stressing about 2 million debt don’t understand how he is actually the richest guy of this group. He understands economics and knows that buying assets such as houses will generate cash flow which you can pay of your debt with.

Do you mean only in America or everywhere in the world? I used to live in a country with "free healthcare" I much prefer living in the USA. But of course everyone will have their own experience. Just saying "free healthcare" isn't always great for everyone.

@@DD-rh2sz Did you come from a third world country or a developed first world country? Don’t act places with statistically better healthcare aren’t miles ahead of America in service. There’s a reason America has the lowest life expectancy in the developed world.
Definitely depends. Something cosmetic like a breast implant or a nose job (Unless In Della’s case bc it’s hard to breathe out of the nose she was born with) should never be free but if it affects your day to day life or if ur life is on the line like cancers or surgeries.
To those looking to go to college, look for any and all ways to stay out of debt as much as you can. Look at scholarships or grants or borrow money from family (if you can). Student loans should be your path of last resort and don't take out any more than you need. If you are already in debt, look into debt repayment plans or forgiveness programs for public service if need be.
An additional thing to add, if you have the option DO NOT pay for your semester or year all at once before the semester begins, make monthly payments, because if for some reason you are unable to finish the semester for medical reasons or family reasons out of your control the thousands of dollars you paid upfront at the beginning of the semester are just gone, or if it was some type of GRANT or loan, now YOU have to pay it off before next semester begins - this if you plan on returning to school after that happens
@@v3nd_data859 I agree! monthly is the way to go, if possible :) I use a different payment plan where i pay less but it’s spread across the whole semester, and I find myself being able to support myself better instead of paying a lot of money that’ll be gone all at once! I’ve run into problems with my car, needing to pay off visits to the doctor’s clinic, it’s definitely way better than paying all together. 🙏

Also, unless you’re in a specialized major like architecture, try and spend your first two years at a community college especially if you can live with family and/or have a car. If not, look into public in-state universities. Do not fall for the allure of the care packages and seemingly large scholarship offers from private universities. If you have to take on student debt try and keep it to federal loans.
Really appreciate this debt discussion. I feel so much shame around mine and seeing them able to just talk about it out loud is so therapeutic.

It's so common so why shouldn't we talk about it. But, I do have shame with how much student loan debt I have.

Yes he spoke about how much debt he had in that video. I literally commented on that video saying I knew he had more money because of his high level of debt. Generally speaking financial institutions won't lend you large sums of money unless you make a lot of money.

can i ask how paying back student debt is done? in the UK we only pay it off once we earn £27k a year. do you have something similar or do you have to pay it back straight away?

The way it works is that, after my school is done, I exactly have 6 months until I have to START paying whatever amount of debt I owe.
Whether I graduate or not, I will still have to pay that debt after 6 months when I "finish" college.

To anyone in college or going into college soon, just know that there are PLENTY of ways to avoid debt. I live in Georgia and we have insane scholarships here. I graduated undergrad with zero debt and I have made it through my first year of grad school still with no student loan debt. I work as a grad assistant and it pays my tuition! I have about 1,000 in credit card debt and that is it! Look at your options and don’t just accept the debt!
Also, if you are able to take free college classes while in high-school, do it!! Don’t be afraid! Some of my intro college courses were actually easier than high school advanced courses. A lot of times they even pay for your books for you which is a huge money saver as well.

I'm a senior in college in the U.S. I was able to avoid debts thanks to federal and state student aid. It also help that I went to a school that has a very low tuition rate in comparison to other schools and I don't dorm either.
I tell people all the time that they should consider moving to GA when their kids get into high school. My husband and I both went to undergrad (and grad school) and have zero student debt. All you have to do is meet a minimum GPA and you can go to any public university for undergrad on the Hope Scholarship (it’s funded by the lottery). It’s been so successful at keeping kids in-state that the quality of all our universities continues to increase - I probably couldn’t get into my university if I were applying now!

As a citizen of Spain, used to how Europe functions, it's unimaginable to even have medical or student debt. Healthcare is mostly free and college too. We don't even use credit cards, most people have debit cards, since we don't build up credit. I wouldn't live in America at the moment, seems like you're living on the edge constantly
I agree with you on so many levels!! The only really big loans most people have here in the Netherlands are mortgages. But is that really considered debt??

As someone from the Netherlands I can say that it's not true everywhere in Europe. Student debt is actually quite a big problem over here, a lot of students have a debt that goes into the thousands or even tens of thousands.
Yeah we really do. I so wish I was born elsewhere a lot because America is just such an insane place to live. Our politics and guns alone here scare the crap out of me. You walk into high-school feeling so unsure each day of your safety. My little sister used to get panic attacks just going to school scared for her life.
I think most of us watching this from Europe are in disbelief… I’m 27, I don’t have any debt. The only thing for which is “normal” to get loans for is buying a house, maybe a small one for a car.
Medical debt should not be a thing, it's just wrong. Student debt should, at the very least, be something easily manageable, and to paid back when your employment situation makes it possible.
That's the case in the UK, you pay it back once you hit £21K (ish), so around $26.5K (ish) and it isn't a crazy amount per month. If you don't earn that much money, you don't start paying it back. If you dip under the £21K, it stops. No penalty for early repayment, either.
I feel eric. I'm in medical school and not finishing is not an option, or I'll be half a million in debt.

I appreciate them being honest about how anxiety places a huge role in work and how that overflows into debt. It’s a huge struggle for me.
A'tavia and I thought the same way. We both grew without money, our parents couldn't take us anywhere, always eating at home. When you become an adult with credit cards you only think of the stuff that you missed on not on the debt.
Seriously get a credit card if you use it wisely and consistently pay off things like car payments your credit score can go up which makes the banks more likely to give u things like loans because you are responsible with your money and paying off things that need to be paid
@@omotayosatuyi252 that’s literally the opposite of what you should be recommending for someone in this situation (coming from someone paying off the debt from living through this situation). What you SHOULD be doing is managing your impulse spending and learning to budget and discipline yourself to staying within your budget. And do it EARLY.

dominic's debt is basically planned and strategic debt. i think the reactions to his high debt were interesting because i feel like it showed a bit of lack of financial literacy. he has basically gone into debt to earn money, and often the way it works is the more you can put in, the more you can earn. that being said, he mentioned that medical debt is "easy to run from" which can be true but you've still got your interest (although usually relatively low) and health providers in certain regions can sell your debt to debt collectors, so there would always be concern about it.
I don’t think it’s the lack of financial literacy, it’s the sheer amount of money lol. Most people won’t see $2 million in their lifetime and don’t even have access to loans close to that amount. That’s probably where most of the shock was coming from
@@ughmina I agree in part but as you said, most wouldn't be able to access loans close to the amount. They were shocked at the amount, which is fair, but the amount also made them feel better about their own debt... but the nature of their debt vs Dominic's is too different to compare. I'm not trying to say anything mean when I mention financial literacy - I more intend to point out that a lot of people don't understand finances well which is probably something that should be addressed more in the (secondary) education curriculum.

Owing money for education is pretty logical. Higher education is an investment, like securities. Its a choice to pursue higher education. High education (especially with a linguistics degree) doesnt make u more valuable to society. The US economy is biggest, and average person 5th richest in the world for a reason.

Listen, I am 35 and in bankruptcy. It’s tough to accept it but no matter your situation, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. My wife and I have things a bit tougher than we want but in about a year, we will be free and other than mortgage and student loan, debt free
Mortgage and student loan is 80% of the debt that scares people. Credit card debt is erased with bankruptcy.
@@cademancaden this is true but alot of people are so afraid of bankruptcy that they will avoid it and let credit card debt get out of hand. It's also medical debt too. My daughter was premature so had massive hospital bills even with insurance and that's what tipped us over.

kinda funny how at the end 2 of them said not to get credit cards, if you aren't paying most of your stuff with credit you are taking the L. Point accumulation plus perks are game changers, they end up saving you money as long as you can responsibly pay the cards off at the end of the month.

This is really refreshing. My parents have debt…idk how much but it is but it has caused so much dysfunction in my family mostly because I think they don’t think having debt it normal. Obviously it’s stressful, but even people who seem very well off are in debt and sometimes lots of it and I don’t think people talk about that enough and why my parents are the way they are.

It takes a lot of mental strength to be free from debt and financially disciplined as there are so many cool things out there that tempt you into buying. Sometimes you end up buying stuff because of FOMO and then end up with buyer’s remorse.
I remember the guy with 2 million in debt in another video where he was discovered to be a millionaire lol so I’m surprised he has so much debt. Probably just has like 10 houses and rents them out for more than his mortgages

I am a greek student and the exams we take in order to get into universities can be insanely difficult and many kids develop extreme anxiety throughout the one year of preperation that we have. However, universities are completely free and books too so as i grow up and learn about other countries i feel grateful that i won't end up as a doctor that cannot afford a car before my 30s because i am gonna have to pay all the student loans.

I'm so grateful I was taught about money, debt, and living within your means at a fairly early age (before college). It allowed me to be smart with money and currently, at 31, have no debt (other than a mortgage for my house).
Same. I'm 39 but when I was 31, same was true. I bought my house at 31 and have no other debt other than my mortgage.
My heart literally broke for Della. No one should carry such a heavy weight on their shoulders as a result of health issues that they got no control of. when you rely on the government to pay for your healthcare (via your taxes btw... it ain't free), they're also making your healthcare DECISIONS. I don't want it here in the US.
The wisdom is in understanding the context of debt, because not all situations are the same. My debt is 100% student loan based, and I believe I trail only Dominic in the debt department. But I feel comfortable in making my next steps financially, thanks to assets in hand and a strong credit score. I hope more working class people will use the wisdom to relieve stress.

you just don't understand. He could only get that debt if he makes a lot of $. So for example if you make a million a year you could go buy a 2 million dollar house with 200k down payment. have 1.8 million of debt but then pay that off in a few years and sell it for 3 million because it also appreciated. I soooooo can relate to this so much..Although I'm swimming in debt, I dont regret the decisions (would have made smarter education decisions)that I made because my career is proof that it mostly paid off. It just would be a relief to have hundreds of thousands of dollars off my back. However, I'm Blessed to be healthy and I have a rewarding career.

@@ughmina Public health and academia. I'm close to 170,000. Really hoping this Public Service Forgiveness happens for me because I have worded at a non-profit for 12 years and then went to higher education.
Apart from the guy with the 2 mil debt the others are surprisingly low. Most college students have $30k in CC debt alone. And most pple I know in their late 20s/30s usually have around $200-300k in just student loans (law school/med school, etc)
Huh? Most college students don't have credit cards that reach a limit of $30k combined though. If you said $3k then I wouldn't question it
So if they become doctors and lawyers they can pay that debt off quick. I feel sorry for the people with 60k debt that qualify to be baristas. They will never pay that debt off unless they go into a difficult job.

Definitely. Plus he owns other land (unknown amount and location). Jubilee is in California, so the dude probably spent $500k+ cash on the house alone no problem. The only one I thought could beat him was the medical debt until she stated that it was less than her student loans.
A'tavia's justification at the end shows a very dangerous attitude towards credit. Getting into debt to grow your skills or to expand your business is completely different from buying luxuries that you can't afford (which is what I assume she meant by "living normal life") on credit.

I just paid off all my college loans about 3 years ago, so I was completely debt free, but then I had a medical procedure done and then I have that debt now. No credit card debt though.

Please don’t let her convince you that debt is an okay and normal thing. That 23k in debt is going to make her hate her younger self 20 years from now when it grows to 50k with interest and she still has yet to pay it off. Live within your means and you will eventually get to live a more luxurious life but in a less stressful way.

My heart goes out to the girl who got into debt from having to pay for her cleft lip operation. I feel that someone who could should of stepped in to help her. Even better she should not of had to pay for her operation. We are lucky to have an NHS here in the UK.

High school students!! I highly recommend looking into if your high schools offer dual enrollment programs with local community colleges. They’re using little to no cost and they basically guarantee college credit unlike AP. I knocked out two years of college by graduating with an AA in high school. Also if you live in Florida definitely take advantage of bright futures

I'm so grateful I live in germany. I decided I didnt want to continue my law course in university, and had no worries about the money I had already spent attached for it. Half a year for my university is $100 plus a mandatory $150 for the public transport ticket I can use everywhere in my state (the ticket wouldve been $800 if I wasnt in uni). My friend from the US paid 8k for half a year at her psychology course and is facing an immense dilemma because her mental health prevented her from taking the exams.

I’m stressed about my credit card and medical debt but Ik rn i have the comfort of living at home to help pay it off. Thankfully I’m still in the single digit and staying there. And I’m thankful i had no student loans.

I went through nursing school and finished with no debt. It’s possible. Scholarships, asking school financial advisors helps a lot. There is a lot of money lying around unclaimed.

It’s interesting how all debt is grouped together as bad debt. I have a lot of debt but it’s all in real estate which pays me every month, so the more debt i have the more houses and money i can make. I however don’t have debt on things like vehicles or consumer items.

If not, look into public in-state universities. Do not fall for the allure of the care packages and seemingly large scholarship offers from private universities. If you have to take on student debt try and keep it to federal loans.

Credit cards are great for building credit history and aren’t bad if you treat them like a charge card (pay it off in full every month). Personally, I just got a cash back credit with as few fees as possible and I use that for basically all expenses.
Being European, the cost of medical care and university in the US is just total madness to me. The UK has relatively expensive unis (9k/year) but that pails in comparison to America. They need a real societal change…
"Don't get a credit card", what awful advice. You absolutely should have one, for protection against fraud, consumer rights and to help build credit for when you get older. You just have to pay it off in full every month, end of story. OTHERWISE yes, cards are the worst forms of debt. Staying out of debt is really, really, really, really not hard.
Staying out of debt is very difficult if you don't have the support and correct information. Many college students still have to work while going to school because of their debt. And its not their fault they wanted an education. It would be better if colleges weren't as expensive in general.
Yup. I got one at a great time and have great credit. Pay it off before the due date and you'll be fine.
I agree. I am in so much student loan debt that I avoided credit cards like through plague; but, having one credit card has been helpful with emergencies involving mostly car issues. Appreciated that card in those circumstances.
It’s a matter of impulse control. Some people are tempted when they’re aware of the line of credit available.
@@amuskat02 where i'm from, parents don't usually help with tertiary education so basically everyone works. i don't think it's a bad thing but there are other countries that make free or inexpensive and accessible tertiary education work so it begs the question why other developed nations not can't but don't. and frankly there are also people who can't work while studying, or can't work much, especially those who have more intensive courses or unpaid placements.

You are very smart. Just go take BSN online 1 year program for you to get higher pay. There are many colleges that offer that route.
Initially I was thinking debt, like standing amounts of money that don't or can't accumulate into anything. But about 30 seconds in, I remembered investments vs careless or in some cases forced spending.
That 2mil in debt is economically better than the 23k with the idea of "I'm in my 20's I need to live a little."
Student Debt is just a fact of life where I live. I am very fortunate to be able to get the education I am getting and that education will definitely lead to college.
At my school, most of the kids who leave, while going to great schools, end up with so much in debt. A girl I sit with at lunch is going to pay 70k a year and that isn’t out of the ordinary.
I haven’t applied for colleges yet, but I know as soon as I do I’ll be committing to working off that debt for at least the next 10 years. Definitely can’t wait /s
"Swipe and live your life" is not the way to live! She'll get eaten alive by the interest. Live below your means. Get roommates. Do whatever. But don't subject yourself to the credit card companies.

What you do is you get a credit card, pay for food/essentials with that credit card and immediately pay it off..it's a great way to build credit.
I don't make a lot of money but my credit score, when I got my new car, was either 813 or 830. I paid off all my debt 2 years ago..now all I have is my car..im 32 and hoping to get my own place maybe by the end of next year. The past 2 years I've been living with my family but working. San Diego County is hella expensive.

To anyone in college or going into college soon, just know that there are PLENTY of ways to avoid debt. I live in Georgia and we have insane scholarships here. I graduated undergrad with zero debt and I have made it through my first year of grad school still with no student loan debt. I work as a grad assistant and it pays my tuition! I have about 1,000 in credit card debt and that is it! Look at your options and don’t just accept the debt!

Mortgage is a type of debt so having a $2m debt is not necessarily a bad thing, especially if you equity in the asset. A lot of rich people made their wealth by leveraging debt.
