Produce Like A Pro is a website which features great tips to help the beginning recordist make incredible sounding home recordings on a budget.
Best channel of it's type on UA-cam and I love the way you demystify the recording/mixing process. Thank you!!
Kraznet's Samplitude Tutorials aw shucks thanks ever so much my friend! That means so much!
instablaster
warren, i don't always catch your livestreams, but i fully enjoy watching them afterwards.
your approach to layering is so spot on!
thank you for these videos, good sir.
It's amazing how much you've done huge videos like this. So helpful.
Thank you for the time spent on comparing the snare top and bottom sounds, it was revealing as to how to construct a nice blend of the two for a great mix. As always, thanks Warren.
Damn this is good content. I watch so many mix/mastering channels, but I love how you go deep into many of the smaller, more intricate aspects of both recording AND mixing.
Really, really, appreciate you doing a mix from scratch! I learn more this way than just seeing tutorials on pieces of a mix. Hope you will do more songs in the future. :)
I think I enjoyed this stream the most since watching the last few months, love this format, can't wait till part 2, thank you very much warren you rock!!
John Petraskie aw shucks that’s amazing to hear my friend! Yes, I love doing this! Real time mixing is something everyone has been asking for so I’m really happy to be able to do it!!
@@Producelikeapro okomok look oo
TWO hourz of BRILL ..thanx TEAM PLAP....God speed!
Great idea doing mixes from scratch! Thx so much, Warren! Re. fave drummer, Senri Kawaguchi's up-n-coming... definitely moving up my ladder.
Thanks so much for these videos Warren. I've honestly improved so much in my mixes compared to a year ago when I started watching your stuff. I appreciate what you do for everybody including us unknown guys. You sir are a fantastic teacher!
This is so helpful! Thanks for doing it, I appreciate all the info
Beautiful track.
Excellent tutorial.
Thank you Warren.
Wow! Thanks ever so much
LOVED the (drum) sound on the 2nd Raconteurs album too. Tight and punchy. Superb sound.
James McGauran agreed! Great sound
Love the drums. Very nice.
Elroi The Overseer thanks ever so much my friend!!
Hi Warren , I love this channel, thank you so much, sorry I missed the live stream, All the best ,Darren Ross.
lovely as usual Warren. i do produce extreme music mostly, but i like natural sound and your approch of the instruments is what extreme metal mixers miss
Everything of course! 😄
When I hear the raw tracks it already sounds better than my mix. I'm crying inside but still diligent!
Keep working on it! You will grow!
The beauty in learning. My friend told me this & it was a bit frustrating to hear. .. at first. But its true. With persistence and if u got the love for what u do, it’s worth the high after leveling up 🎉
@@Producelikeapro ❤
Thanks for doing this on you tube , nice track too, liked and subbed 🤘
You've help me so much fam thank you and thank heavens for youtube
I'd love to get these tracks. Great song. I'd like to take a crack at it. Warren's stuff is always top notch
thanks warren getting me excited about mixing again my favorite drum sounds are Michael Wagner ie 80's Skid Row DokKen
G'day from Gothenburg, Sweden.
Man... favourite drum sound could keep me here for days... I love so much different stuff. John Stanier's Helmet days got me into drum sounds as a teenager, despite being a guitarist. Judged a lot of great albums after that on the drum sound... loved Carter Beauford's sound and playing on 'Before These Crowded Streets'. As a live sound, The Cure's Entreat is one of my faves. Josh Freese with APC and NIN - his solid playing around 'The Slip' period... loved.
James McGauran wow! Thanks for those amazing references!!
James McGauran PS greetings in Sweden!
Thanks for your replies, Warren! Much appreciated :) I do love the 70s era too... after watching the Sound City documentary multiple times I revisited a lot of those older albums. The drums on that first Fleetwood Mac album with Buckingham/Nicks... just something special about the sound of that era.
Thanks Warren This is A hella lot of work 😤phewf
Aw shucks! Thanks ever so much!
great mix warren
This guy is the best producer I know so far, I've been learning a lot. Thanks ever so much 🤟
Wow! Thanks ever so much
That really means a lot
These videos are amazingly helpful, and hopefully i can catch one of these streams live! My favorite drum sound would probably be a tie between Mastodon's Leviathan album, and Red Fang's Murder The Mountains. Such a killer tone and feel, hope to try and capture something like it at home with 4 pretty cheap mics XD Wish me luck!
This is pretty great! I'm at the thwack part right now, where you've got samples of the real snare and such happening. With my own limited mike situations this would be a thing that could work for me a lot. ❣️
thank Warren
Soe Win thank you!
Amazing video, you definitely should do more of these, and please share the song from this tutorial for Feedback Friday 🙏😇
Alexey Soloviev Thanks ever so much my friend!! Yes, indeed!! The song will come up inside the Academy
@William Clark on others asking what headphones, I believe it's Ultrasone Pro 900 or similar Warren's using in the video. Maybe a give away on the way? : )
(Sorry if Warren already answered this in the video...)
Great stuff..
Thanks ever so much
I like that Peter Gabriel So! album, drums.
Audrey Sims yes, that album is a masterpiece!
Those piano stabs so remind me of the chorus of What about Love by Heart, and Roxette’s Listen to Your Heart. Both great songs and were hits...
Thanks ever so much
Good song!
Vic James thanks ever so much Vic!!
This is an incredible video on every level. Thanks Warren.
Thanks ever so much
This is great for people like me lol. New to this . Need all the help I can get. Thanks mate.
You’re very welcome!
The Baldwin grand has hints of a Bechstein concert grand overtones. It's a sweet a sweet sounding set of keys.
Dave Merkel • Music & Sounds I agree! It’s the piano on How To Save A Life, totally beautiful sound!!
35:29 Respect Warren. Glad you don't have a mouth on you. Schnizzle!!!
Thanks ever so much Rich! I really appreciate it!
My favorite drum Sound is Voodoo from D'Angelo with ?uestlove on drums. Amazing!!!
Joan O' The Moon yes! Amazing!!
this is what i need for sure
Thanks ever so much
@@Producelikeapro I'm trying to mix my first song n my goodness is it hard
Great Video, thanks Warren. I have one question: How was the mic placement on the Room.Cymbal? Pointed straight down to the cymbal or slightly angled away from the kit? Have a nice day and I'm looking forward to part 2
Studiokraft it was pointed directly down at the cymbal
"Top - Down Mixing is like building the roof of a house first". I could not agree more ! TDM is another one of those falacies that are prevelent around YT, like rejecting HP filtering !!!
Piedscooter1 thanks ever so much my friend! Yes, there’s some confusing things out there! But lots of wonderfully supportive ones as well!
Hi Warren, with regard to high passing, do you leave any instrument, to include frequencies down into the 20hz realm? or do you high pass everything from 30-40hz up? Thanks, another enjoyable & informative vid!
Glad to see there are other artists that stay up crazy late recording like me lol! Any tips on making mixes sound good on tiny horrible cell phone speakers? I can get my mixes to sound good on monitors, large speakers, and even a crappy laptop, but listening on the phone, it goes to schnizzle. Sounds overly compressed and limited even though I don't think there is too much applied. Thanks!
Also, there isn't any clipping going into mastering or out of it. The RMS is around 7-12. I'm listening back through the reverbnation app on an iphone. I reduced the 200-300 range on the snare and that seems to help a bit but it sounds buried even though it's plenty loud. I'm about to side chain the snare with the bass to see if that helps. The style is Pop/Rock/with EDM elements. Thanks!
I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem lol
favourite drum sound for reference is rob Dougan "clubbed to death"
Dire Straits Brothers in Arms had a very unique sound - almost sounded sampled!
This is literally awesome. Too bad I didn't watch the live but fortunately there is always the replay :)
I like Pixies' "Where is my mind" drum sound. It's simple but right to te point imho.
"La città morta" by Massimo Volume (it's an italian band) too, especially at 2:00 when the distorted guitar kicks in. I like that kind of sound, it has some "impact".
which plugin do you use to align drumsamples to grid or live drums?
Nice
I was wondering what screen capture software you use. Im struggling with this and im usually hesitant to just download stuff. Any resource info would be appreciated greatly thank you Warren.
You must be very proud of your work Warren, truly inspiring. :-)
Philfy Phil wow! Thank you ever so much!
Loving that Red Special in the background
Paul Dixon I love it as well!!
Sou do Brasil....tem como colocar seus vídeos com legendas em português? Gosto demais da dinâmica que vc trabalha
Hello Warren. Do you remember the mic drums? Audix DP? FP? Thank you for advantance
How could anyone not like this video?
Haha it’s ok! Thanks ever so much
I didn’t say I disliked the video.
Warren is an outstanding engineer & music educator.
My comment concerns the amount of time spent on drum processing in a “MIX” video.
I’ve observed this in many mix videos & don’t understand what is so difficult about creating a drum track.
How many times must you hear about putting an 1176 on drums before you understand the procedure?
Logic has simplified it even more with “Drummer”.
Is what you are doing on the snare gonna also sound good when he turns the snare off?
Bruce Vanderkooi fantastic question! We can talk about it next time we open it up!
Was that Cymbal reflection on the floor or on a stand as that mic with the salt shaker is almost perfect?!?!?! Im guessing it was placed somewhere in the middle of the kit above the kick under the toms sort of thing maybe???
Yes! Exactly! Well spotted
Как все просто объяснено, чего не объясняют в российском ютубе! Спасибо Warren!
👉huge fan👈..I've probably watched 100 of your vids this last month...just burnt my first mix to a cd and listened to it on the way to work.....it was pretty awful ....but I'm learning Damn it.
Thanks for the vids 👍
Where are you positioning the kick out mic?
Does anybody know the link to the next session of this mix? Is it on UA-cam?
"I ain't got time to bleed" - Predator ;)
James McGauran haha indeed
Only time I use 'top down' method is when I use a tape saturator/simulator to bring out some vibey harmonics to a drum bus, GTR bus etc or a bus compressor like a PIE or a slate compressor. But NEVER eq across the board. Yuck.
should have watched this before I bought my tambourine... damn
I sat through like five minutes of the chat where people were naming their favorite drummers and not one person mentioned Jimmy Chamberlain? For shame!
The more I watch mixing tutorials it feel like it just boils down to leveling sound placement and effects and that it
And of course creativity
I spy with my little eye...a Red Special.👍
Warren, you're on 444! Best, Krešo ;-)
Krešimir Bikić fantastic! Thanks ever so much my friend!
444?
Padre, it's almost "666". Now is at 616... Hehehe... ;-)
Krešimir Bikić
😇 May God Bless You Always, My Son! 😇
Reverend Eslam, you ARE the man!
Styx Renegade drums
Audrey Sims very nice!
start of mixing: around 4:44
It sounds so good at the source that it's almost useless to watch. I'm kidding, thanks a lot!
Thanks ever so much!
Mixing DRUMS from scratch would have been a better title
Where’s part 2?
FAV DRUM SOUND: BLOOD SUGAR SEX MAGIC 1991 and
MOST OF BLACK CROWS ALBUMS FOR A %100 NATURAL DRUM SOUND
hi warren
Hello
Uwe Baganz hello!
Clem Burke
Please do a midi drum mix which sound like this or more natural thanks. BTW i am a subscriber to your channel and follow you on fb.
my god 18 dislikes? I don't see why
John Petraskie haha it’s ok! It shows we are doing something right!
Idk...and maybe it’s just me, but these plug ins with its zillions of adjustments are just too much and too extra. I’m simple and to the point when creating an artistic expression but the tech used to micro adjust an expression (a sound in a voice for a song), for me, is pointless, excessive, time wasting and insane. Imma stick to my video editing and graphic design. I was seeking tidbits for simple musical/sound incorporating.
I understand the beat of a song is important. -But - To me, Drums are the most simplistic part of a mix. Why is 95% of a mixing video spent on explaining the same mundane drum concepts over & over & over?? A mix contains an orchestral arrangement with instruments & vocals that require much more attention & skills than 4 drums.
I’m assuming you’re new to the channel? We have 100’s of mixing videos and the most successful videos for instance are on Vocals.
There's something horribly wrong with the sound of the snare it sounds like you forgot to engage the chain
