  • Metallica and Rammstein are big. That’s how far the similarity goes. Except one more thing.

Rammstein has never had a single lineup change. They were friends before they became Rammstein. Richard Kruspe even has a daughter with Till Lindemann’s ex wife. She actually carries Lindemann’s last name. Those two are like boyfriends. They’re inseparable. The chemistry that exists between them and love that they have for each other has helped them remain themselves and take over the World. They don’t have a single bad record IMO. They are one of the most unique, solid, and incredible live bands on Earth.

James naturally has a higher voice than Till, so it sounded a lot more unusual when Metallica went to drop C tuning. I feel like Till’s deeper voice was able to hide the fact that they were tuning down a bit. That and Rammstein’s music is very simplistic most of the time. Simplistic, yet heavy power chord riffs. When Metallica went from more complex riffs to simplistic, down tuned arrangements, it came off weird because they never did that before. Rammstein has always kept their simplistic, heavy sound, so tuning down didn’t really strike anyone’s ears as sounding unusual.

Rosenrot & Reise Reise don’t even sound that low and they’re both in Drop C. When Metallica did it, it just didn’t work IMO

Metallica's Saint Anger didn't work because:
    >1 - Hetfield's voice is too high for such downtunes.
    >2 - Metallica is instrumentally complex. Going more simplistic felt like dumbing down.
On the other hand, I've always seem Rammstein as the Nirvana of heavy metal: Simple, catchy, effective, and followed by a culture; Grunge in the former, Industrial in the latter. As such, there isn't really much to change, and anything works!
    Love both bands! 🤟

To be fair St. Anger was also done in a drastically different style than both the classic albums and the 90’s albums. I think Rammstein always sounds like Rammstein, even through the changes.

Rammstein is a band other bands can look up to as a kind of group dynamic, they're all doing what they like and what they do great, they listen to each other, sure they can make silly songs and silly lyrics but that is just part of what they all are as a band.

Disposable Heroes and One have phenomenal anti war lyrics and no Rammstein song I can think of has better lyrics of a similar subject. Just because the subjects of rape, necrophilia and cannablism are shocking and controversial doesn't mean they make the best lyrics. Metallica has plenty of equally good and better lyric themes in their songs. And they've mentioned rape in their song Broken, Beat & Scarred and a few of their covers have very controversial lyrics/themes (So What, Last Caress, Die Die My Darling)
