  • Chapman made three saves in four save opportunities in the 2016 National League Division Series against the San Francisco Giants to set new Division Series records for each.
Chapman made four appearances during the 2016 National League Championship Series (NLCS) against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Chapman blew a save opportunity during the first game of the NLCS. However, the Cubs rallied back and Chapman remained in the game to earn the winning decision. He pitched during the final two innings in Game 6 to secure the Cubs first pennant since 1945.
Chapman's workload in the 2016 World Series escalated with the Cubs facing elimination at the hands of the Cleveland Indians. Down 3-1 in the series, Chapman pitched through the seventh, eight, and ninth innings of Game 5, allowing only one hit and preserving the Cubs' 3-2 lead. He was called upon again in the ninth inning of Game 6, where he allowed one hit and one run en route to 7-3 victory. Chapman appeared the subsequent day to close out Game 7 with a 6-3 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning. However, he blew the save opportunity and allowed Cleveland to tie the game. Chapman prevented Cleveland from scoring additional runs in the ninth inning. The Cubs tallied the game-winning run in the 10th inning, making Chapman game's winning pitcher.

Aroldis coming back out and not giving up the World Series in the 9th inning tells me EVERYTHING I need to know about who he is as a competitor. Total stud. Don't care if he gave up the lead in the 8th. Stud.

After he had that perfect 9th, I knew we'd win. Total competitor for us especially with how he was used

He may be a Yankee at heart, but I will never forget what he did for the Cubs in 2016. Thank you Aroldis.

Think what you will about him as a person, but the Cubs don't win the World Series without him. Their one weakness was not having that dominate arm in the bullpen and Theo/Jed went out and delivered. He cost a lot, but in the end he was well worth the price.

The pitch sequence at 13:50 is a perfect example of how you get by with a 2-pitch repertoire. Granted, his fastball is one of the best weapons in the game, but still. And 1st pitch slider at the knees when you can hurl 103? Nasty.

As long as mlboa coaching imposters make batter swing with lead arm dominating the swing then pitchers will still be dominating batters even though the pitchers are get butchered more now than at any other time in baseball history and the batters will just come and go like pennies in a fountain. A dime a dozen and the owners keep getting their tv dollars..
