  • This is a full video of the Alice in Wonderland dark ride filmed by me on May 10, 2024. Today is the 10th anniversary of the 2014-current version of this ride, as it opened on July 4, 2014. Happy 10th birthday to what I consider to be one of the much better refurbs at Disneyland in the last 30 years. Second to Peter Pan's Flight as my favorite of the 5 bus bar Fantasyland dark rides. There are so many great things to see & hear in this 3 minute ride. Many classic scenes & characters from the 1951 Walt Disney adaption of the 1865 Lewis Carroll story, are represented in great detail and sometimes full audio animatronics. The dreamlike realm of Wonderland lends itself to the most colorful of all of the Fantasyland dark rides (Not counting it's a small world). It may be relatively quick, (Compared to E Tickets like small world, Pirates, & Haunted Mansion), but it remains one of my favorite rides because of the amazing storytelling and immersive scenes, especially considering the limited pace and space the Imagineers had to work with. This is technically one of Disneyland's oldest rides, opening 3 years after the park in 1958. It did see many changes in the major 1982-84 refurbishment, as well as some more in the 2014 refurb, but retains the charm of the movie and original ride. The original ride (1958-82) was a bit strange by today's standards, with more cutouts and less 3D characters & sets, a little like Mr. Toad's Wild Ride still is today. The original version also had less soundproofing with audio that was largely ripped from the film. This was changed in the major 1982-84 refurb, which rebuilt most of the ride into something more like the one I filmed here. With the exception of the removal of the Upside Down Room, I think the rest of the ride was definitely improved in that refurb. All of the current major scenes have largely been intact since April 1984, including most of today's physical props & set pieces. For example, the whole Queen of Hearts scene wasn't even there beforehand, and the Mad Tea Party scene was moved to a new location after the outdoor Vine section, where previously a simple U-Turn marked the end of the ride. Speaking of the Vine, besides the U-Turn going the other way, the original version of that part (Besides the paint) did last for many years after 1984, that is until 2010 when Disneyland voluntarily added a horrible "quick fix", which was basically a giant, unthemed box that literally covered the old Vine, except when you were on the ride itself, you could clearly see the old Vine on top of the box. They said it was due to California safety regulations, which is true, but they weren't forced to change it or make it look so ugly either. That atrocity of an otherwise beautiful attraction lasted almost 4 years, until the 2014 refurbishment, the biggest since 1984. That refurb largely resulted in many charming projections that surprisingly work rather well with the existing physical sets (I'm usually not a huge fan of many screen based rides). Sadly, when I filmed this, many projections were relatively dim and in need of repair. This has been the case since mid 2023 and I'm saddened that it has taken this long. In 2014, they also added a couple new 3D Alice figures in the Tulgey Wood & Tea Party scenes, as well as finally fixing the vine (Although it still doesn't look as good as the 1958-2010 version, and I honestly wish they could have settled between a hybrid of the two). This really is an amazing ride and one of the better ones in Disneyland. I'm quite happy with this video as it's the best quality one I currently have of this attraction. The Tweedles, White Rabbit, Golden Afternoon, smoking Caterpillar, Tulgey Wood, the Queen of Hearts Rose Garden, Croquet Game and Trial are alli presented in vivid, slightly edited color. Then we go down the "vine", followed by a brief interior where the Mad Hatter and March Hare host their Unbirthday Party for us and Alice. The cards were not marching the day I filmed this, but thankfully I can confirm they were fixed the following day. I hope you enjoy this classic ride!
I do not own any audio used in this video. All audio is owned by Disney. Videos taken by me, feel free to use in your own content if you wish.

A few affects seem to be either broken or not functioning correctly, such as the Live Flowers and Card Soldiers, as well as the PSI being turned up higher than usual. Hopefully they fix that soon.

I hope they fix it too. Although the cards were only broken on this day. I went on it again the following day and they were working, and they were also working when I went in June. The other things still need to be fixed though
