  • This is a full Walk through of the dioramas inside Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland, filmed during my most recent trip on June 2, 2024. This video is longer and better quality than my last one, giving a clear look at the experience. This classic walk through has been around almost as long as Disneyland itself. In the construction of Disneyland over one year between July 1954 & July 1955, Sleeping Beauty Castle was built as the park's forever primary landmark. While the structure was the same as it is now, except for a less vibrant color scheme, due to the construction time as well as Disneyland going over budget, despite there being this space there wasn't anything inside the upper portion of the Castle for almost two years after Disneyland opened. This sort of bothered Walt Disney who wanted to use whatever space was available to him. He assigned his Imagineers with creating the original version of this walk thru which opened April 29, 1957. That version, like today's, featured dioramas depicting scenes from the Walt Disney animated film version that were in the original art style of Eyvind Earle, the primary artist of the film. They were mostly detailed blacklit plywood flats vaguely reminiscent of some in the original Fantasyland dark rides. There were also 3D versions of Maleficent's goons that looked crude by today's standards. Until attraction tickets were removed in 1982, this walk thru only required an A Ticket to get in. The 1957 version lasted until 1977 when the original dioramas were replaced with 3 dimensional ones with doll characters. While certainly more detailed, they weren't in the Eyvind Earle art style. The 1977-2001 version had a similar, but not identical soundtrack to the 1957-77 version with the original masters. The original version had narration which was removed in 1977. That version lasted until October 2001 when it closed for security reasons following the terrorist attacks of September 11. After that, the space was not utilized for over 7 years, & for a few years it seemed skeptical it would reopen. But in Summer 2008, it was announced that a new version would open that Fall. It did on November 26, 2008, and it is the version that I filmed here. The 2008-present version was designed by Disney Legend Tony Baxter. This version does a fantastic job bringing back the original art style while adding great digital effects that add more depth to the experience. Some of the 1957 audio remains although some tracks are different, and it's all been remastered. I personally love this walk thru and the way it tells Sleeping Beauty. I am really glad I got this great video of the Castle walk thru. I hope you enjoy my video!
I do not own any music used in this video. All music is owned by Disney. Video taken by me. Feel free to use it in your content if you wish.

Why did the audio get remastered? Is it because the originals were lost? Also were the dioramas brought back or are they replicas to the original?

I have only been to WDW and never seen the other castle at Disney Land. How cool is that?

I haven't been to WDW but I might finally get to go soon. Cinderella's is definitely much bigger, but both Castles are gorgeous in their own way. Cinderella's Royal Table looks very nice but this walk thru is a wonderful & underrated experience that Magic Kingdom lacks, not to mention that unlike the expensive fine dining this is an experience that anyone who comes to Disneyland can easily experience. Even for people who cannot climb stairs, an accessible experience has been located inside the Castle since the 2008 refurb.

I loved doing it, but I always hated the part where you look through the door holes and they’d pop out from the the thing, I always hated it
