I’ve always been an M4A1-S loyalist to begin with throughout the entire game. So this changes nothing for me except that I can pick up the cooler looking M4A1’s off of my dead teammates.

I hate that the community is so resistant to changing the AK/M4 dynamic that's been there for 20 years, but what I honestly hate more is that Valve actually caves and doesn't stick to their guns (no pun intended).
Counter-Strike would not be ruined if the SG553 or the AUG are popular choices. The AK and M4 are not the "height of honorable skill" or whatever and they were never unviable anyway. Options are good!
@@QuintessentialWalrus Thing is valve can't control how people play the game without risking to break the whole balancing-ecosystem. Technically the Aug and SG553 have their place in the game. Especially the 100 Headshot-Damage on close range makes the AUG a viable choice when holding certain angles. But people just like to stick to things they are familiar with. They would have to make the AUG and SG so good that it would be stupid to use anything else. And that would be a change just for the sake of change, not to enhance the experience.

For reals, a lot of my mates who played csgo for 500+hours never heard the m4a1s unsilenced sound until i made the mistake of removing it and everyone went like wtf is that gun my games glitched?! Mine too!
Also without a suppressor it's the most accurate rifle while running so you can do some nice running headshots.

You're joking but spaming smokes is 10x better with a silencer than without one
People really underestimate the thing that in cs go you really rely on sounds in environments quite a lot, silenced weapons are quite good because of that, allowing you to not get noticed or give away your position to the enemy team, that would otherwise just track and shoot you down

@@blest5132 the Galil is a discount ak in all the right ways, also ive found in my own experience that its better to use on the second round over the ak because it actually does more base damage than the ak does, so its easy kills against the player who didnt buy armor on second round to save money which is a lot of the time the whole enemy team

That's what they MUST do for sg553. It's unacceptable for a riffle to have a firerate lower than 600
or maybe have better running accuracy, which could make a difference between m4a1-s for more passive holds and m4a4 for more aggressive ct players

this is the way imo. In order to have the same ttk the m4a4 now needs to fire at exactly 800 rpm, but 780 or something would still be fair.

The suppressor adds weight to the front of the gun, making it more difficult to balance while moving, therefore reducing accuracy. This is the only rationale that I can devise.
Hahaha nice observation? Its actually because back in the day valve nerfed running accuracy for all guns including the m4a1-s but valve forgot to nerf the version without the suppressor.

Gotta love it when you get skin for gun that gets buffed in half a year for lot cheaper than it sells now. Got hot rod around last spring for 100 euros and it sells for 200+ euros now.

Hell, half the pros react that way too. Pro players for every FPS seem to have this weird obsession with winning "honorably" rather than doing whatever it takes to win. I think the FGC mentality makes a lot more sense when money is on the line: if a gun is OP, use it!

@@surinaam1186 What I'm getting at is a matter of perspective. CS players, even some of the very best, have always complained when the M4 wasn't the best CT rifle. But why should it be? It's no more or less worthy of being the most popular gun than any others are. The idea that overpowered M4 and AK is good, while overpowered anything else is bad, is a fallacy IMO.
And before someone says "but the M4 wasn't overpowered," this is relative to other CT guns. It might be more accurate to say all the other CT guns are underpowered, but the M4's pick rate was overwhelmingly high. And I say, why should we want that? Why is that good?
@@QuintessentialWalrus I assume when you say M4 you are referring to the M4A4? The silenced M4 was viable even before the buff, and the decision between the two mostly came down to preference. I just don't see why one of them is now statistically superior in every aspect, while also being much easier to use and master.
If you're talking more broadly about every gun in the game, the M4 and AK have always been the "signature" guns that everyone recognizes. I think valve and most of the player base want to preserve that. Most other guns have situational strengths to them over the AK or M4, which I feel makes for a decent balance. I think the biggest issue is valves way of implementing changes that suddenly swing a guns usefulness from 0 to 100, instead of doing smaller buffs to even the playing field
Hi Philip,
there is one glaring omission from this video: Tagging.
The faster succession of shots does - in theory, but also the way it feels in game - slow down enemies much more than the mere 10 bullets per second for the M4A1-S.
You can shoot an enemy down to a crawl with the M4A4 and it makes it much harder for him to "escape" your spray compared to the M4A1-S (either because he moves behind cover or because your aim sucks too much to trace an enemy).
I'd also like to add that the differences between the weapons become less pronounced if the enemy is hurt, with the M4A4 arguably having the edge against low hp players if it's one shot either way.
I still always preferred the M4A1-S since the mag increase, since smoke-banging is a lot more secure.
Also, with the buff, its wall penetration is now increased massively and the "4-shot-kill-guarantee" - exactly like the AK - makes it feel super OP in practice.

I think it's counterintuitive that the m4a4 does less dmg to the chest than it does to the legs. ( I know its because the chest is protected by armor but still)
And how about SMGs

That's way SMG are so powerful in newbies hands. They can shoot heads due they always aiming to the floor
all guns deal more damage to the legs than to the chest (if player is armoured and/or depends on the gun)
@@-Kozloff this is only true for weapons with 75% armor penetration or less. A shot in the legs always mulitplies the base damage by 0.75 (leg mulitplier, no armor pen involved) while a shot in the chest is multiplied with the armor pen. Is the armor pen higher than 75% you deal more damage to the chest than legs.

I was a huge fan of M4A1-S since I started playing in 2014. I've collected lots of cool skins for M4A1-S as time went by, like the Welcome to The Jungle, Nitro with a Titan Holo, and Hot-Rod with 2 Crowns. And now when Valve buffed the M4A1-S, its a pure miracle for me when I play. And huge stonks if I'm gonna sell skins

I never swapped to a4 ever only used it when dropped by others used a1-s since 2015 and always loved it no matter the changes glad to see some sort of buff for it though.
don't know if it's already been commented but there's a reason removing the m4a1 silencer slightly improves spray accuracy when running, for the same reason that if you hold a big stick and swing it about it's harder to control how it moves if you hold the end compared to the centre. silencers aren't very heavy but they're long, and the amount of force that an object tied to a fixed point (i.e. held at its grip) receives as it gets pushed around that fixed point (i.e. points away from the crosshair when the gun is fired) is increased if the length of the end of the object from the fixed point is increased, hence a gun with an extra bit that sticks out is harder to stabilise

Since I started playing I've always used the m4a1-s. I just prefered the look and sound of it and now seeing these stats I hope others will join me in using the superior CT side rifle
Personally, I think that an increase in rate of fire with a slight damage increase would have been more desirable. You can get higher DPS that before, but you have to be careful not to run out of bullets. In the current state, valve has to nerf it a bit, or improve the M4A4 if they want both to be played

Great video Philip, but you forgot to take into account the damage multiplier for the skin you are using. It's well known the flashier the skin, the higher the multiplier.
But seriously, I wonder how much already bought skins factor in how likely people are to change to the m4a1s.
I always liked the AUG, SG and the M4A1-S... I always gets a bit sad when they buff these guns, because it means they are going to catch on to the mainstream and eventually be nerfed. And when they do, they always end up being a bit worse than they used to be.

So I put this in my watch later when it came out, I’m very interested to hear this, because I’ve just always used the M4A1’s in fact my first year of the game I didn’t know that the M4A4 existed as a different gun. Anyway after years I just this month switched to the M4A4 I wanted a little change and for my shots to sound more powerful I guess. So I just got a decent skin for it with a stat track and some stickers to start fresh with this gun. But if this video tells me something interesting I might quickly switch back.
I still feel bad for the silvers that are like "SG553 is still the meta" even though it's been more than a year since it had its stats nerfed like czauto
For the sake of the video I'm 100% sure that m4a1 users will be much more than it used to be since the dps is much higher and it's more accurate only 5 less bullets and 100 reserve ammo I don't see a reason why I wouldn't be switching to m4a1

The current Krieg meta is to use as a T to get some long range fights, and never entry fragger. Like long D2, after get the control, a krieg is awesome to hold the C4 afterplant

Always loved the m4a1s, even during the period where it had 60 bullets total.
it was pretty op back then, accuracy was like a laser beam and you had the high 667 RPM firerate. Not a guaranteed 4 bullet kill tho, so the current M4A1-S is maybe even more powerful than the old one, but if you sprayed someone in the stommach back then he was dead in a blink of an eye.

More recently I've found myself dealing much more damage and hitting shots WAAAY more consistently with the M4A1-S than the M4A4. Both are "fine" though.
Its cause with the a1s you barely have to aim and compensate for recoil. Gun does that for you. 4 shots kill at ANY range

You forgot to mention that the m4a4 is faster to kill with headshots tho, and my HS accuracy seems to be about 50-60+ every game so I feel the pain when I hit a headshot with the silencer and then the AK 1 taps me
Yes, if you hit an hs with the 1st-4th bullet, m4 is a (marginally) faster kill, so there’s still kind of a case for using it, but most of the pros have switched because of the econ aspect + damage buff. I really don’t understand how they can justify the continued lower price for the a1s now that damage is buffed - if they put the price back where it was, we might see more of a mix being used, which is surely what you actually want?

Best case scenario: m4a4 ttk is 90ms vs 100ms for m4a1, 10ms advantage
Worst case scenario: m4a4 ttk is 450ms (6 shots) vs 300ms (4 shots) for m4a1, 150ms disadvantage
@@Summer-xu8qu actually "best case" scenario for m4 is 4 shots with one hs (270 ms vs 300ms). 180ms vs 200ms for 3-shot kill with one hs also not insignificant. If body shots exclusively, then more often than not, it'll be a worst-case 60ms disadvantage, just because of normal engagement distance around the maps in the pool. But obviously this is too big to ignore for the cheesy body spam! Btw I'm not saying you should use the m4 now - I have switched to a1s myself, because I'm bad at aiming and it's clearly better for me and a bit cheaper to boot, but there's still a marginal case for using the m4, especially if you have a high hs% / burst hs% with m4
Came back to the game after a while and now I tend to use the A1, but sometimes I'll use the M4, like Cache since I always end up playing Mid and it's nice to have the extra fire rate, and I like the recoil more for some reason

My take on this is: If you are aiming at the head and hedshotting your opponents with these guns and then following up with a spray to fully kill them, the time to kill is near identical. sure it takes more hits with an m4a4 to kill but who only hits the body?

Watch this at 4:04. This is the reason that m4a1-s is the superior weapon no matter the mag size or the price. And the game will still keep being ct-sided on most maps even though they changed ancient a lot. 0.3 secs to kill by body shots is equal to the ak-47's time to kill. This takes the gun advantage from terrorists yet the game designed in the way that until the bomb is planted, counter terrorists are in advantage. The gun advantage of terrorists makes this game balanced as in very few maps ct's are in weaker angles. Mark my words, there will be another m4a1 nerf. For better or worse, Im just talking numbers I don't really care if one side is better or not.

@@lambda2657 True lol, I snatched a fn cyrex for almost 9$ cheaper. Again maybe not this year but next year we might get another nerf that makes both guns viable, and t side a bit stronger. Im considering like lowering the rpm of a1 slightly or flipping the prices of guns so that they make sense.

They really shouldn’t have nerfed the AUG and SSG553 so hard after they got more popular. It was some nice variety and I liked when the scoped weapons were better because the scope helps me see.

Those weapons are good, for their price. But what they did is made you choose m4+decoy or Much More Superior AUG (MMS-AUG). That is not okay. You will choose aug everytime, and m4 only when you're $50 short. Which is not fine at all.

You know what, even with the m4a1 buff, I still think it’s whatever gun you can control recoil with. If you’ve used the m4a4 for years, there isn’t much point in switching

I was using the M4A4 for 6 years and now dominate all my CT-sides with the buffed M4A1. Even if you only have the basic skill of controling a spray (pullling down and not bothering with the left and right corrections) then it will be better.
But the time to kill of the M4S is now better than m4a4 which is why pros are using it in competitive match now. Also the recoil is easier to control so u can more likely hit the enemy

I've been using the A1-S since the game came out. You merely adopted the A1-S, I was born with it, moulded by it.
I haven't played CS in 4 years but I still watch all of your videos...
I've noticed this in my games recently I've been picking it up more because it feels like a powerful laser beam the past few days.
I would love to see(may be temporary) game mode of super realism. Meaning all shots can end you in 1-2 hits. Certain ammo cannot get past vests, but will knock you down & wind/stun you. Hits to non vital parts deal a certain large initial damage, and then damage over time until patched up.
I know realism isn't fun for all, but I like it every now & then, and it's been a while since I've seen a game do it(recommend if there are any)
You could buy different rated vest.
Unrelated, but bring back gibbing like in HL1 CS & TFC

Hear me out we old players back in the days used to play silenced m4 not unsilenced m4 (M4A4) but seeing m4a1 coming back from 9 years of its grave is pretty weird cuz im sure most peps used to play m4a4 and never really care about m4a1s to much
